I think the big issue here is the difference between religion and God. I’ve only read a little bit of early Marx, but he definitely seems to be of the opinion that humans make gods after themselves which don’t have an actual existence. A little above the opium quote you mentioned Marx says that man “looked for a superhuman being in the fantastic reality of heaven and found nothing there but a reflection of himself…” Either way, thank you for the video. I’d love if you did more Marx content in the future.

Great point. And yes, Marx definitely lives within the left wing Hegelian critique of religion, ie, Feuerbach. Thanks for watching!

I'm currently reading the book "The Gospel of J. Edgar Hoover", in which Hoover and other Christian conservatives were adamantly opposed to "communism" because of its supposed atheistic association. I know the "communism" of the USSR was nothing like what Marx predicted would occur during his lifetime. But I was wondering just how opposed Marx was to religion. This talk greatly clears that up for me, so thanks. As an atheist who listens to Christian radio, I often hear politics. Listeners are strongly encouraged to vote, and that Democrats are evil, socialist, Marxist, communist baby murderers. I'm not opposed to religion; I am opposed to religion being used to manipulate the masses for the benefit of a few. I think Karl Marx would have agreed.
