We are a family of 4 that are striving to be more minimal. I agree that we can't live with just one coffee cup, but with finding minimalism it has made me get rid of a ton of cups we didn't use. I love that you are spreading this message. For us minimalism has been a snow ball effect, we are now eating healthier and we are no longer using fast fashion and we are now looking into a way to make less waste. I guess this one change towards minimalism has made me look into everything and question why we were doing things a certain way and question is there a better way? A lot of people Don`t understand, but that's ok. Great videos 👍

I always had this silly preoccupation I minimized all my stuff at the beginning of 2017, and at the end of it my house does not look like a "minimalist house", I always thought "maybe I am doing it wrong", but when I tried to minimize more I realized that I actually like and use the remaining stuff, I don't need less stuff, I am fine, and this video is so great because it confirms what I was already learning, minimalism is a personal thing my minimalism looks different and that's fine. You might not see right away that I’m a minimalist but everything in my home has a place and a reason and I don’t bring anything new in unless I have thought it through. I have used this lens to focus on the important parts of the family legacy and let go of the superfluous. I have move the family into the future with the best of the past but not weighed down by the past.

minimalism works with people as well. rid of those who are negative, or bring you down or just aren’t trying to better you or themselves. as harsh as it may sound sometimes people are the ones who are weighing us down at the end of the day. not to be that cliche guy but life is too short. surround yourself with loving, caring people. not everything is about materialistic things.. love people and use things. don’t love things and use people.

In my attempt to do the things I truly wanted to do in this life and live the way I really wanted to live I found that minimalism was necessary. I kept getting rid of more stuff to make the space for my dreams. My family went from a 2500sq’ packed house to downsizing by 90% and moving into a 30’ 5th wheel to travel. We love it💗. And now I make videos about minimalism too which was totally unplanned and unexpected but I guess because it had such an enormous effect on my life I want to share that!

Great video! I used "things" to fill a void in my life. The act of clearing those "things" allowed me to determine what's really a priority. I collected over 20 pairs of jordans at one point. I woke up one day, looked at my closet and saw that I hadn't even worn half of them. What was the point? Did I benefit from them? No. I ended up selling all but 2 and now I can truly focus my money on what matters. Family, education and experiences. Ignore the trends, fill the void with self-improvement and meaningful relationships.

Like the picture of „lenses“. For me this is also a core of minimalism. You can have comparable more stuff and still be minimalist, but you can also have very little stuff and still be a maximalist in terms of consumption or intentionality.
@z0ara16 жыл бұрын
Well said. I've been stuck following my sister and mom's step, buying all of the stuff that I thought I want and need. Mostly because I'm switching from a tomboy to a feminine. Although I do enjoy the adventure of exploring my style and sense of fashion, I begin to realize that it doesn't fit my personality in the end. Now I try to calm myself by only buying 1 or 2 things that I want every month. Minimalism makes me realize how cluttered my life and how ineffective it is. And minimalism is also the ones that helps me understand my personality more. So yes, it is a tool. It was never a competition for me. Because luckily, I never really care about what people say. I only do what works for me.

Who can resist such a clickable thumbnail?! I think you brought up a really good distinction that separates rational minimalists from radial minimalists--a rational minimalist says that if the 10 cups in your cupboard aren't getting in the way of or distracting you from your goals/mission, then you don't need to get rid of them. Whereas a radical minimalist would say that if those 10 glasses aren't directly instrumental in achieving those goals, then you SHOULD get rid of them. I tend toward radical minimalism, but that doesn't mean that rational minimalists aren't "real minimalists"--you guys are what keep us crazies grounded :)

Totally agree! Here's the problem....animals! We have three cats. Two are outside and inside. One stays in all the time. My husband and I are at the time in our lives that we can and want to travel, but we can't take three cats! We have wood floors and cats shed, etc. I spend so much time cleaning hair up everyday and sometimes kitties throwup(ugh), that time could be spent on reading, gardening, etc. oh what to do! I'm sure this may sound stupid to some, but I guess I created my problem!
@aongaro6 жыл бұрын
We felt similarly when we got our dog Rocky, but since we just have one and he's a little guy, we think we can start traveling a bit more with him. Pets can make a bit more challenging to travel, but they are worth it (in my opinion!). Perhaps a good friend or family member may be able to swing by the house and take care of the kitties when you guys want to travel.

@aongaro6 жыл бұрын
Sentimental items are definitely tough. I find that things like that can get easier with time, as you declutter other things that don't have as much emotional pull. So maybe you can put them away for now and re-look at them later. If they aren't getting in the way of doing more of what matters for you, there's not a need to get rid of it either.
@Louisyed6 жыл бұрын
Break the Twitch Sensible suggestion. I think where they get in the way is when I think about moving... I live on my own currently but would possibly like to move and have housemates again, which would allow me to save money to use for travelling instead and possibly address my current social isolation (i.e. help me do more of what matters to me!) What stops me is not knowing what do with all of my stuff or where to begin! Which is a silly reason, but still difficult to address.
