I've minimalised my friends; limit to 7 close friends. I've found myself attending birthdays, get together, other occasions/celebrations, every week. It's too chaotic and a lot of money spent. I've minimalised my projects; limit to only 1 project at a time until I finish it and then move on. I found myself saying "yes" too often to new projects or hobbies. Which takes a lot of time. I don't take on new projects until I'm finish with the current project. And I don't get into new hobbies until I feel I am really bored with my current hobby. I've minimalised my online activity. I've minimalised my pets; Kept my dog (gold fish and birds found a new home) I've minimalised my exercise. I've minimalised my diet. I've minimalised what I grown in my garden. I've minimalised what I read; no more time management, personal development, or topic that has been bashed to death. In the end, I've focused more on the quality rather than the quantity.

That is such a brilliant point about conferences. I've been to a few myself and it's so true. I've even done it myself. Thanks for the thought-provoking ideas!

Hi Anthony, thanks for replying! I was so excited with your reply that I even mentioned about you and your comment on a podcast I run! Much gratitude! Things are going great. Thankfully, I survived the earthquakes and I'm enjoying my life to the fullest extent. Perhaps, it's near death experiences like that, which remind you that you only have finite numbers to live. I'd love for you to come over. We could hang out and I'd show you around! Hugs from Nepal! :)

Sagar Satyal I did declutter my subscription in KZbin too, eliminate those who actually more show off their clean and luxury big house rather than really declutter. It really doesn't have things to declutter in some video.

Such insight. I love your channel because you make me question the "why?" of what I do. Although I've been on a minimalist journey for a few years, I always come away from your posts with new ideas and ways of looking at my life. Thanks

Such a smart consideration. Will definitely keep this in mind whenever I go to a conference or event. And not only do we have an opportunity to leverage one another's experience and niche wisdom, there is always the opportunity for human connection. I have made great friends while standing line line for things. You would never imagine it, but taking the time to talk to someone next to you can yield great stories and great friendship. We undervalue human connection in our day to day life.

thank you for this video. i really think we need to come together and explore our connections with each other in real life more. social media seems like it's preventing people from having those real genuine connections anymore.

It's also very easy to ignore the people sitting next to us because of our electronic devices. Besides mobile devices allowing us to person-to-person communication with people around us, they also emit electromagnetic radiation which is an energetic form of clutter/pollution, harming our own health and our neighbors' whether or not they realize it. I think this concept will be the next big trend in minimalism as more people realize that wireless creates a whole different mess, albeit an invisible one.

Hey there! I'm glad you found me, thank you for taking the time to watch and say hello - I really do appreciate it. What got you interested in minimalism?
@tuulabird8 жыл бұрын
+Break the Twitch When I was growing up I loved to rearrange my room, furniture pictures, the whole works. It was until recently that I connected that behaviour with a feeling of dissatisfaction of my things. I realized that I would never be content reorganizing if I felt weighed down by the stuff around me. A family mentioned the Marie Kondo book and I was eventually given a copy. I read it cover to cover in a short amount of time. I then went to work and what she explains takes up to six months took me three weeks. It felt amazing and I felt better about my space. now seven months later I had the urge to rearrange my room as I had before. I knew I needed to reevaluate my priorities. I searched videos on KZbin and spent hours learning about this foreign concept of minimalism. It was brilliant. Everything I thought as a child began to make sense because I had the applicable vocabulary and thoughts just made sense now. I am so much happier now that I can articulate how I feel and think. Thank you for asking. I realize that was long winded but it's the first time anyone has asked and my heart is full.

Minimalism as training ourselves to think outside the box, and look at something in the way that it best serves us, or applies to us, or how we can get the most out of it (instead of how it's 'supposed') to work is such a perfect idea. It's like the whole 'life hacks' thing but applying it to experiences.

interesting thought! i think decluttering the "online-life", mindsets and "people you don't have a good time with" is much more important than decluttering physical things.

Pleased to meet you 🙋♀️. This sounds good I just can’t declutter I hold on to everything I will get rid in a small way and not very often the more I have the better I feel, then it’s caring for this stuff for example one tea towel becomes 100 tea towels 🙋♀️🇮🇪👍🙏🏻

Already I've cut back a lot of my time on social media; I only ever check it sparingly throughout the week. One thing that helps is knowing that my dad and boyfriend are on the same page with this (sort of lol). I just feel like the people we keep around us need to be like-minded with what we currently value- otherwise, we're just not going to make any progress.
@MyCrownstar8 жыл бұрын
Interesting topic as alwasy. Would love a discussion on how minimalism also spills over into the people you surround yourself with; do minimalist keep the list of friends to a few strong, supportive friends and how has minimalism aided in building the friendship further. Sometimes it appears in today's society that your popularity is determined by how many Instagram/Facebook followers, friends, etc., you have and nothing about the quality of those relationships.
@aongaro8 жыл бұрын
This is a great topic, and one I'll have to really ponder. I think the responses would vary greatly between introverts and extroverts, and truly depend on what one values. Perhaps a large network with lesser depth in connection is preferable to some, and a few truly life-long meaningful friends preferred by others. I'll have to explore this idea, especially as it relates to digital networks like social media. Thank you for the thought-provoking comment!

If my boyfriend does not 'serve' me anymore, do I get rid of him?
@aongaro8 жыл бұрын
Serve is a tricky word and I definitely used it in a particular context in this video. I do believe that a relationship should equal more than the sum of its parts. Each partner gives and receives, almost never in equal, but in fulfilling amounts to each other. What's important to ask is whether you're receiving love in the ways you desire, and whether you're able to give love in a way that works for you. Relationships can always grow, sometimes together, sometimes apart, but if it's stagnant, where the same problems occur without growth or improvement, it might be time to move on. That's the best general relationship advice I can offer. Thank you for taking the time to ask.

I think you have a lot to offer the world and "at least" your videos help me, thank you for that! I think you state excellent points in this video and I don't disagree with any of it, but I fear that some of your viewers might misuse your focus on the "you" as a justification for unhealthy egoism (in terms of f.ex. evironmental issues/global issues).
@aongaro8 жыл бұрын
+Easy Lobster Hey there! Thank you. Can you explain a bit more about the unhealthy egoism/environmental issues? I don't quite understand and I'd love to learn more from your perspective.
@isabellthormann82688 жыл бұрын
the human being is an egoistic animal that has evolved to being concient of its egoism. you use this video to spread the benefits of egoism, and I absolutely dig that, but I fear that people might misuse it as a justification for egoism that (might seem healthy to them but is) unhealthy on a global scale. for example could someone explain that it is ok to eat meat on a personal level, because the impact one has is so small and leaves out the global problem that is the meat-industry (this example lacks a lot of further explanation on the issue, but I hope you get my point)

When I go to a lecture, most people don't want to share their area of expertise, I notice a lot of superficial shallow people and selfish, even hostility sometimes. I have notice, at times, the same attitude from the lecturer when challenged. So it takes some degree of expertise to get useful input from people that you don't know, I am talking about important information, no things that everyone knows.

This used to happen at the creative writing workshops when I was in uni, when we would would have guest Authors come to class everyone would crowd up around the author at the end to get their copy signed and to maybe ask another question. I remember not finding the idea appealing but pushed myself to go up and get my book signed and make one more comment/question at the end of the workshop. Guess what? The author was an assh*le about it lol like a complete jerk!! Haha should have stuck with my first instinct, and declutter the thought that I had to do what everyone else did
