Thank you so much for posting this video. It lifted a ton of weight and pressure off my shoulders. So far I’ve only been seeing videos of one year olds eating adult food, mostly baby led weaning. Big chunky food that I’m just not ready to give my baby nor is he ready to eat those things. He is also a picky eater and eats so little and I was so concerned comparing him to other babies who seem to eat so much more than he does. But it’s nice to see that your baby is eating similar to mine. Still soft foods and smaller portions. Good video :)

So glad that I am not alone when it comes to a picky 1 year old. I am a first time mom and I don’t really have much help and I got so nervous with feeding my baby solids for the first time I held off until 11 months. I was seeing so many baby led weaning videos it was making me question if I was doing a disservice to my baby bc I didn’t start sooner and maybe that’s why she wasn’t liking the solid foods I was bringing to her . she is now 12 months and I was still feeding her purée foods. Jessica Bryant Hey id be glad to help if I can, my little one is 16 months now and she’s eating like a pro. I realized that after a year she just was getting the hang of it a little better. To help my baby transition a little better to table food I started to use those Gerber transitional food stage packs and those really helped ! I started to mix her little Gerber puffs into her purée food and it helped her slow down and mash on food and they melt easily so it didn’t give me as much anxiety to give it to her.So we did that for a while and it really really helped and then I started to give her more Gerber stage food and those biscuits and it all helped her realize how to munch on foods of different texture. And when I started to see that she was ready and eating those foods easily I started introducing her to mash-able table food such as oatmeal,strawberries, bananas , peas and boiled sweet potato I won’t lie , it was a very stressful and anxious time for me lol but I made it through and I know that you will too!

@@kazembe25 I would just keep exposing him to whole fruits and vegetables. My daughter just turned 18 months and finally is starting to eat different textures of food. She now eats banana, peaches, strawberries, broccoli, sweet potatoes, squash. I just had to keep offering it to her and making sure she saw me eating them too. In the meantime, I try to hide fruits and vegetables in her food. I would make zucchini carrot muffins, sweet potato pancakes, strawberry jam on toast, veggie pasta, etc. Also think about working with your pediatrician about getting a referral for pediatric nutritionist or dietitian. Ours gave us a referral for a speech therapist, but by the time we made it around to the appointment my daughters eating habits had improved.

Love this video, thank you so much. And no judgement WHATSOEVER (just from one loving mama to another), cutting her TV time will hugely benefit her development, IQ, physical and mental wellness. Screens are very addictive, even for us adults, and puts the brain into an “inactive” or “passive” mode, where children’s brains need and should be in active mode as much as possible to encourage neurological development. Just writing this for any mama’s reading this and no judgement at all as limiting screen time is something my child can benefit from too and I try to be a better mama everyday. Thanks for a great video!

Screen time is a necessary evil. I'm working from home and screen time is used for 4 hours so that I can work. Kids will live. I know you're trying to be nice and helpful but it is an added weight on already stressed mamas. If it isnt dangerous, dont comment on it.

i found that my 12 month old is MUCH more cooperative if I put grabby foods in front of him and let him play and eat. It is a mess but it helps him eat without stress (which creates a power struggle= crying= poor feeding). I always have a food i feed him with a spoon and a food for him to grab with his hands. He likes to play with his food and its a mess sometimes but Im cleaning so much already I dont notice. You can use a splash mat under her. Maybe that will work? If you notice in the video the baby is distracted by the tablet...so a little distraction helps- not necessarily screen time.

Let me start by saying that EVERY mom is doing great! If you are trying, then you’re an awesome mom. LOVE is what babies need and everything falls into place. I just want to say that packets and pouches have a lot of preservatives and other chemicals. Children become “picky eaters” when they haven’t had a chance to explore their food. Offering children ALL kinds of food and letting them play as they eat gives them the confidence to know how to eat their food. Without this skill children don’t like to try new food because they aren’t sure how to eat it or what it taste like. Imagine yourself in a foreign country eating a meal you have never seen before. You have questions like: how do I eat this? What will it tastes like? Children have these thoughts with everything you give them. Let them explore with their hands and play with their food! I promise it makes all the difference in the world.
@alontrianewton90133 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry, but I don’t completely agree with you. Every child is different just like every adult is different everyone has preferences towards foods regarding texture, taste and smell. No matter what you try to introduce. It’s obvious this mom said she tries everything just like I did. I tried all kinds of food but my son is big on texture as well as taste and he is not picky he has preferences just like I do. Also you can’t start a statement saying Every mom is doing great then turn around and give a lecture about pouches and chemicals and letting baby explore when that is clearly what mom is doing. Instead show more support that she is actually trying and feeding her child as some moms out here feeding their kids fast food everyday and fyi no “food” from the stores in this world is wholesome something is always added and the best way to avoid that is grow your own food which not many parents can do because they don’t have the time or don’t know how.

Don’t worry, lots of kids don’t like meat and rice! My little one doesn’t like that either. She is 13 months and she eats with her hands what we eat but some things she just doesn’t like. It takes up to 15 times for the baby to like something so just keep offering and trying. Lots of her stuff ends up on the floor :)) Maybe just try to let her eat without watching the tablet so that she can play with the food and focus on it. Keep going, they will get there :)

My son is 12 months and he's the same. I am a new mom so him choking scares me so much. I am thickening his purees and putting very small pieces of banana in it. He does great eating puffs and all the types of melts. But I've fed him rice and pasta and he gags and pukes.. how did you get your daughter to eat chopped banana and strawberries?

Thank you so much for this practical and realistic information! I have an 18 mth old nephew who has determined that he will not be consuming solids like the rest of us. lol! One more funny thing, my daughter (who is almost 17) also LOVED Nightmare Before Christmas at that age. I remember trying to put her down at night-almost fully asleep- and if that movie came on she would immediately pop up off my shoulder and turn around. I don't know what it is! LOL

Is Riley picky on how she likes her milk? My little dude just turned one and I’m trying to transition him to drink room temperature or cold milk. He loves his warm milk.

We have similar schedules. My baby loves blueberries mangos bananas and strawberries. We always change it up on the fruits. He is 11 months and he doesn’t like macaronis or any pasta either but he will do fine with a scrambled egg or small pieces of chicken. Sooner or later we all end up learning how to eat...I’ve never met an adult that only eat puréed food. You’re doing great!

My baby is 13 months old and won’t eat anything I give. I’ve always made sure she eats healthy food(though she never eats) I only prepares home made food but I think she doesn’t likes my cooking. Should I buy her pouches or other stuffs from shops and give it a try? I tried shop bought cottage cheese and cheddar cheese but she won’t eat them either also she isn’t teething. What could be the problem? 😞

Hi Kayla. Quick question. You mentioned that your mom blends chicken for your daughter and it turns out pretty like a purée. Could you please let me know what kind of blender your mom used and what other ingredients she put in? Thank you very much!!

I’m glad you made these videos! My daughter had no issues eating anything by the time she turned one. My son on the other hand will be turning one in a few days and he is soo picky!!! It drives me crazy because I’m always afraid he’s not gaining properly. We did bLW but now I have to make some purées just to get him to eat
