Your perseverance, as always, is amazing and inspiring to all of us who love you, "Pastor Doug"! When you told us you fell on your hip, my heart hurt for you! I was so worried that was going to undo all the gains you have made, but I should have known better. You don't give up! This morning, I'm looking up words of encouragement and writing them in a notebook. I plan on using them in my art project idea. Recently, my son and I have been going to art therapy group at the local clinic, and I'm starting to remember how much I used to love drawing and creating and having fun being around other creative folks. I feel inspired to start creating again, even though my abilities have changed. In my 20s, I had a steady hand and excellent eyesight so I did very detailed drawings. I can't do that anymore, but I am pleasantly surprised that I can do better than I thought; it's just different. Mostly it's different because I bring a different emotion to art because of what I've experienced in 40+ years of adulthood. I no longer care what others think, if it makes me happy, it's good enough! Our peer counselors are encouraging us to make artwork to sell at an art gallery in Palm Springs (where the rich folks live! lol). This art gallery ONLY sells works done by folks like us who have mental health challenges but are learning to thrive anyway. I'm hoping my son will be inspired to draw again, too. He's quite good but lacks confidence. I think if he earns money with his talent it will help his self esteem. We sure could use the income! While digging through my art supplies, I found these small, beautiful little mirrors that have bevels or carving around the edges that I bought at an auction @ 20 years ago. My idea is to use them as part of my artwork, and hand-letter these inspiring messages of hope on each one, so that the person looking at it sees their own face and a message like: "This Too Shall Pass", or "Believe You Can and You're Halfway There" (Teddy Roosevelt). I want to make them pretty, and even sparkly so that a person can start their day seeing themselves in a positive light. "Don't Let Anyone Dull Your Sparkle" will definitely be a quote I'm going to use. What do you think? Just collecting all these positive messages are already putting me in a good mood! When I read this quote from Thomas Paine (one of my personal heroes!) I immediately thought of you... “I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ’Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.” - Thomas Paine Thank you, Sir Douglas, for bringing light to others. There was a time I was in such a dark place that Noon on Sunday with the "Bloch-heads" seemed like the only thing I had to look forward to. "You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have" ~ (unknown)

Ah, a fellow hip, hip replacement person! The end goal is what is missing for me. At 20, I injured my hip (years later it was discovered that I actually broke it...no MRIs back then) and drs said to wait til I was older to get a replacement. I lived with pain for 26 years when I said 'enough is enough'. I found a great dr and had a perfect surgery. Recovery was fairly easy and I was back to work in just a bit under 5 weeks. Then, 4 years later, I find out that I have the faulty hip replacement (you might have seen the attorneys' commercials regarding this) and should get it removed so my kidneys don't fail from metal poisoning. Eeps! I was only 50! I didn't want to slowly die of metal poisoning. So, off I went to find a different surgeon to do a revision since I had moved out of state. He botched it quite horribly. He lied to me and said he couldn't understand why I continued to be in pain when he had done the perfect surgery. It wasn't discovered until later when my own PC looked at the x-rays he had looked at and saw that he only used 2 screws to hold the cup in place and had broken one of them while putting it in place. The cup was loose in my hip and it was causing all the pain that kept me unable to walk, I had been using a wheelchair for 4 months. I now faced a 3rd hip surgery. I was devastated. Long story and trying to keep it under a novel length, the 3rd surgery took longer than expected because of the large amount of scar tissue found in the area. My 3rd, new surgeon said his goal was to get me to walk again. He made good on it. However, I am in worse pain than before the original surgery. A lot worse. Because of a 'wonderful' opioid crisis, I am only given Tylenol. They work about as good as M&Ms. (Tons of sarcasm here.) After listening to your video, I see why I have PTSD, anxiety and depression: I have no end goal. Also, I think I shed more than a couple of tears imagining you falling on your new hip!!! I'm off to binge watch more of your videos! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

You’re more than welcome. I’m really sorry surgeries did not work out well. My brothers in chronic pain he convinced the pain doctor to give him methadone which he said has saved his life. I’m not suggesting you do the same but you might want to consult other pain doctors. In the meantime might your end goal be walking with less pain?

If can you email me, douglasbloch@gmail.com I will send you my list of 45 coping strategies that should be of help. If the depression and depersonalization do not go away in a month, I advise that you reach out to a good mental health professional. There are many of them to choose from. You might also look up depersonalization on KZbin. I'm sure there are some good videos about it

i mean, what should doctors say: "owwwwwwwwww its gonna be WEEKS of horrible pain, you will need to relearn standing and walking, and at least a quarter of the patients will have follow-up surgery necessary?" (fictionalized, but you get my point) - nobody would show up for the surgery anymore. :P
