@@CharlieXFBA ... Playing such ridiculous shots a couple of times in an innings is very different than doing it regularly. After bazball has been introduced plz tell me how many centuries has Root scored? After Alistair Cook I really look upto Joe Root and I feel very bad seeing a player of his stature getting out to playing shots like these. When he can play beautiful drives why does he need to sweep ! You should see his innings in the last 6 years.. must watch.. till bazball started off. It's way he is getting out trying to force the runs which he would have otherwise scored much easily and at his comfort.

@@jrudresh1 this time i agree with you... on indian pitches you cannot trust the bounce so its better to play conventional drives here with straight bat... reverse shots can only be played to spinners... root has made a mistake by attempting that to a fast bowler pitches are not good for that shot... ollie pope attempted that on 196 and missed out on a well deserved double hundred... hope this time they learn from it and try to score with conventional shots just like duckett... 👍

Bazzball was already played in the 70s and 80s by the West Indies. A team needs technically correct batsmen for that not sloggers like the present ENG lot. Players like Lloyds, Fredricks, Richards, Greenidge who could read the length so early with magic footwork. Difference between attacking batting and slogging.

Nass and Arthers! Best analysts in the world! LOVE to hear them any day of the year! Laced with humor and barbs at each other, the quality of analysis is just top notch! These 2, unlike most commentators, used to "predict" the possible next move by the fielding skipper on field, while commentating, and they used to predict it right too! It is very easy to commentate on what you are seeing. Even a Harsha Bhogle can do it. But to place themselves in the captain's shoes from the com-box and suggest fielding positions or plays, is just just amazing and both these gentlemen have done it many many times. Bazzball is still the best way forward. I hope the famous old fashioned, stiff upper-lippers don't thwart it and go ballistic criticizing Ben and Co. Go Indi Of A! Pummel the English 4-1:-)

Disagree ! The game went through highs and lows for both teams. India stood steady when the chips were down for them (3/33 and later Ashwin not being available). On the contrary England simply panic or behave stupidly super-confident and perish. I think Duckets hammering on day 2 made India wake up. Overall a wonderful game - certainly if one is an Indian or neutral supporter.

If India make a rank turner on the recommendations of Ashwin England might have a chance. Their slogging ( bazball) approach will work great on rank turners because they will get a few before they eventually get out. Indian batsmen who have the temperament to score big hundreds and bat long periods of time will be at a disadvantage. Same for Indian spinners who have the skills to get twenty wkts on a decent pitch. Bashir root etc need a raging turner to get twenty wkts

Great to see you both excellent commentators, bazball is worked for eng in first test but sometimes you hv to adapt to situation or you face heavy defeat like this in ind, bazball approach successful in eng only

For Bazball they need to eliminate sweep and reverse sweep first. Play spin with straight face of the bat using your feet.

Do you remember Graham Gooch? He smothered Indian spin with just sweep. Then comes Mike Gatting. Two English players who took Indian spin to the cleaners most of the times.

I don't think so ,the point is sweep is an excellent shot,a bit risky ,but a Player needs lot of Practice and should know on which Pitch to Play ,so it doesn't come easy, the matches india have lost in the past is primarily when opposition Players have Played Sweep Shots well, instances of Graham Gooch in 1987 world cup Semi Finals is pretty much fresh,KP and cook did too I'n 2011,same with Mathew Hayden in 2001 and 2004series and ollie popie or for that matter Joe Root in the first tests of 2024 and 2021respectively.

Had Duckett not got himself run out and scored even like a 50-70 runs, who knows that would've given some support to at least go to like 400 run score. My point is - may be not a lot is wrong with Bazball. Once Root scores England's batting will look very different.
