As someone who is on the other side of this, waiting is the most important thing to do, and especially finding someone who has waited for you. I can only tell you with words how horrible it is to deal with this stabbing heartache in my heart almost on a daily basis, but if you could understand and feel the pain firsthand, it's something you would never even consider in a million years. It tears you down, it eats at you, it cuts you to your core randomly in the middle of your day, it's the thought that never goes away and never gets easier, it is the only unhappiness in my life and it is the only thing stopping me from being able to say "yes" to a man I love. Seriously, wait. You won't ever truly understand the meaning of it until you're with the one you love. It has meaning, unlike a lot of people say, and it can cause damage to someone you will end up loving the most later in life. I am glad you made the decision to wait

This is what me and my husband did. We started dating when we were 15 and dated all throughout highschool and college. We got married when we were 23 an were together for 8 and a half years before we were married. We waited for marriage, and honestly it wasnt easy, but we did it! One of my closest, Christ-loving friends and I had a disagreement a month or two ago about waiting for marriage. She said that if a couple is in a relationship for a long time there's an almost impossible chance that they'll save sex for marriage. Personally I have trust issues which God is helping me work through so I'd said I wouldn't rush in to marriage with any guy. She told me it's nearly impossible to save yourself and if I was already friends with the guy then there's no reason to push the wedding back. I'm still single, growing in my relationship with Christ and this topic is so close to my heart because I want that guy I can just trust more than anyone else and give my everything to completely. I know you and Daniel were in a long distance relationship for a long time and I can't imagine what the temptation must have been like when you'd visit each other. Needless to say, plenty of people thought her and her, now fiancé, were crazy, and they marveled at how such a thing could be. It's stupid how other guys get mocked for being a virgin. TBH not that big of a deal. Most guys who lose their virginity young end up having sex with multiple women but never finding a genuine relationship until later, including myself. I see my mates going on tinder just to have a one--night-stand and can't help thinking "What is the purpose of that?" Sure, it's pleasurable but it just lacks depth after a while and seems more and more bland, and as a result you try and find better and better relationships but none cut it. As a Muslim girl growing up in a western environment, I definitely craved a relationship that included intimacy because that's what all my friends had, it's what I saw in movies etc. I tried to go after it a little when I left home but only now, a year after that I realise that it took me on such an emotional rollercoaster, where my self worth was put in the hands of people I barely knew. Thank you so much for this..I am 19 and gave everything up when I was 18. I had a purity ring and I had a plan to wait until marriage. I let myself listen to everyone else and I let myself fall for the wrong man who ended up leaving the next day. And I haven't heard from him since. That in itself has torn my heart to pieces. I'm a psychology major and whether you are religious or not, there are chemicals in your brain that bond you to a person when you have sex in a way that no other thing can. And those bonds are very powerful and strengthening, which is good if you are committed, and very very painful if you separate. Ive heard similar stories from girls who have sex before marriage, and it can be much harder on us women I believe. It warmed my heart to hear this- if you decide to save your virginity till marriage, there are sooo many sources telling you that you are naive, unattractive, inexperienced, or old fashioned, and I don't think I've ever come across something like this that tells you otherwise. I'm a teenager and I've already seen so many of my friends hurting because they had sex with their boyfriends and became extremely attached to toxic relationships. Great video. I'm in my 40s and have been waiting since I got saved 21 years ago. And believe it or not, I STILL get persecuted. But 'woe to those who call good evil and evil good'. I see the sadness and desperation of the 'sport sex' lifestyle, and I wouldn't want to get into that for anything. By God's grace I avoided disease, but still have scars from broken hearts. It's so worth it just to do it God's way. My mind and heart are so much lighter. It can be lonely, but God is always there, and I know there's a man out there somewhere who feels the same way I do.

My soon to be husband waited... I had not. It has brought me a lot of feelings of regret, and I feel a since of shame. Many feelings about this topic. The craziest part to my story is that I was in many physical relationships between 18-20 and I met my soon to be husband at 21 if I had just waited four more years.. and I love that you said it's not to late to change! Please if your young and are watching this and feel so empty trust me you can do it. Just wait. Pray! I prayed and asked for forgiveness of all these sins and not long after I met the most wonderful man.

I have never ever heard someone say this better! This was beautifully put! It is a hard decision and most guys actually aren't accepting of it. I've had one boyfriend break up with me over it. My last boyfriend tried to pressure me by asking if I was gay. Or asking why I wasn't physically attracted to him. But you what? I didn't wait, after I was raped, I tried to erase a memory with other guys. But, although my hubby wasn't a virgin either, we both made the commitment to wait till we got married. It was super difficult, but when we got married, we were so thankful we did wait! It's worth the wait and even though some of you have already done it, you can find forgiveness in Christ and your future husband. If you want to wait and your man doesn't, then he is NOT the right man for you. Don't give in to the hook up culture and having friends with benefits. It's just not worth it! I stayed a virgin through high school and it was difficult and I was persecuted a lot, and later found out that the guys on the football team had a bet going on who would be the first to take away my virginity. Thankful I was under a lot of prayer and I saw what it had done to my friends. Stand strong!

It was only one time and I ended it with the guy I was with right then and there, but I felt so empty because I knew that what I did was wrong. I struggled with my self-worth and learning to forgive myself. 😞 I really needed to hear this Emily-that even though I gave my virginity away, it does not make me any less valuable or worthy and that my body is still sacred. I watched this video a while ago while I was in a relationship where I felt that my own desires were more important than what God wanted for me. I sort of laughed because though I was a Christian, I felt that sex wasn't as important as it really is. He and I had been friends for a while and then started dating. We were both virgins and only after about a month we had sex. Looking back it was a very physical relationship and was not God-focused at all. It was not growing me and the lust was so intense that we took the plunge without thinking about it first. We did not honor each other. I knew the first moment of guilt was when I asked him when he thought he would have sex and he said when got married. He didn't seem to mind, though. I think the physicality of the relationship blinded us both from the true purpose of a relationship, which is to create a committed covenant. We broke up after three months because he cheated on me with one of our mutual friends. As far as breakups go, it was about as bad as it could have been. I feel partially responsible for maybe planting that lustful seed in him but I also think that maybe I just took what already existed and made it worse. In the healing process I've learned more about sex (in relation to what God wants for us) and now I know that sex truly is for the covenant of marriage. It bonds you to someone and that bond is meant to strengthen your marriage. Sex is a gift from God to bring you closer to your lifelong partner. I feel so convicted about my decision to have sex with someone before marriage. We aren't even together anymore. Granted, it was a blessing to now know what I do and be removed from a relationship that would bring no honor to God, but I won't deny that it was a HARD lesson to learn. The searing pain of losing someone I had let myself be so vulnerable with was undeniably torturous. But now I have risen to a better place than I was even during our relationship. My relationship with God is growing incredibly and I'm so proud to say that he is my savior. I am heartbroken that I cannot tell my future husband that I am a virgin, but I know the Lord forgives and I will not have sex again until marriage. Watching this video now that I am in this place, I now appreciate what message you are sending to believers and non-believers alike. I'm glad you have a platform to share the true pain that this can bring and how damaging it can be for your spirit and future relationships. Thank you for planting this in my head even when I scoffed at it, because I am closer to God now because of it. If anyone read this and received encouragement that would be incredible! Please do not make the mistake I did and give yourself to someone whom you do not belong to.

Amazing courage and absolute truth! As a 55-year old woman, you wouldn't think I could pick up something new from someone so much younger, however the part where you shared about women not being able to leave someone was really on point. Sex creates a bonding. Certainly there are those in society who treat it casually, but you cannot escape that fact. Once you have been with someone sexually, you have given a portion of your innermost self that never returns.

I have a specific friend who is a Christian but is becoming very influenced by worldly things and recently has told me she doesnt think she will have the self control to wait when she gets into college. You can! 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that: if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. If Jesus is your savior and you ask him to come into your heart, by his GRACE and power he can RESTORE your heart, heal any brokenness that you have, and make you a NEW creature from this day forward. That is why Jesus came so we do not have to stay slaves to our sin. You are valuable and in Christ there is opportunity to start over. You just have to decide to take it. :)

This is a difficult video to watch and hard to express in public for me only because I made the opposite decision and I regret it with every inch of my soul. I am a Christian and I agree with your thoughts on this. I have been told by a couple of men that I was closest with and with longest relationships that they wish both of us had waited until marriage. It is a hard thing to hear but it is 100% true. Your husband/wife will only love you that much more and you two will have an even closer bond if you wait. If I could turn back time, I would've done it completely differently. I didn't wait, I knew I wanted to and grew up wanting to, but temptation and coercion led me astray, coming back to Christ with a broken heart and contrite spirit, I gave my sins and pain away to him through the atonement. This is exactly how I feel. Even though I'm marrying the man I lost my virginity to I wish I had waited. He lost his way younger than I did and I wish he would've waited too because of the pain in knowing I'm bonded to him in a way he could never be bonded to me. If you haven't had sex yet please wait. You will never regret waiting but there is a huge chance you will regret having sex.
