He's one of the few characters who are allowed to have decent movement in T7, both horizontal and lateral. Also, for some reason, his command grabs still have the old 15-frame break window.

Thats honestly a good thing, i wish they did that with all the grappler specific characters, or just with command grabs in general to make grappling more viable, you don’t see grapples as much in 7 due to the general nerfing
@davidparry53103 жыл бұрын
@@kaibaman9651 I wouldn't necessarily object to that, but what baffles me is how Dragunov is allowed to be this lone exception to the new rules, at least as far as standalone command grabs from standing are concerned.

His generic 2 throw is really good though. While generics are easier to break, his generic 2 has a really cool sideswitch animation on break. Perfect for getting the opponent to a wall and Drag out of wall pressure.

I recently picked up Dragunov and he's extremely fun to play. I didn't know anything about him and his reputation of just doing wr2 and B1+2 threw me back. But now that I've started playing him I think he's stronger than almost everybody puts him. Especially his throw game. There's a lot into that. I love throw mix-ups but I don't like King so that makes Drag the best choice for me. I feel he's well-rounded too. Good pressure, good mix-ups, staggers... Maybe his wall damage is a bit low but in exchange of a really strong wall pressure. He has range, a tackle, whiff punishment. And what I felt playing online is that in a casual level you can play Drag a bit unsafe that you won't be punished that much. The only thing I would change is his mids hitboxes
@ThoughtsOfHimself2 жыл бұрын
I think Dragunov does lack a fast homing mid, but his other tools are actually quite good. Maybe needs a few buffs to make him great again

Looking forward to this guide series. Drag gets a bad wrap for being unga bunga wr2/d2 but I feel like he has tons of depth. Has long limbs where he can play keep out. I like how when Dragunov corners the opponent and when you tackle for a throw, you have 1, 1+2, 2 that confuse the opponent and I have got these throws most of the times executed even on high-level players cause it's similar to breaking King's chain throws. You can only guess.

Dragunov's tackle is definitely better than King's. Drag > Marduk > Paul > King > Nina. Not only does he get a 3-way throw mix-up instead of mounted punches, but if he gets tackled or his own tackle is reversed, he has a little-known defensive option select that works completely against all characters except Dragunov, Marduk, Yoshimitsu and Negan. (Paul also has the same option select, as well as ultimate punishment, which is why his tackle is also better than King's.)
@ThoughtsOfHimself3 жыл бұрын
what is this option select?
@EternalSilverDragon3 жыл бұрын
@@ThoughtsOfHimself 1+2, 1+2, 2, 1+2, 1+2, 1+2, 1+2, 1+2. This beats left/right mounted punches, the arm breaker and the leg cross hold. 1+2, 1+2, 2, 2, 2 is a simplified version, but it doesn't cover the leg cross hold, so the first version should be used against King/Nina to beat everything. This works because Dragunov and Paul can reverse a right mounted punch by pressing 1, 1, 2. If you want to see the option select, I've got a short video of the simplified version on my channel. (Not just trying to promote my channel - it's actually my only video lol.)

@RagnellAvalon3 жыл бұрын
Dragunov's throw mixes in place of a typical low/mid mix is actually one of my favorite thing about the character. ff+2 is a mid, forcing your opponent to stand to block it, but ff+2~1+2 is a high grab. Similarly, d/b+3 hits low, but d/b+3~1+2 is a crouch grab, so in both instances if your opponent respects you you get to hurt them for free. He has a good mix off his crouchdash, too, since qcf+1+2 will give you ws1+2, qcf+3 is a low that becomes a throw on CH, and qcf+4 is a mid that gives you 50ish damage if you do the command grab extension. qcf+1 is a launcher, even. In both of the first two instances, his strings which terminate in those moves can also be cancelled into throws, which can really mess up your opponent's day.
@zeedan14123 жыл бұрын

@@ThoughtsOfHimself Worth minding that while you categorized him as a rushdown character, Dragunov's rise to fame was mostly thanks to the ultra-safe playstyle of Korean players, who predominantly play him as an outboxer and punishment character rather than relying on his close-in tools

Notes:first-dont watch it as a 1 input, see it as 2,example ff, f+2 or f, ff+2, its personal preference just check what works for u :) Second-if u want to do it in point plank range u really just have to input the last forward with 2 in the exact same time(if u want it to be really fast) but u should start practice by just ff, hold f+2 and by time goes on and on u become consistent with it, start practicing to do it withouth holding it.
