Excellent Video, sound advice, you are truly a professional teacher that focuses on giving the right information, such a shame that a great looking car did not have the TLC applied to its electrical wiring. Hey brother love the video I have been in the car audio industry for 30 years one of my specialties is fixing electrical Gremlins I know what we do is different but a lot of the problems we Face are the same I tell all my guys by yourself a good multimeter and teach them ohm law and Resistance to ground everybody looks at the power side and forgets about the ground just because it's grounded does it mean it's good the multimeter does not lie. A lot of problems I see are due to the incorrect installation of the product the failure is in the install not the product. Also I preach about the longevity of the install a product is only as good as the installer that did it, I love where you say that I learn something everyday in this industry you can learn something everyday experience is the greatest teacher of all peace my brother keep the videos rolling

Just because a material can conduct electricity doesn't mean it is the correct way to build a circuit. There is engineering in play that is necessary for high speed control circuits to function AND communicate. Run your wiring like you would run your fuel plumbing. Neat, attached firmly, as short as possible and away from adverse environments. Good content and thanks for sharing.

Thanx for the tips, I'm starting to plan the wiring for my dominator and you gave me a lot to think about. The first thing I bought was multiple ground straps and one of the msd solid state four relay pack, looks like I'll need a couple more
@Rangernpscience
@Rangernpscience 4 жыл бұрын
Jus RT a note on your relay comment. The idea of using a solid state relay over a mechanicaly triggered relay is in a violently shaking environment, you can literally bounce the contact leg on a relay. I've had a flight monitor show loss of continuity as much as 3 times a second. Maybe a higher end solid state (believe it or not, jet fighters and NASA use a pretty inexpensive one). I'm a wiring guru,and grounds are way to often over looked. When I worked with FordMotor Company, we found most issues (in most automobile makes) in premature failures were from too high of a resistance to ground.

My 393 Cleveland, Full River Battery in the rear, was ground to the transmission mount, nothing to the block, nothing from chassis to block, nothing from block to firewall, nothing from firewall to panel on passenger side, nothing from either cylinder head to firewall. So my issues was hard starting (obviously) killed my coil and damaged my Ignition module. Engine had been previously on engine dyno. In car the lack of ground, lack of spark to spark plugs, would foul up, black sooty, on Premium 98 petrol, require more fuel for start up. And these were only some of my issues. Hence, pulled the whole lot out. I have the video on my You Tube Channel. Wouldn’t mind asking you a couple questions.

Can you use a Bluetooth ground? I heard they are like a multiple earthed neutral with a negative effect and can rectify from ac to dc. But only if you specifically use a permanent magnet hi impedance reluctor on your starter coil and run your injectors in series with your Can bus system. This apparently takes bits from certain packets and packages them in your Word so that the bytes are happy! Is this true or not??? It seems to make sense!!!!

I feel like this is what happens when you become too comfortable with stuff. When I installed my Terminator X I was so nervous to mess it up that I made sure to follow the books by the letter and if there was something that I felt I didn't fully understand I made sure to either talk to someone who knows the Holley systems very well or I called their tech support. Now six months later I've had absolutely no electrical issues with the truck and it has worked flawlessly since day one and I've never touched an aftermarket EFI system before this, I have done Automotive Electrical in the past but it's different working With stock cars that have stock electrical systems in them.

Speaking on the direct grounds from the battery to ECU. I absolutely get it now. I just had none race car with a ground from the battery to the frame. The ground for the engine was from the motor mount to the frame. Guess what, nothing has a ground on the engine if they motor mount is disconnected. Even though the motor is attached to the frame and the battery grounds to the frame. 🤯🤯🤯

I really enjoyed watching the video. I realised a few months back with my own street/race car, i had no motor ground for 4 race meetings. When i paid to have my car rewired, battery in rear, 7AMP ignition, NA car, i had two under sized ground cable in the whole car. The main battery ground went to the trans mount, rubber insulated, nothing to engine, other ground went to rear bumper mount, not bare metalled, not even done up tight. Do you think when these things happen any engine damage can occur? Ground has to find its way back somehow. Couple newer items, shifter cable, look a bit ordinary.

Used to run across a similar problem when I was working on cars (people’s junk daily stuff) saw it mostly on early 2000’s Nissan products. The cylinder head ground would break or corrode off and burn up one of the coils. Usually number 3. And they would fail so hard sometimes you’d a bubble on the coil. Fix the ground, put plugs and coils in and never see it again. Just proving your point on how important grounds are.

I work as a tech for ford and they began using 3 wire coils for a little while now and they always harped not to unplug a coil when the engine is running cause it’ll fry the coil, I think they even had a SSM over the issue, I’d expect it’d be the same for the smart coil as well? Don’t know for sure, just thought I’d throw that out there in cause anyone out there is trying to diagnose a misfire and try’s unplugging one, may kill it.
@theholleyefiguy

with a smart coil its looking for a state of discharge, they should not burn up being unplugged cause if the logic side of the coil doesnt have continuity to the charge side then it should discharge thru the ground path of the head. the 3 wire ford coils are different

I would really like a little more theory about grounding... I could and have made mistakes like that. For instance, grounding my battery to the chassis and block to chassis, or even ecu to chassis. A lot of manufacturers do that from factory. So why is it an issue? I've been told I need a cable from the battery straight to the block, ignored that and it worked fine. Someone mentioned DC flow, maybe there's some theory in there that I'm not understanding. Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance
@n5yiz
@n5yiz 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the exact same thing. All the grounds will become "common" at some point. The ground wire, while not a continuous run, did eventually go "straight to the battery". Why does it matter if the grounding point is each cylinder head and block or just the block or one cylinder head alone?
@aceryas
@aceryas 4 жыл бұрын
@@n5yiz so my understanding of that was stated earlier, if it's ignition or fuel injector grounding it's better to go to the head then chassis, than through the head bolts to the block to the chassis. But I agree with the common ground concept
@n5yiz
@n5yiz 4 жыл бұрын
@@aceryas I really didn't follow where the injectors and ignition were grounded. I just can't wrap my head around why the ground being one foot from the battery terminal is so egregious. It actually makes no sense at all. (see 9:21). Unless the Holley positive wire is supposed to be "hot" all the time, I don't see why the connection to the contactor is wrong either.
@aceryas
@aceryas 4 жыл бұрын
@@n5yiz ya I feel like there was something left out of that part about the computer, like a switch. Don't think those are supposed to be on all the time.
