It's great to see someone admit their faults and not let their ego get in the way. Bravo sir and even more so for posting what happened to help other people before they make the same mistakes. At least it's not a firearm! I've seen unimaginable home jobs on AR's that were awful and dangerous. Keep making videos hopefully not of mistakes you had to go through though.

Hahaha this is nothing.... a few months a go i got a Spartan Blades Enyo and the first day it came i thought it wasn't sharp so i tried to sharpen it...made it insanely dull so in anger i found some guy on craigslist who had a "shop"...turned out to be some middle eastern dude with a grinder in his basement. I let him try to sharpen it out of inpatient he made it sharp but completely ruined the finish so i started freaking out on the way home and through the knife into a river....Yeah i know.

I think the biggest issue a lot of people are ignoring when they decided to loosen their lock-bar, or tighten it is that the ti, just like steel can be bent and have a memory and be springy, but to do this it stresses the steel/ti. when you push it back the other way past that point again you are adding micro stress fractures to the bend/spring area which will eventually lead to a bad failure if you keep doing it.
@jasona5745
@jasona5745 8 жыл бұрын
I would not expect strider to fix these issues. they will fix things they did wrong, not with customer caused issues. I have three striders and have never done anything to them and they all work great!

lol.... your nuts man. But I feel your pain. I just got a DGG SNG and have been using various tools to try to loosen the pivot. Needless to say my pivot is all scratched up now but everything else is fine. Glad you got everything working out.

i use a butane sodiering iron let it heat up then place it in front hole in pivot.. once hot i use spanner tool and 1/8 hex loctite breaks free with zero damage and heart aches just a tip

I don’t loctite my knives, or jack them in any way. I’m not an engineer, and figure that a lot of time was put into designing them. I just break them in, and tighten, or adjust when needed. That being said, I wish I could get my hands on an SMF for retail. This is good info though.

If you send it in to Strider and request them to replace the pivot screw with a new one...they will do so for a charge of $10 for the screw. I had to do that with my first SNG because I stripped the screw. Email Josh and he will take care if it...if your willing to part with your SMF for 2 to 3 weeks.

I see that you are done putting loctite on your hardware but if you have that issue ever again use a soldering iron (heated obviously) and touch it to the bolts to heat them and break the loctite free, it works well and does no damage. I have a Shimano tool for bicycle chainring bolts that works better than any of the so called tools for Strider pivots out there. Just sayin, I'm sure you are not the first or last person who is going to fiddle with one

#2 is, you can force a screwdriver with a rag over it, beteen the grips and twist slightly, to pull the bushing into the G10. IT WILL GRAB. Hasn't failed me yet. If you can maintain the torque on the screw driver, while you used the torx driver on the screw, after having heated it up a bit, you will unscrew it. Guaranteed. Just don't torque so hard on the screwdriver that you ding or crack the G10 or titanium.

maybe holding a soldering gun or wood burner to the screws would transfer the heat to the lock tite and soften it or cause some expansion to break the seal?

Yea, wtf is wrong everyone. Why watch a vid to complain about it? If have you don't have anything nice to say... I have done exactly this same thing. Two tips. First, Loctite responds to heat, by softening. Use a lighter under the screw/bolt you need to losen, for maybe 8 to 10 seconds, and you will be able to unscrew it...even the red Loctite.

I WOULD love to say that I only screwed up one (1) knife in a similar fashion. THAT would be a bald-faced lie. Your knife actually survived your screw up and that is commendable. When I try to improve on the design, the knife in question is usually DOA. My third drawer down is a graveyard of knifes that I truly believed needed improvement upon arrival. Like you, I could never wait or sleep on the problem. No, I had to kill the patient immediately. We have all been there, done that.
