Glad to hear you talking about "neighborhood" fashion. When I was a young woman i cared very much about fashion. As I grew and matured, I realized that fashion is just someone's idea about what's acceptable year to year, or for an unspecified period of time. It's all made up. I remember when skirt length was an ironclad social law. When I was younger, we NEVER wore white after Summer. We HAD to have a bag that matched your shoes. Gloves were essential, too. HAHAHA. I remember when sleeve length was also restricted. In other words, it's all made up and real grown-ups wear what THEY like and what THEY feels right for them. Baggy, skinny, low cut hight cut, thick heels, thin heels, pointed toes, round toes, colors, and even fabrics are all made up. MAYBY so designers and clothes manufacturers can make us think we need to BUY new clothes. My question is WHY women continue to wear clothes that are uncomfortable and even bad for health (stiletto heels for example). Body shapers that they fool themselves into believing are somehow okay but corsets? Oh, no! Also, every look cycles around. Hip Hugger, embroidered jeans were in when I was a twenty-something. They went out and in and out.... Same goes for every look and fashion. Yawn! Wear what you want and hang what others think.

I think you only have to read the comments to see that people will wear the clothes they like and feel comfortable in. I mean, who are these people that are judging us? I like watching fashion advice videos and am generally aware of fashion trends but I will always pick and choose which bits I take notice of and which bits I ignore, as I’m sure most people do. The other thing that I have noticed is that my grandmother at my age now looked much older, her clothes were more matronly, her her cut was older and she had curlers. I have a concave stylish haircut, short at the back for our summers and hot flushes from menopause. My mum is 86 and is a gorgeous dresser when she goes out. So what I wear now, and the hair cut and make up,is so different to my lovely grandma that it’s hard to believe. And my grandma was a dressmaker and looked lovely but just older. Have others noticed this?I don’t just necessarily mean fashion styles, just older ladies in general then. Age 62 now is not what it was in 1979.

As a person who is only 5’ tall, oversize anything will make you look as if you are wearing clothes from a rummage sale. Also, keep in mind where your height is at relative to your overall height. There are short women who still have long legs and short torsos and vice a versa. All of these things matter just as much, if not more than what is “current” to look your best.

I don't care about fashion, trends or designer labels. I have my own style which has always been ahead of everyone else and is unique and a bit eccentric. I know what suits me and what doesn't. I have a lot of long kaftans in gorgeous colours and patterns with beautiful turbans to match, and elegant sandals. I just bought a hooded silk medieval cloak in Royal blue satin with white taffeta lining and trimmed with white fur. I haven't worn jeans for many years and wear jeggings instead or leggings. They are much more comfortable and go up and down with my weight. I'm only 5ft tall and I wear long tailored jackets that make me look taller and slimmer, they look great with leggings and high boots with a nice long tailored shirt under the jacket. I'm 65 and love my silvery white hair. I am often complimented on my skin, and when I wear one of my kaftans with a matching turban it causes a sensation.
@heatherboughton5936 Жыл бұрын
I have always known capri pants as trousers that stop at the ankle and are narrow cut. They can look very elegant if you have the legs. But some larger ladies wear cut off trousers that are mid calf, and then shoes with ankle straps. Both accentuate calf size.

I was thinking about what you are calling " Neighborhood Fashion" just yesterday. I live in Corpus Christi, Texas where winter lasts about a month and most Sundays Mass is held at the outdoor chapel. I wear capris year round. I would like to look classier, more put together but How? Thank you for thinking of me and my coastal living 'sisters'.

You have to take into acct climate and location. I see so many videos saying just throw on a nice blazer to complete your outfit. I can’t do that except maybe 2 months out of the year. It’s too hot wear I live!! Not every piece of advice works for everyone. Take what works and ignore the rest

The popularity of the capri pant is a point of much criticism but often the ladies are petite and find they do not have a hemming problem with them, they work here coastal for walking in the surf and are better than a short short in the hot American South. They are not for the city, but for outdoor pursuits. Thank you. In retirement we can all be fresh and comfortable. signed used to wear a suit and heels daily!

Banana Republic has a few denim skirt options with a more conservative slit. Hope this helps you.

Skinny jeans or ponte pants with a longer top and boots in the same colour as the pants (usually black for me) is my go to in winter as it always elongates my legs. I have a couple of biker jackets and a short denim jacket for over the top and it looks really good. I am 62 and have learnt what suits me, what I look good in and what I look terrible in. In saying that, I’m Australian and capri pants are what we all wear on a stinking hot summers day, so I have those but also some in linen that look smarter and are lovely and cool.

Agree about the denim skirt. Find me one. Also too short shorts and dresses. Both are a real struggle to find.

I still see skinny jeans everywhere. I don’t wear them but I think they will never be out 100%.

I wear what I am comfortable in. I always want to look clean and presentable. I never liked the cold shoulder look.

Be aware that if you sit on a rolling chair at work that midi or maxi skirts (especially ones with a slit) can get under your wheels and drive you face down into your keyboard….in my case: a lathe. That’s more of “keeping your nose to the grind stone” than I need. My mother informed me of this….I poo poo’d her. Never poo poo your mother. She was a fashionista till the day she died.

Capri - no way. White trousers - definitely no way. Front tucks - absolutely no way - so old fashioned KZbinr 2015! I get why women wear tunics - cover up bottoms and tummy area. I wear organic white cotton ones in the summer simply to cover up my fair skin and moles on my arms!

White pants are very French. Mary Ann Lecour talks about them often.
