Agreed. Merino’s cameo was literally his Sociedad version reincarnate, he needed that for himself. Also true, a counter force, a knitter, get a boot on things. And I think a footer Øde would have doubled down on that. Think we were probably unlucky not to get more from today, but whether it’s this or that it’s time to put some wins together post international break. If that happens, things change quickly.

The Trossard touch on the final attack reminded me of that one Auba offside goal where if he never touched it, Ødegaard would have scored. Screams of a player desperate to make amends. I would like to see Sterling given more minutes to take some of the burden off him

Arteta's new problem is a fit Partey keeps Rice out of the side. Rice is not effective as an 8, doesnt pass vertically and doesnt drive forward as much. Merino press resistant, a threat in the box and has a forward pass bias

I don’t think Partey can do the defensive work that Rice can do, so I would still take Rice in the 6 if Merino can lock down the LCM role

Partey was poor defensively yesterday. We have been really open with him at the 6. Our best run last season coincided wīth Partey out of the team. The moment he came back we began letting in chances.

I may have been a few gin and tonics in but I felt we weren’t vertical or intense enough in the final third. It felt like we were giving their very fast defenders time to set a lot instead of going straight for the jugular. Idk I feel like we need an injection of excitement in the front line excluding of Saka.

Performance was a lot better,fixtures swing our way after the break.We need to pick up momentum. Partey has been good but can’t help to notice our vulnerability OOP & in transition. I wanna see the full implementation of rice,merino,Ø I liked merino’s cameo didn’t realise how vertical he could be with his passing.i also don’t like the way rice has been utilised this season for partey. Think that’s it, TBG. Room for error is all but zero now. Making the most of the fixture swing is simply essential. Partey was struggling with managing when to jump/not to follow Øde, made us change things to tilt our press to their LHS and compact things more and pick our moments. Rice is the 6, as I’ve always said. Merino may not be someone who plays every single minute, but that aforementioned trio is Mikel’s preferred choice. As for Calafiori…in a weird way he is a kind of Øde replacement as well as the e LHS fix. He moves blocks around with his movements, as does Timber from RB. If he’s back post the break it’s good, good.

Not sure if timber roaming helps rice in transition as your fullback gets caught high. It seems to me like arteta just trying to tweak like you are saying (fit players in). On merino, so obviously merino and partey works, but... So let's say partey leaves in summer how do you see rice and merino in build up as it has been a challenge for rice to do that in dm given his differences to partey

Our problem, like last year, is that we haven't got midfield right. Thomas is slightly off the pace. Merino, not adjusted yet, and unlucky with his shoulder break. Rice is not an eight. We win only if Merino can get up to speed and Rice and him stay fit. Should not ever have let Xhaka go. Would have won it last year with him, and this year.

Harvey I say this kindly with the goodness of goodness but PLEASE CALM DOWN. there are limited positives from the result & the lack of urgency throughout the team ( manager included ).... we played terrible in terms of doubling up on spacial areas nor actually having cohesion communication hence the Trossard error at the end which could of been the winner.
