As a NTU old boy, I did have lotsa good memories. It’s unfortunate to hear that class participation level today is still far from oversea colleges. We still lack the genuine interest to learn, question and challenge. We are still stuck in the pursuit for grades. I remembered I do everything for grades, just ignore everything that are not related to grades, cos I was just overload with too many, projects, deadline, homework, test, exams,..... CCA, social life, family life, part time work, bgr,.... there are just no real learning if you are constantly overload and stress out. Into the working world, I just have to unlearn and relearn all over again. It’s really painful. Hope you guys don’t follow my footsteps. 90% of my peers are no longer doing what they studied in Uni. Something is wrong with our education. Students from our education do not know what they want to pursue in life. They took many years after working to discover that, less talk about the courage to pursue them in mid career. I am 48.

Just graduated from NTU, can attest that nothing has changed; everyone still struggling with the endless tutorials, assignments, labs, readings etc. and what have you not that each semester is just jammed pack from the very first week. Unfortunately, I belonged to the group that found it hard to engage with the learning, but not that I didn't want to, but just that things are so fast-paced and rigid that there's barely any room for discussion, even in the seminar classes. Even in the seminar classes, unless well-facilitated by the prof and that everyone in the class is willing to speak up and add to the discussion, it usually just ends in about 5 minutes with pretty standard answers. It just takes a lot of the right people, time, and course for the kind of US-style seminar of lively discussions to happen in Singapore. Also agreed that our education does not prepare students for working life - I can tell you so many people around me are so confused as to what they want to do and even for those who do, how to get to where they want to be. If not, another group is just taking whatever job that they can land and then just slog it out meaninglessly in the workforce for the next 30-40 years. I have been very aware of this and am trying to chart my path very carefully, so wanna throw the question back to you - If you could turn back time, what's one piece of advice you would give to your fresh graduate self? Would you have done anything differently in your career? :)

Jacelyn thanks for sharing. That’s two big questions. In a nutshell, think, question and challenge as much as you can in the school. Disregard how people will look at you. Be the trailblazer. You don’t live a life to please everyone. You can never not matter how hard you try. As for career, u need to discover and explore. There are plenty of jobs and industry that you have never heard of? Be daring to follow your heart, unless your hands are tied. I am happy to do a career change at a young age of 26. Plan for your life, do something you like and u don’t actually work. U might want to end your career when it’s time to pursue something else. Life is not just about working. Again, unless your hands are tied. It’s a totally different story.

@@sinsinc they’ve been changing the teaching pedagogy at NTU these past few years. They seem to be investing more in improving the teaching and learning environment at NTU. Has it made a difference? Perhaps you left before the effects could really be felt.

As a staff... I get PTSD from STAR WARS too :') The system is so darn outdated, I have heard from older staff that the system is pretty much the same as when it just came out(it's older than most of the students in their twenties)? Even admins will joke about the "teChNoLoGiCaL" university behind closed doors, we also suffer from the system breaking down for god knows how long. It's not like we didn't give any feedback, but the university doesn't wanna change we also can't do anything :') All I can say is just be nicer to admins and don't shout on the phone, we will try our best to help hahahahahah

Class of 2009, and I have no idea what is STAR WARS. Many parts of the school is unrecognisable. But when I saw LT 24 to 27 near the LKC MLT (which we call it just MLT last time), all the good memories came through.❤ We used to only have canteen A, canteen B and one pathetic macdonalds only, until when I was year 4. All NTU juniors out there, enjoy your carefree uni life! ❤

The module bidding system in NTU at the start of the semester that determines what modules you take during the sem. It's notoriously outdated and bad, and always leads to a huge scramble amongst students because it's first come first served. Website isn't the most robust either and can fail you when it gets overloaded. Imagine trying to buy Coldplay or Taylor Swift tickets, but every semester...

I once met a Singaporean girl studying in the UK. She said that she never liked talking to Malaysians because she didn't want to be affected by the Malaysian English and Chinese accents, WHAT???? Guess what? All my overseas English-speaking friends have told me that they don't want their future children to speak Singlish, they find Singlish weird and harsh to their ears. :D For me, I find Singaporean girl eco is unbelievable, no wonder Singaporean men prefer to marry girl outside Singapore.
