Hey, question for you. Recently bought a turbo car that is tuned on 93 octane. Drove from Washington to Kansas City, and was not able to find 93 octane all the time, so I had to mix 91/93 octane, filling up whenever I needed to. Last fill up was 91 octane, and I did put the royal purple octane booster. I have not tried wide open throttle since I've filled up just in case, and when I drive normally after car warms up at such, afr gauge is usually 14 -15.5, and when I let go the accelerator, I see the gauge sometimes be at 17, or it would show ( - - - ). From what I understand from your video, it is normal for the gauge to read high when decelerating, but what about the 3 dashes? I plan to fill up on 93 octane whenever I use up all the fuel. Thanks in advance

whats the range for perfect AFR? between 12.7-16.7 right? But 18 is not too lean?
@ethelmini3 жыл бұрын
The chemically correct AFR for gasoline is 14.7(air) to 1(fuel), That's by mass - air is obviously compressible so you can't compare volume. Numbers above 14.7 mean the engine if running lean, meaning there's excess oxygen that can literally burn exhaust valves & pistons. combustion will also be faster & hotter, which can cause preignition. Numbers lower than 14,7 means there's excess fuel. You'll get some cooling effect by the fuel evaporating but what you're mostly doing is wasting fuel and producing more pollution.

10.1-10.3:1 is WAY too rich for a NA motor. Your Honda can make maximum-safe power at around 12.8:1. Maybe your sensor is not reading accurately. Do a free air calibration of the sensor... or try a new sensor.

If the gauge is working properly you’ll want to be in the low or mid 11s under full throttle or you’re runnning lean and can melt a piston or pre-ignite the fuel and cause detonation and break chunks of piston off or even bend a rod. Hi, I have a question and you definitely seem to know your shit. I recently picked up a car and it had one of these installed but the car is n/a my question is when I'm driving the car the ratio bounces all over the place but gets really lean at idle. Is this typical for a naturally aspirated engine or could there be something wrong? By lean i mean that it gets up to 17 and then the gauge just goes blank with three lines like it's getting so lean that the gauge won't even read it anymore. It only gets that lean at idle though and most of the time only for a couple of seconds.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage6 жыл бұрын
Something is not right. Forced induction or n/a, it should be 14.7 range at idle. The only difference is yours should go into the 13s at wide open throttle.. my mach 1 is n/a and it was hitting 12s because of the tune being rich

It is normal to be moving around slightly as seen in the video and fluctuating between 14.7 +\- a full point and at 18 under decel, but ultimately lean is hot, so if you’re seeing 16+ normally a lot while driving and not decel I’d look into some kind of issue like a bad fuel pump or clogged injector
