Oatmeal can absolutely be a health food, but most of the pre-packaged products out there are kind of a joke. They take a perfectly healthy food that can LOWER blood sugar and cholesterol, and ADD a ton of sugar to it. For contact, 11g of added sugar is 1 Tablespoon of sugar! 11 grams = 1 tbsp = 44 calories of sugar / carbs, and the max daily added sugar recommendation is 25g MAX for women and 35g MAX for men (and honestly, the less the better).
I meant to say this in the reel, but instead of adding sugar, honey, etc to your oatmeal, try just adding berries or fresh cut fruit! This adds a natural sweetness and flavor that is also packed with extra fiber and antioxidants (polyphenols).
I add a scoop of protein powder to my morning oatmeal, plus berries and nut butter, so my oatmeal is plenty sweet from the protein powder (my fave brand uses only stevia to sweeten) so I dont need to add any sugar or honey. Just an idea!
