I love those Suzuki 4 cylinder 150-200. I've rebuilt a ton of these with great success. Water in the motor is usually 1) blown head gasket 2) water jackets corrode and have holes. I made a video a few years ago about mine. Heads can be found fairly affordably. Have a machine shop resurface the head and block and slap it together and run it for another 8-10 years!
@OutboardDad29 күн бұрын
@@Jhwright07 Appreciate your comments , so I assume I will see the corrosion on the head if that is where the leak is? Where can I source a head affordability?
@Jhwright0728 күн бұрын
@@OutboardDad Correct. Its pretty clear and cut once you pull the head. If its the gasket then it will be burned through. If the water jackets on either the block or the head have corroded then its easier to just replace the block/head whichever has the corrosion. Strouds Marine in Greenville, NC has tons of blocks and heads for that model. Blocks are under $500 and heads are a little less. Tell them that Josh in Richmond sent you their way. Trust me they'll get you setup and they ship sameday. Mon-thurs. I'm interested to know what you find out!

I've had quite a bit of recent experience with both 2 and 4 stroke outboards. 4 strokes are absolutely brilliant, if they're new or less than 10 years old. Any older than that and I wouldn't want one unless it was free! I know there's 4 strokes out there that have thousands of hours on them and still run fine, but unless they are used regularly they just sit and corrode, in my opinion. By the time you notice the milky oil it's too late, there's already water in the engine and you're up for expensive repairs. I've switched back to an old Johnson Ocean Pro, at least they don't dissolve in salt water. And you can pick them up for a song. Just my experience

Hello sir just saw your video very nice I have a 91 Johnson that I bought a few year ago really like the motor it's a beast 115 a mechanic says the bearing are going out which I think there good would love to rebuild it but no knowledge of outboard motor rebuilding I think the older gas engines are better then the new ones today first there over price and you really can't work in them unless you know about them how much would it cost to rebuild a engine like mine verses buying a new one thank you for you time and video
@OutboardDad25 күн бұрын
@@erichumphery6784 I love those old J/E 4 cylinder motors. Do you know why he said bad bearings? Do you hear something knocking? If the crank is bad then you would do better to buy another of the same model for 2-300 bucks and make one out of both. The rebuild cost varies based on what the motor needs but a shop would want over 5k and would not be worth it. If you do it yourself it could be from $1000 to $2000. If you email me I can help you with a phone call. I am also going to make an outboard motor buying guide for mechanics in the future. Keith@outboarddad.com

1992 150 Mercury Black Max still running without any major work done to it. Had a mechanic (a true motor-head) do a little work on it for me a few years ago and deleted the injected oil system. Now I do a premix. Ive kept up with the maintenance over all these years almost to a fault. Nothing goes unnoticed and nothing gets ignored. Anything that looks funny or questionable get addressed promptly. Engine looks almost brand new both outside the cowling and underneath. I would love to put a nice shiny new 4Stroke on my boat but all i keep hearing from mechanics is that the new engines are a sensor and electrical component nightmare.

@@alanberner-h5j I have always been a two stroke guy but the reality is that eventually they are not going to be around forever. That Yamaha 250 was ruined by poor preventative maintenance. Water should never have entered the fuel... and if it did get in the fuel tank of the boat it should have been caught by the water trap/double fuel filter that should have been installed in the line from the tank to the engine.... and the owner should have drained the carb bowls at the end of every season BEFORE storing it for winter.... and again at the start of the summer boating season.
