Just an FYI, the l6 verado power steering pump has its own set of battery cables. So if you just hooked the engine up with jumper cables the PS pump won’t turn on. Could be that simple.

Was thinking it wasn’t hooked up when I didn’t see the starter fuse on the battery terminal

Hi mate, as a flat battery chargers the fluid will increase. If bone dry, fill until just covering the plates. After they accept charge you can then finalise if more fluid is needed. This will prevent acid spilling outside the battery while charging. Also overfilling can make it difficult for the battery to charge properly. P.S if they are 12 years old, you are better off replacing anyway for reliability

Excited to see what the power steering issue is. I was chasing an issue early last year. So many damn suggestions by friends, online pros. It ended up being a 24 dollar fuse block for the battery.

It was lol the way it was hooked up to that breaker and the battery switch lol :)

Learning a lot from these videos. I am going to start a project with old pontoon boat. Got 10 year engine. Going to see if it will turn over and start. Have hear it helps to pour Marvel Mystery oil in cylinders via the spark plug opening. Good or bad
@BornAgainBoating2 ай бұрын
Marvel Mystery Oil is a great oil, so yeah, putting that in the cylinder is a good thing

I'm in the market for a boat like this. Really want to sort out which boats need fuel tank replaced. A lot of boats I'm browsing have been repowered already. Going to watch more of your videos.

Try the Harbor Freight battery charger, Viking Auto Microprocessor Controlled Battery Charger, used it for years in my small engine shop. The recondition Mode brings back batteries that you'd think was a lost cause. The High Freq Charging is the key.

Awesome, thank you! Harbor Freight stuff is totally underrated for some stuff :)

@michaelreynolds1904 If you do regular service and maintenance and use non ethanol fuel, they last more than 3000 hours with no problems.

@MrEspinosa02 I was the service manager for the largest independent Whaler dealer in the world before they were bought by MarineMax. I had more I6 Verados blow up new out of the box than any motor I ever dealt with before, including Evinrude Ficht and Etecs. When the Verados ran, they ran great, but they were still put together by humans. Now, the 600 V12 Mercs are problem child of Merc.

Hey mate, nice job! Im about to tackle this myself as my yoke has terrible play. Would you have a part number for the bolts by any chance ?
@BornAgainBoatingАй бұрын
I don't, the bolts to the steering cylinder come in a kit, you can get them separately though if those are the bolts you are asking about: www.boats.net/catalog/mercury/outboard/225hp/225hp-verado-2b144123-thru-2b578935/power-trim-transom-assembly

Was wondering when you run it on the hose do you just supply water to the wash port or do you have water to the lower unit water intake holes? Or are they taped off?
@BornAgainBoating2 ай бұрын
As long as you are just idling it and you don't run it for a long time, just a minute or so, then we just hook up to the flush port and run it :)

Another question, does the Verado require that steering pump or can you attach a standard hydraulic steering to it? Learning... Been a 2 stroke mechanic then retired early 2006 so now have to learn these monsters lol. Appreciate any info you have.Thanks
@BornAgainBoating2 ай бұрын
Yes, they require that steering pump, I have never, I should, but I have never tried to just hook up a regular steering system to the steering cylinder on the engine without a pump in line, idk how it would perform, but basically yes, they need that pump or it is supposed to be there :) and no worries, we all don't know until we know :)

What spray did you use in the cylinders to lube them up. I have a Yamaha f150 that I'm about to start up for the first time in 13 months and thinking of doing the same.
@BornAgainBoating2 ай бұрын
Just fogging oil, you can use anything really, just some kind of lubricant, PB Blaster if that's all you got lol :)

hiya!, what would it cost me to get that terrible looking top section as well as the small one you took off of it? I need the cheapest, ugliest one I can find lol. I have a 2010 Verado 300 I picked up for my boat but the cowl is wrong. I have the middle section but a 200 top that does not fit. Let me know please, I have a lot of stuff to trade at times as well. Thanks

@BornAgainBoating2 ай бұрын
Lol no worries, you don't have to become a boat tech :) no consultations right now lol that's kind of why we did the program though because I can't keep up with the comments and emails to do consultations. But some people will sign up and we do weekly lives and there's messages and what not so we can bounce questions and answers off each other and that's the best way I've found to be able to help people to fix their own boats :)
