When I was in the village 11 years ago last time - there were still mostly the Soviet outboard engines. Now though it's mostly foreign. But honestly, I didn't expect to see so many expensive brands like Mercury, Yamaha, Tohatsu. I thought it will be mostly Chinese motors... But maybe the Russian villagers prefer to pay more, but have more reliable motor.

The smaller Mercury motors, under 30hp I think (or something like that), are made by Tohatsu in Japan. I was buying a new outboard a couple years ago and ended up just getting Tohatsu because it was the same motor for lower price and has better warranty. Also, the reason you see 9.9hp motors is because of regulation in some US states that any boat motors of 10hp or more need registrations and/or licenses. So many companies make a 10hp motor but call it 9.9hp to help customers avoid government interferences. :)

Invest in quality products and you won't have to replace them as often. That's a gorgeous lake too :)

You probably will end up with Chonda. ie Chinese copy of Honda. I have a Chonda dam pump that is 10 years old, it was $200 instead of $750

It's beautiful there. Few people yes, but great to see some of nature (at least in spring time).

Привет Sergey 🙂. As for those Soviet Ветерок motors are you aware there is quite a detailed article in the Russian Wikipedia? I learnt from it the Ветерок-8 motor your family had and which is now not working anymore was 8 PS/HP and 173 cc. These motors were produced from 1964-2008.

I guess the seaguls eat more garbage than fish, LOL! interesting documentary. I guess people don't care where the Mercuries come from, they want a good engine that never fails. I was calling that a river, but it seems more like a lake? very sensible ecosystems. Treat it well!

Hi Sergey and thank you again for the nice video. The audio, or the wind noise rather, was a bit of an issue in understanding you though. Maybe getting an external microphone while they are still available in Russian shops could do the trick. It is a very beautiful environment where you are, indeed. Like a picture from a time long a ago. So relaxing, at least in summer 🙂.

Maybe you can ask a babushka to sew some bedsheets together and make a big sail? Borrow some of those logs to make a mast. With that wind, you'll have the fastest boat on the lake.

Great video, it highlights how far behind the free world Russia is. We can go and buy any boat motor we like, and boat for that matter.
