I think Ozpin actually liked Jaune and saw through all of his faults and idioticness...which is hard since at this time there was a lot of it. Besides that, he saw the potential in him. He knew he snuck his way in too, because he's Ozpin. But he knew what would come out of it. And he was pretty much right. Jaune has improved a great deal!

I... Disagree. One thing the fight scenes are lacking early on is Narrative importance. A lot of the later fight scenes help to tell a story. Some of the Early fight scenes, such as Yang V Neo, cool as they are, are just... there. It’s not until V3 that Narrative Weight gets added to the fight.

Rosehip Of St. Gloriana We get that in the Fight against Team FNKI which ALSO sets it up to the whole world AND makes it clear WHY Cinder and Co set up said fight to begin with. Perhaps a better example would have been the fight against the Nucklevee? As that fight tells the story of Ren moving past his grief, and Nora refusing to let him throw his life away?
