I had to watch this video again. Just studying David Grissom’s right hand technique, hybrid picking, and using the pots for tonal color is like getting a college degree from Berklee.

Thank you for posting it Robert. DG, Billy Gibbons, are the real deal. T-Bone Walker, Gatemouth, Johnny Copeland, the Vaughn Brothers, rock n’ roll royalty, Texas rocks.

I first met David in 1987. He was playin guitar for Joe Ely, who's a friend of mine. Every project David has done, he's been the hotshot guitar player, but also the sideman. I think it's great that he's branched out more into writing, singing, and being his own frontman. He's a good singer, a good writer. And the scorching guitar is just the cherry on top. We're just all too spoiled in Austin, getting to see him on a regular basis. But, NO complaints at all!!!!

First saw David on MuchMusic when he was playing with Joe Ely. His tone and playing knocked me out and still does. I have his first two solo records and they are fantastic. Humble guy, great player and absolute killer tone.

That is some swingin’ Texas blues, DG crushing it on all fronts tonal and frontman, really nice.

He played with my favorite 2 bands, Joe Ely & Storyville. Monster tone !

Smokin' ! I love DG's use of space and lyricism in his lines. He can blaze, but doesn't crowd notes nor play notes for the sake of filling all the time. I think they call it impeccable good taste. Never tire of listening to him, and this is one great song composition as well.

It goes without saying that David's playing is outstanding but love the vocal too, he has a very expressive voice, not polished but really good to listen to.

He’s written many amazing songs. He’s underrated, under-appreciated and under-publicized as a songwriter. Good Day For the Blues and Way Down Deep I will put up against any classic rock tune from any era. David has inspired me to be a more decent human being with every listen.

Hey, Joe. Indeed! Love your country English. I failed 3rd grade too and I loved it. Too much throwin' spit balls and lookin' up chickies dresses. It's all rock and roll, brother. Welcome Home! PJ the Vet.

@@stratless Back then? Not sure. Probably some kind of PRS. These days he's playing his PRS signature model.
PRS DGT through his pedal board into a PRS signature 30 watt/EL84's into a PRS 2x12" cab.

I first saw him as Joe Ely's sideman, when joe used to play north side bars in Chicago once in a while back in the mid 1970's. David was great then and still is.
@johnsmith-zf1fd5 жыл бұрын
How can that be when DG was born in 78?
@jacobbrown34792 жыл бұрын
@@johnsmith-zf1fd DG joined Ely’s band in ‘85 or something, which would make him 7 years old if he was born in 78. He was probably born in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

what is David using here for overdrive tone? Pedals or amp gain?
@wangbar14 жыл бұрын
At the time he used a Psionic Audio Telos pedal and an Xotic EP Booster and amp gain.

Silvio, Here you go: Lest we forget, bridges are burnin‘ Lest we forget, the tides they are turnin’ Please forgive us, send some help from above We’ve got all we need, but it’s never enough And I’m sorry to say, that I’m amazed at what passes for love Brother to brother please lend a hand Father and mother, won’t you help us understand We learn kind of slow, but these lessons are tough This house will survive if we hammer hard enough And I’m sorry to say, that I’m amazed at what passes for love Too many riches, too many rules Too many heroes, and too many fools Fuel the fires of the wars we wage Fire of anger, without light Fire that shatters the black of night With seeds of hate and tears of rage.

Would get to Antone's early for Storyville in '95 to make sure I was right in front of David's guitar amp. Would just listen to his guitar the whole time.

Good song, I'm new to DG, I'm really trying to like the PRS Guitars but I can't hear anything coming from this guitar that make's me stand back and say wow that guitar sounds good, Just isn't happening. Maybe a different song?? IDK.

+Pistol Walker try picking one up and jamming on a (real)big stage. They are awesome
@runrabbitrun43428 жыл бұрын
kadu almeida I can do all of the above Other than the really big stage. I have the really big amp.
@StigCarlsson8 жыл бұрын
+Pistol Walker That's more of a problem with the recording than the guitar sound in itself. Vidcams can really suck at getting the sound right. Loads of treble and some bass and not much of a midrange to make the song and the guitar sound right. You don't need a really big amp, David uses a custom built 30 or 50 watt amp on most of his gigs...

Grissom is a tone God. He’s got some of the best tone I’ve ever heard, particularly at the crazy reasonable volume levels he’s at here. Check other videos from Saxon Pub. If you don’t dig the tone...there’s no accounting for.....
