At 17:50 wow! What a beautiful sunny instrument! Tight as a drum with a wonderful mid range and upper range for the melodic improvisation so endemic to this style of music. But then when you whack the bottom string and get that huge bass drum response there’s no doubt that you’re listening to one of the Premier improvisational stringed instruments on the planet. And apricot would? Oh my goodness that is fantastic. Is it possible that the top is spruce? I have one suggestion for you and maybe I missed it, but it would be great if you could provide the actual website links to these different builders. You know how KZbin is, it’s a video and sometimes the narration can get models or what have you. Please consider it

Since someone asked: The ribs of the bowl are solid wood and are thicknessed to approximately 2mm before bending on a hot iron in order to construct the bowl. Different luthiers might do things a little differently, but the thickness would need to be the same for bending, and always solid wood, not plywood or laminate.

Would you consider buying an Al-Bashir oud? I know Omar Bashir has been promoting these ouds designed by their workshop and they are Iraqi-Bashir-style ouds with a floating bridge, and they also have a slightly more expensive model that is based on the original Munir Bashir's oud. I have personally been thinking about getting one from them.

I personally would love to test one, but I've never had much of a love affair with floating bridge Ouds. It's not the sound I'm looking for. I have one floating bridge Oud by Mohamad Fadel's son, and it's nice, but not sure. It's one of those Ouds that I would have to try before I buy. Other than that, I have heard great things about them. And the craftsmanship appears excellent. One man luthier job. One of my previous student's bought one and is very happy with it. He told me if you like a bright/Turkish sound, it's great.

Great video Navid ❤️ why don’t you use pyramid lute strings? What you think of zaher khalifa ouds?

I've wanted to try for a while but before I moved to Japan I was addicted to Aquila. Now that I'm in Japan my shipping costs have soared so I've been buying what's already available in Japan. How are they different than Oud strings? I'm not really clear on how they are different than Oud strings. Zaheer Khalifa ouds look really nice, but I've never seen a video clip of one. I'm curious.

@@OudforGuitarists based on my limited experience the bass strings are the best in market sound and quality I prefer copper wound. Trebles kinda of soft nylon I mean it holds the tuning within a few days with much clarity. Was told by nasser shama and some luthiers that no oud will sound bad with pyramid lute. If you need any help with strings or anything else from Europe I’ll be glad to help . I normally order directly from the factory it’s a bit cheaper.

@@DavidvanD21 Well, I suppose it's time I try those next time. Have we been in touch by email previously? My email in support@oudforguitarists.com, I'd love to get more info on how you order them and what gauges you use.

My oud has wooden pegs and I can barely turn or set them. Any ideas?
@OudforGuitarists3 жыл бұрын
Check the humidity in your place. If it's high, you should wait till the weather gets drier, then leave your Oud in the dryness for some hours and try to loosen the pegs. If you think the pegs are just really poorly made then you should take it to a violin repair shop and see if they can remedy the situation or if necessary replace the pegs. Good luck. 👌

You should do a collab with Brandon Acker!

I've thought of that previously. He's got an Oud player that works for his online school already but I suppose it's worth thinking about again. Curious what you have in mind exactly?
