Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. If you are thinking about moving to Arizona feel free to subscribe and check us out on our other channels.

The Latino/Hispanic population is one of the two original groups here, and Arizona WAS Mexico until the Gadsdon Purchase that you heard about. That's why everything has Spanish names as California does. As a white person, I often feel that we are only guests here. ❤ from AZ.

Due to listening to almost every single video that Jeff has ever made- (he helped me immensely in my decision to move to AZ), I have had no surprises. Certainly no bad ones anyway. I started watching his videos in 2019, which lead me to do a 4 day driving tour of the state of AZ with 1 of my sisters. I bought a house there about 14 months later. If you are wondering about anything, go back to his oldest videos & just start watching them all. Since Jeff is mostly positive about AZ, you can also listen to "Living in Arizona" (Sam), who is more negative about AZ, to hear the other side a little bit. None of Sam's "negatives" were super negative to me, so weighing the pros & cons, I made the move & I love Arizona. Arizona is the 5th state that I have lived in so far in my life. Life is an adventure. If you are considering a move, learn as much as you can about what is important to you, visit a few times, & make your decision. Good luck!

AZ has tremendous law enforcement. They are more discreet and try to blend in hidden places to catch speeders and driving under the influence drivers. Big urban cities are used to seeing lots of “marked cars” as a deterrent. In AZ they try really hard to blend in. Believe it when anything goes down law enforcement will show up in pickup trucks - mustangs- work trucks fitted etc in minutes. From everywhere. You’ll be like where did they all come from .

I’m not sure how I feel about that, on the one hand I am glad that it keeps drunk drivers at bay, however I personally feel that cops should be visible so that way if people need help they don’t feel intimidated approaching them, And when you create a stealth police force then it makes people paranoid and scared to trust or approach cops

What you need to know is that Arizona is in the midst of a 20 year drought and water shortage. Our water is transported over 300 miles from the Colorado River and is shared by 7 other states and Mexico (some are also experiencing droughts.) They divvied our water rights in a wet year, so there isn't enough for everyone now. To make it worse, we have state legislators and a governor who are weakening our water protections. Rep. Gail Griffen (District 14) is a realtor who chairs the Natural Resources, Energy and Water committee. She initiated several bad bills that weakened water protections so she can profit from development that would destroy the San Pedro River. So, if you are coming to Arizona, please, help us conserve water. Don't put in grass or a pool. Put in a cistern (water barrel) to use rainwater on drought tolerant native trees and plants.

I lived I Arizona for 50 years and loved every minute of it. Now I live in Kansas. As far as I know the reason why we have basements in Kansas is to have an escape from the tornadoes. In Arizona one of our neighbors had a basement. In that neighborhood the caliche was only one foot thick. To my knowledge the water in Arizona was being pumped from over 800 feet down. That’s good news for a basement as it should help it stay dry. In Kansas we have a problem with damp basements because of shallow water tables. Thanks for your channel. I really enjoy it. Basements & crawl spaces of cement foundations are necessary due to frost & climate... Come on. 🇨🇦🤔
@philipem1000
@philipem1000 2 ай бұрын
There's more reasons for not needing basements and having one story homes -- You don't need deep foundations because there is no need to get below the frost line, so no need to dig deep (and the cost of both digging and foundation walls are avoided too). Also land is still cheap here and it's cheaper to build a single story home, less structure, no stairs. The newest homes are tending to be two story because land is getting more expensive and people want big houses)... Finally in the midwest basements evolved from insulated root cellars used to store things to be the place where you keep the coal pile and the furnace. My house uses a heat pump, which is mounted on the roof; none of the interior space is taken up with a furnace; in most houses that do have them they take up one small closet.

Shawn, you're probably already here but... This warning is for you and anyone else coming to the desert. Do some homework including pics but learn about Cholla Cactus. They've got nicknames like Jumping Cholla, Teddybear Cholla, etc. They don't really jump but the little fluffy balls will stick to your skin, through your pants or tennis shoes and the reverse barbs hurt a lot pulling them out. All you have to do is barely touch them and they ATTACK you. Staw away from them, lol.

Actually it's easy to avoid the worst of the triple digit temps by moving to a higher elevation, where it's often 10-15 degrees cooler than the surrounding desert lowlands. Of course the winters can also be a tad bit chillier, but have found that around 3,000 to 4,000 ft. elevation tends to be a good 'sweet spot'..

I plan on solar heating when I go to AZ; I moved back up to Ohio and after three years here I'm ready for hot again. I grew up here, lived here for 20 years, went to Louisiana for eight, California for 14, Kansas for six, Florida for over nine, Ohio for three after that.

Michael, a few months ago there were 30 consecutive days of triple digits in the Valley (if you remember). 10 years ago my wife and I lived in Scottsdale for 10 years. Moved back to CA 10 years ago be closer to aging parents. We would consider a move back to AZ but the choices would be in the Prescott/Prescott Valley area or Oracle AZ to be out of the heat dome. One parent has passed and we just moved my 95 year old father-in-law into a Independent Living Community. Time will tell what we will do. Say what you want about CA, the weather just can't be beaten though. We live in a Sacramento suburb. 1 /12 hours to Tahoe, less than 2 hours to SF (where we lived many years go). No kids.

I live in the Tortolita/Oro Valley area. Cops everywhere! 3 just on my street. Can't drive a full mile without seeing a cop or getting pulled over by one for something stupid. The cops here are mean too! They even have the right to jam a needle in your arm and take blood while you're sitting on the side of a dusty road. They lock people in hot cop cars for hours at a time with no water, no air blowing, and the windows up. Don't believe me ? Google how many police dogs die every year because their cop owners accidentally leave them in a hot car for too long , Sometimes OVER NIGHT or OR FOR MULTIPLE DAYS! If that's still not enough, the laws are corrupt and the cop who arrests the most people by the end of the year gets a cash bonus! If you're pulled over for driving while intoxicated but you blow a 0.00 and your side of the road blood test comes back clean your STILL getting a DUI & GOING TO JAIL!!! that's because MADD also gives out a cash prize to the cop in each state who hands out the most DUIs. Doesn't matter that you blew a zero & your blood was clean. In Arizona the police decide who's intoxicated no matter what the proof says. It's 100% percent up to the police.

The heats not bad because you’re mostly inside and you definitely need a car but Ubers are everywhere just be prepared to spend money. Personally, I have found people to be very friendly here but like anywhere on this planet, there’s always an asshole that pops up and you just have to ignore him/her and keep moving. Rents are very high and if you get sick be prepared for long waits in the ER. Find a good primary care asap. Wear plenty of moisturizer and drink water. Other than that, I love Arizona but because of the extreme heat I probably will be leaving by the end of the year. Oh, the taxes here are insane.

Can you talk more about the water hauling issue in the Rio Verde Foothills? Are people even moving into that area. I don't really hear much about it. Would love some more info. Thank you.
@DesertDweller74

If people are smart, they won't move to Rio Verde Foothills in the first place. The city just cut off the water hauler to that area so now there are very expensive homes out there with NO water. Make sure you are on city water in Phoenix.

Even in NW Tucson (Marana) housing prices have gone up. Our house was built in 2000 and is worth close to $300,000 and it’s only 1,100 sq ft. I think that’s ridiculous! Red Rock was promised all kinds of shopping areas when first developed but it never happened. Now residents have to drive miles for groceries 😮

Of every state I've ever lived in Arizona is hands down the best state I've ever lived in. And as for the heat and taxes...taxes are high everywhere for one...and second there are hotter locations in California. Especially Palm Springs and the Mojave Desert/Death Valley areas where temps on a daily basis in the summer are well over 120° each day. So if you can't take the heat don't come. And water is scarce and is a precious commodity in the desert...so one must absolutely know how to conserve water and make it stretch. If you can't or won't do any of this don't come here. And if you do come here leave ignorant politics behind you. People in Arizona are decent for the most part and kinder than most states. You have ignorant violent criminals everywhere, but the majority of people are great people. I'll never leave Arizona again. I found my piece of heaven out in the middle of nowhere and I'll never leave. ROCK ON ARIZONIANS!!!!

Show front and back of fitted hat..You could also put a small Az flag on the back of the hat too….We also like the Flexfit hats a lot too .As an an example look up under armor flexfit hats…I’d love that hat with the Phoenix on it.. black hat red Phoenix…

Thanks for providing these informational videos. Another thing I'd add people may want to know...they better be able to finance over a million if they want to live in the houses and neighborhoods you're showing, especially in the first 2 minutes of this video. I'm mostly seeing shanties and double wides in disheveled neighborhoods around Phoenix and Tucson up to the 350k range, the only exception being the 55+ neighborhoods. And another question regarding all the disheveled neighborhoods...they look like 3rd world countries from above. Why do so many people have so many cars and junk in their tiny yards??? My post probably seems negative, but I'm genuinely curious as I've been looking at listings hoping to move to AZ.

I moved from Michigan to Buckeye. Five years ago only because of my husband’s health. It’s great for him I hate the summers love October to June. I am shocked at the health care cost and shocked the school system has such high cost for health insurance. I can’t add my husband on health care it cost 1,200 every two weeks. I don’t even make that much.
