Great results. I'm looking to replace my old 16 GB ddr4 dominators, 2080ti rog strix, 9700k sometime next year. Probably getting 15th gen i7 or i9 and top end 5000 series Nvidia, hopefully DDR5 has even more options and optimizations at that point. Current rig runs Star Citizen just fine, but if it lines up so I can build a new pc with a new monitor for SQ42 release that would be awesome.

This truth that X3D has very high fps in lite loads (higher than RPL), but lower 1% lows (lower than RPL) in very demanding CPU scenes applies to more games. I can't wait for the OC-ed Benchmarks Revolution to come! 😀GJ, don't stop now! 👍

It's a bit funny that both Raptor Lake (14th gen Intel) and Raphael (Zen 4) could be shortened to "RPL" :D I had to re-read your comment at least once because I was thinking Raphael the first time :D. But yeah, in the heavy scenes, like Lorville, the much-much-much lower memory bandwidth of the 7800X3D will limit its potential. Hopefully with Zen 6, AMD can solve the bottleneck that the infinity fabric poses to memory bandwidth, with the rumored new packaging technology (basically what RDNA 3 uses for chiplets, and also what Nvidia has utilized with Blackwell)
@ItsJustVV
@ItsJustVV 8 ай бұрын
@@cpt.tombstoneRPL is used for Raptor Lake since 13th gen, so it's been a while now. Not many people abbreviate Raphael as RPL, because saying Zen4 is easier & less confusing it with intel CPUs. I am glad though that you said Zen6, instead of Zen5, because this is the truth that a lot of AMD fanbois don't know or want tot admit. I would be very surprised and impressed if they manage to fix Zen's inherent design flaws with Zen5, so yeah Zen6 should be their new architecture that supposedly fixes this, but I don't expect it sooner.
@cpt.tombstone
@cpt.tombstone 8 ай бұрын
@@ItsJustVV I was not aware there were rumors that Zen 5 would be using new packaging tech. With Zen 5, I don't expect more than maybe a 10% bump in fabric clock (which should still be a noticeable improvement in bandwidth still) and maybe 5, max. 10% clock speed increase, with some moderate IPC gains due to the larger L1 cache. A solid upgrade over Zen 4, based on the rumors, and the AI "co-processor" (more like iGPU, but whatever) should come in handy in a few tasks. I'm expecting bigger things from Zen 6. Monolithic Zen CPUs can already run crazy memory speeds, north of 10 GT/s, hopefully Zen 6 will catch up to that with the new interconnect. I'm also really excited to see what Rentable Units will bring to the table with Arrow Lake. From what I've read, it could be a really good way to utilize heterogenous architectures that both of the x86 CPU makers are moving towards, Intel a bit more so than AMD, but Zen4 / Zen4c is still a step in the same direction. I still wish for more exotic things like HBM L4 cache on the CPU, or die-integrated water cooling channels, but still, it's good to see exciting new generations after years of Intel domination and marginal improvements.

It's not exactly surprising that a system with 8.2GHz memory runs faster than one with 6.4GHz memory. The difference in frame rates over computationally intensive Lorville is about that too (ratio of ~65 FPS to ~50 FPS is roughly the same as the ratio of 8.2 to 6.4).
@cpt.tombstone

Just the memory frequency doesn't tell the whole story. The 7800X3D is very heavily limited in terms of memory bandwidth because of the infinity fabric (in fact, the 7800X3D can't even saturate the bandwidth of 6000 MT/s memory). With highly tuned memory, a 14900K could have as much as 2 times higher memory bandwidth. Of course, the huge L3 cache really helps with that as L3 cache on the 7800X3D has around 700 GB/s of bandwidth, while even with 8000 MT/s on the 7800X3D, you would be looking at less than 70 GB/s on the memory. I've seen 14900Ks reaching 130GB/s, for comparison. Zen needs additional CCDs and memory channels to take advantage of higher memory bandwidth. A 4 CCD Threadripper based on Zen 4 is able to reach 200+ GB/s in memory bandwidth, for example.

@Farrister
@Farrister 8 ай бұрын
It's an interesting idea, but do you think there would be a big advantage to having 2 stacked caches? There's still a performance hit when processes have to communicate across chiplets, and I suspect that's a far bigger factor than the omission of extra cache on the second chiplet.
@Lolle9999
@Lolle9999 8 ай бұрын
@@Farrister from what I have seen benchmarks on. The 7950x3d performes better with the non 3d vcashe chiplet turned off either via bios or other means in the majority of games. This being a thing while the 7800x3d performing better than the dual chiplet of the 7950x3d (in most cases) makes me suspect heavily that the whole reason the 7800x3d has a low to big lead in games overall today is almost entirely because the 3d cashe. Now imagine if we can get almost two 7800x3d's slapped together in one cpu and that would be a dual chiplet with now even bigger cache due to both chiplets having those cores instead of only one. In the beginning of the 3dvcashe era of the games such as cyberpunk 2077, Intel had a big lead but look how that turned around quick, while the Intel e an p cores mostly just gave us stuttering issues. Both and and Intel tried two new ways of doing CPUs that gen and in the long run. The test part (3dvcashe) turned out amazing so I hope they double down on it next time instead of doing it half asses (imo) as they did with the 7950x3d.
@Farrister
@Farrister 8 ай бұрын
@@Lolle9999 I think the main issue isn't that the cores don't have 3D V-cache (7950X performance as an example), but moreso that any cross-chiplet communication adds significant latency. I tend not to disable the non-3D CCD during gaming because I can hook the game process to the cached CCD in other ways. I think adding cache to a second CCD probably wouldn't add much performance in current games, because there would still be a penalty for cross-CCD communication, and most if not all of the threads that benefit from the extra cache are already on the cached CCD. Maybe in future, more demanding games, there may be an advantage. So unless there was a way to truly share the cache between CCDs without a performance hit, I suspect the advantage of such a chip would be very limited. But equally I think most of us who own a 7950X3D don't want to use it quite like a 7800X3D, or a 7950X - it's kinda a hybrid for both productivity tasks and gaming.

Hello. For last two day's I'm investigating this topic and found a lot of "7800X3D is the king" videos. In your materials I see that's not exactly true (mostly in lows). Also RSI Telemetry page shows that lot of CPUs outperforms 7800X3D in Star Citizen. Normally I'm playing with OC but my current setup is totally opposite - I'm using i5 12400F on ASUS PRIME B660-PLUS DDR4, 32GB of Goodram DDR4 3600 CL18, Asus RTX3080 and two 1TB 970 EVO m.2 . Only CPU intense games I play is Star Citizen (1920x1080) and MS Flight (in VR - Pimax 8KX). I'm considering upgrade of cpu or swap of current cpu/ram/mobo (the one I use would then go to my son PC - plan for his PC is next year but we can take that into consideration). What would you recommend for me? Keeping current mobo and upgrade of CPU to for example 14900K (no OC most probably on this mobo) or maybe buying 7800X3D + mobo + for example 64gb of 6000 CL30 RAM. Or maybe something else (with not changing anything included)? Normally I'm handling those topic myself but I see that you have lot of experience and possibilities regarding Star Citizen and tuning for it. I will be really grateful for advice. Regards

The next Gen CPUs 9800X3D and Intel Ultra 9 285K are coming out in the next 2-3 weeks. They are expected to be at least 10% fester than current gen equivalent based on leaskes. So my recommendation is: 1. Wait 2-3 weeks for mainstream reviews + my tuned reviews 2. Evaluate which platform that makes most sense based on your budget and performance goals (what FPS do you want in star citizen at 1080P) 2.a) Do you need to tune or overclock to achieve the performance you want? If not pick the platform as is with XMP. 2.b) if you need to tune to achieve your performance goals, you can learn how to in my discord, or just test one of my pre-tuned BIOS profiles (if you have the same motherboard) or just pick up a consult. I am increasing my price by the end of the year to $250. www.game-day.xyz In the end without knowing too much about your star-citizen performance goals my assumption is that getting the 9800X3D + 6000mhz CL30 with a B650 board would make most sense. As it would for 90% of PC builders.

Compare your latency to server, suspect you will find if it's the same, regardless of processor, your fps will be very close if latency difference is around 1ms, 5ms and you will see a difference open up.

tried this on multiple servers unless there is a lot of traffic in some areas I get almost a single frame per second variance I play on massive latency 180ms makes no difference at all I get better fps than most people.

The tricky part of these comparisons is unless everything, other than the specific parts being tested, aren't exactly the same, the data is hard to compare. Even if he is running a different monitor, with the same resolution you are, that can be enough to throw off the numbers. If you have a lot of little differences: couple Nvidia settings that are different that affect frame rate, the mentioned monitor, other stuff running in the background like a Tobii Eye Tracker, which he mentioned before he uses. These all add up. Even the first section where he was in space. He was looking at the sun, you were not. That makes a pretty big difference in FPS.

 @user66676 Oh yeah guess you are right, I just assumed it could based on the many ram options that are above 6400+. Still wouldve been nice to know cas latency and to have them tested at the same mhz and have a seperate data entry for what the 13900kf is capable of. Along with what he did to tune his ram.

This is not a 1:1. The biggest thing, as per your metrics, is the RAM. Why is it tuned significantly lower on the AMD build? That would completely skew the results.

X3D CPU are faster when...there is no need to be and MUCH slower when under heavy load, so you are above your screen refresh most of the time when there is no need to be and you are stuttering like crazy in other places... What you should check is average FPS in cities, not top FPS in space, alone...completely useless. I've done tons of testing and intel CPU are a much better choice because of this, most of the time. Of course, you NEED to tune your memory, this is very impactful for intel CPUs, way less for AMD X3D ones.
