I don't think the rolling back of time is time-based (i.e 24 hours). The aliens do not have 24 hours concept. The rolling back of time is determined by the last time Cage slept. Alpha's blood gave Cage the ability to transfer his consciousness to the last time he slept. Omega's blood on the other hand transported his consciousness to two sleeps prior. Sleep was the 'save point'.

My two cents...When Cage kills the Omega and gets covered in its blood, he becomes the Omega. As the Omega, he controls time along with all the Alpha's and Drones. When Cage resets time back to when he is on the helicopter, all of the Alphas and Drones would be brought back to life as well. However, as he is now the Omega, Cage can do whatever he wants with them. There is reference to a surge of energy when Cage resets time. I think that is him, acting as the Omega, killing all of the Alpha's and Drones or at least pushing a surge of energy through them to remove their ability to fight. He chose that specific time in order to keep all the soldiers of J Squad and Rita alive and to put himself in a position to reconnect with her as a Major.

I think I know the true version… Omega can’t reset time whenever it dies, it can do so when an alpha dies. But back there Cage not only had a contact with Omega’s blood, but also with Alpha’s since one was in the water too. After that he had a complete control over time and could do what he did.
@mannygee0054 ай бұрын
Like it a lot!, In addition... the Alpha save point could be set by the Omega and it's set to some time before the battle... but there is another save point for the Omega which is much earlier. We could make up something cool like there's a ritual before a major campaign that sets controls of the drones and initiates the Alpha time - and this ritual causes the save point for the Omega... which Cage disrupts by killing it and it negates the ritual and zeroes out the drones and Alphas in a feedback surge.

I'd like to know exactly what the writers intended. My theory was that once the Omega is defeated, it resets the day and leaves the planet. So if the planet's defenses are good enough to kill an Alpha, they can try a different strategy, if it's good enough to defeat an Omega, they better back off and bring a bigger/ better army (which would make for a good sequel). The "power surge" they detected at the end of the movie was the Omega leaving the planet.
@raizors1331 Жыл бұрын
In the original source (novel), those mimic are "worker drone", they are there to terraforming the planet, and they make their main base deep in the ocean no human can reach. So yes, human can wipe out a whole army of their, they will just produce more mimic and keep invading over and over again. And evolve along the way too so human weapon become less and less effective at killing them. The future is no doubt bleak, yes, humanity seem like they are destined to doom in the novel. I guess when they adapt it to movie they simplify it a lot and also change the premise so that it doesn't feel hopeless.

This actually makes way more sense than the explanation in this KZbin video.. I mean why would the omega attempting a reset result in the death of all the mimics? If it managed to reset then it would reset to where it was alive a day ago. If Cage killed the Omega and it was unable to reset due to “death” then it would simply die. All the mimics would die. Cage would die and time would just continue. The UDF would land on the beaches of France and not face any resistance and the war would be won but they’d never know who did it until they found the wreckage and remains of J squad at the Louvre.

1 thing people are often confused about at the ending of the film is that because Cage/Cruise and J Squad launched their attack several hours BEFORE the entire surprise invasion took place, and Cage got covered in the Omega's blood he was able to regain the ability to rewind time 1 day again like when he got covered in the Alpha's blood. So, when he went back 1 day this time he ended up in the helicopter since that's where he was several hours before waking up in the military base, but because the Omega died all of the other Mimics died as well, so Cage was able to restart the day but the Mimics stayed dead. And, if Cage ever dies again he'll restart the day since he still has the Omega's power, unless he gets a blood transfusion again.
@abmeraz862 жыл бұрын
Actually no. With the Omega now dead he can longer die and go back to his checkpoint. The Omega, not the mimics, was responsible for sending the Mimics back a day, which is what he did to him at the end. They explain that at the very end of the video. It would be dope if he did have the power, leading to a sequel movie.
@Anathemata2 жыл бұрын
Well it's my understanding the Omega had no ability to reset the day for itself, only the Alpha's and mimics if needed which if the Omega does decide to reset the Alpha's then it obviously is reset too as when they come back it's 24hr's earlier before the Omega died.. I do not think Cage will ever get a second life restart point if he dies in the future. However, lets say he has a son, that son would maybe be an "Alpha" and Cage the "Omega" so Cage would be able to reset the day for his son if he died, and in so doing that reset himself as well. Also maybe the military could transfuse Cage's blood into other soldiers, and they become Alpha's and the same thing would happen there as well if it worked.

I like the idea that this time a female character was not only more experienced in combat but had a stoic nature to accommodate that aspect, revealing how somebody hardened by war would behave. I also like that the male character was the lead but had to be led and rescued often by the female character. Love that brief moment of romance where she learns that he'd been taking her remotely to spend time with her and discovered that she liked 3 sugars but took her own life to try and shock him back into the reality of the war. It was brief and heart-breaking, also very stoic and powerful since it was a decision made by a female and not a male where typically only a male would be this objective in his mission though he had a heart.

@@arbjful That's actually the suit she's wearing doing all the heavy lifting. @fook mi Well no, none of that. It's not a feministic pleasure that I have, it's simply Emily Blunts performance and the choices she made as an actress in that performance that made her character interesting. It was her take specifically that I enjoyed. She wasn't preposterously sexy or sexualised (apart from the ridiculous Hindu push up scene), she was fully clothed and very much stern and stoic leaving the audience no distractions except what she was able to convey without relying cheaply on the beauty of her femininity
@altustalent410 Жыл бұрын
@fook mi This is the issue very much with Hollywood, it usually doesn't represent certain characteristics of humanity fully. In this regard they resisted the typical sexy femme fatale and made her more militant. This is not unusual nor was it rebellious against the norm as stoic and stern women do exist, it's not a distinctly male trait but rather a human trait. If you haven't met a stoic and stern woman then your experience is amazingly limited, such a thing would be impossible as I've met plenty. Women can fight as well, it's not distinctly male to be combative although the physicality will differ drastically and typically women don't fight naturally with tact. What we're seeing specifically is the trained militant female, so there's realism in that because we do have women in militaries and police forces, which is a job that requires a great degree of stoicism and stern temperament because of the nature of the profession and Blunt gives that solemnly without ridiculing it. Her character is briefly shown to have a softer side, which is also excellently done in the brief scene because her softness wasn't overly performed. Females with this manner exist, you're looking purely at the Instagram model and Tik Tok and feministic variety, it's not all that women have to offer. There's more shades

My head canon is that the omega establishes the reset point. Once he got the ability to reset it picks the most strategic time. We know they are aware of cruise having the ability. Sending him to the base locks him for battle which is essential to the Omega's plan to bleed the power out of him. Once that fails and he drops the grenades it wants to reset to a time where he will avoid action, won't have access to blunt's character and will give the omega extra time to strategize again. But dying during the reset killed every mimic making it a mute point.

Cage kills an Alpha and could loop 24 hours because the blood of the Omega continued to exist. However, killing the Omega caused its blood to mingle one LAST time with Cage allowing him to loop one last time, BUT with the Omega now dead and it’s blood obliterated Cage would die a natural death should his life end suddenly

@Looper The last segment doesn't make sense. If Cage doesn't have the power to reset the day independent of the Omega, how does he reset the last time? The Omega died as result of the grenade blast and transmitted death to the other mimics and then, Cage reset the day. Cage is the new Omega and still has reset ability independent of the Omega. He just doesn't control it and has to die in order for it to trigger.

For the information to exist then the event must occur, if the event is averted then there will exist no information to forward to the past thereby rendering the entire process paradoxically void. THIS is time travels flaw all the time. You couldn't possibly remember something that's technically never occurred if you've erased the very event that necessitates the information. Ugh.

No, it's not parallel, but looped. Like a rollercoaster making a loop and coming back down _almost_ right where it would've been (if it had gone straight). Everything is still the same, except for the ones experiencing the time loop. It's a bit like in the book of Harry Potter 3. Everything has already happened, and we just get to see the events from past Harry's POV first (which is what makes him take the actions he takes the second time around), and future Harry later. And it's the combination of both Harry's that keeps the timeline as a whole (loop included) intact. In a sense you can think of it as a rollercoaster trying to find it's way forward, and any time it blindly stumbles into a building or tree, it just creates a loop that shifts it over a few yards and tries again if it's in the clear now. If it still bumps into the same thing (or a new thing) it just adds yet another loop - until it finally finds _a_ path forwards. (of course the "rollercoaster" being a metaphor here; so even with thousands of loops it never runs out of potential energy to convert into kinetic energy, aka it never gets "stuck" halfway in a loop)

My thoughts on the ending. When the Alpha stabs him it is still inside him making him able to "mind jump back". He dies just as he releases the grenades starting his 'jump" at that point you see the Omega Pulse right before it gets blown up, the Omega then tries to "Jump" itself back when it realizes it is going to die but it is too late, the 2 quick "jumps" put Cage back even further.
@geraldkramer47742 жыл бұрын
That or the Omega realized the reset point would have just resulted in this same ending and sent Cage back further in an attempt to get to him before he is infected. Maybe he makes a better decision when talking to the General or the Alpha's know to kill him prior to the UDF invasion.

It is so funny how much of this movie feels and is inspired by video games. It’s simplistic mission of just attack the one control point, the exo suits that were pushed into pop culture by Call of Duty AW, the movie having gun blazing sections and stealth sections, and some of the films shots feel straight out of FPS games or games in general. Not to mention the biggest one being the ability to respawn and use memory to gain further traction in the mission. It’s also similar in games where you might reach a point of no return, which this film has. It’s secretly a video game movie without being a video game movie 😂

that is what i thought too. Omega is being a local general - alpha being a commander but the general still only follows orders from the higher ranking powers. so with the Omega’s death the higher ranking ones rebooted the system once more… though the benefit of this is unclear. i mean the omega remained dead, which means there isnt any benefit for the aliens well except if they dont know about cage that is - so the benefit might be that the death of the omega is hidden away from the humans, and perhaps no tactical information remains with them (except cage) - but normally the enemy would be baffled and would not have the upper hand when they return… or if…

My ending conlusion from what I've understood. Cage initially acquires the ability to reset the day each time he dies after being exposed to Alpha's blood, making him function similarly to an Alpha. The Omega then resets the day each time he dies. At the end of the film, Cage’s blood merges not with an Alpha but with the Omega itself. When he dies in the final battle after detonating grenades that kill the Omega, he resets the day one last time as the alpha is killed. (he acts as the omega) This time, he awakens earlier in the timeline, before being sent to the front lines, as it counts 24h since the death of the omega. As the Omega and all Alphas are now gone, Cage could retain the omega power to reset the day, but there will be no reset option as there are no more alphas left...

The final assault in Paris only makes sense if Cage lied about losing the reset power. As if the only way they had a chance is if everyone treated it like it's their last and only shot. In the transport scene and its subsequent crash, Cage operates as if he has been through it a hundred times, and Rita looks at him with the same look of realization.

This is a very interesting point. I’d also like to mention that cage knowing all of J squads personal details to try and sway them to join the mission is further proof he still had the power. He would’ve had to constantly die for the purpose of gathering Intel on J squad to use to persuade them but it was after he supposedly lost the power that they decided they needed a team. So he either gathered Intel before he lost the power which is unlikely because at the time he wouldn’t have needed it, or he gathered the intel after lying about losing his power.

He did show that he would reset endlessly just to save her. So maybe they succeeded in getting to the museum multiple times but it always led to her dying no matter what. So instead of using the device immediately in the office he changes it to leaving the building... It's like how technically WE as the audience DO miss out on some resets. It's admitted when she asks the "how many times have we been here" when he knows that house so well. But we'd only seen it that 1st time.

Good explanation. My theory is that the creature actually has the ability to explore future time lines, one at a time, until it gets the result it wants which it then allows to continue, collapsing all other wave forms.That gives the creature greater power, but evades the problem of time travel. Thus the creature freezes time while it explores potential futures, only allowing time to flow again when it has the right result.

That is the loophole of the story. She only has less than 24 hours or less to figure that one out. By that time, she is addicted to the power of the time loop and there is no way in hell, she could have come up with a theory that she lost her powers. But if she was injured at the end of the battle of Verdun, then she must have realized that she eventually lost her powers. That transponder thing is another loophole in the story. There are few inevitable problems to the story, but I really enjoyed this movie.

The thing that confused me initially was Cage killed the Omega in Paris seemingly in the dead of night or very early morning (still dark). So 24 hrs prior to that in London should have also been dark, yet he wakes in the early morning sunshine. But I suppose it would be explained that it was dawn when the Omega died and that Cage had been sleeping on the helicopter as the sun was rising.
@Goad_and_Crook2 жыл бұрын
My take. Cage died just before the OMEGA died, so he respawned followed by the OMEGA respawning. My guess is Cage gets a free pass until he dies. Then he respawns whenever the OMEGA respawned. Maybe Paris, five years prior.
@PaulSchober2 жыл бұрын
@@Goad_and_Crook My guess is Cage won't respawn ever again since the Omega is the only being able to affect time, Cage and the Alphas being only peripheral "triggers" that got "memory upgrades" after each iteration making them better generals on the battlefield. I think the Omega exists outside its time loops which is how it can retain memories throughout, and that it automatically "updates" its Alphas memories after each reset. That's why I think the Omega stayed dead. I agree with you that Cage died before the Omega did and reset the day automatically. So why wasn't the Omega "healed" like everyone else in the reset? My guess is that it's unaffected by the resets, and simply succumbed to its injury shortly after the grenades went off, while the universe was reset again, this time to the point where Cage was snoozing on the helicopter 24 hours prior.
@Goad_and_Crook2 жыл бұрын
Obviously there is a SIGMA. The narrator foreshadows this with the “they know we were coming”. I imagine the Alpha had been running life simulations all morning and was as surprised as Cage was to find himself in the command LZ.
@Adamdidit Жыл бұрын
They didn't say it was 24 hours specifically and the time of day he dies varies but the time he wakes always goes back to the same point. So it's likely connected to waking, not to time specifically.
@PaulSchober Жыл бұрын
@@Adamdidit They didn't say 24 hrs, they set "resets the day", and since regardless of when Cage died, he always seemed to return to what seemed like about 24 hrs before his first death on the beach, which was on the pile of bags in handcuffs. Seems to me that waking up on the helicopter at the end was 24 hrs prior to dying above the Omega.

The reason why Cage woke up in a helicopter in the last scene was cause he gained the omegas ability to manipulate time after it passed to him in the water, i do believe that cage died in that water (just like when he tried to drown himself when he got setup) but since he's the new omega he can manipulate time to go back more further than before every time he died but unlike on omegas power that only works with an help of alpha that does not work that way for him. And the reason why he was trapped at the specific time before was cause the omega sets a 'starting point' through time, since like i said omega has a time manipulation ability to go back to it.

That does not explain why - even though he resets to a time before he killed the Omega - the Omega is already dead and the signal from it that led all Mimics to die was sent. Before he or anyone did anything. What's the original point of this reset if it (magically) contains the consequences of the day that happened afterwards (except now it won't). It just seems really flawed to me to introduce such an unnecessary time / logic paradox at the last minute of the movie. What for? Saving the world was enough?
