Phyllis Thaxter does an excellent job of portraying an alcoholic and how they try to fight off the desire to drink but their perception of reality becomes so skewed and they go haywire and fall back into drinking. Excellent depiction of a troubled woman who met her match in a man who was also an alcoholic. Fatal mistake.

Airdate April 22nd, 1956. Part 2. Hitch had pressure to redo his original light outro. So he said, "Ladies and gentlemen, may I just for this once depart from our customary epilogue. Tonight we have brought you a drama based on one of Adela Rogers St. Johns' most powerful stories, with the hope that somewhere, somehow, it will help someone."

Phyllis Thaxter died at 92 years old in 2012 and played Martha Kent in Superman (1978). Always a favorite. Born in 1919, I can only imagine the changes she must have seen in technology and society and people. Like George Burns said, “I have no friends, they all died.” I hope she lived a happy life.

Without a doubt, Phyllis Thaxter was truly one of the great American actresses and highly underrated and under utilized in her two studios. Though she was a leading player at both MGM and Warner Bros, she was always being given the same types of parts though she proved herself time and time again in the complex and dramatic noir roles given the opportunity. Chances are , she might have been up for many of the same roles that were given to the likes of Audrey Totter and also Myrna Loy. In her later roles on television both in these Alfred Hitchcock dramas and in the Twilight Zone she reminds me A LOT of Myrna Loy.

He wasn’t being faithful to her. He immediately abandoned her at the party & then hooked up w/ her rival. It’s tragic that she didn’t just dump the two-timing jerk on the spot and walk out, because he definitely would’ve had affairs on her. He wasn’t noble.
