@@charliemurphy9022 The band is a glorified cover band, ALL of the classic members left or were fired by Schon. You would leave too if you had to work with Neal Schon. Neal has been milking that band's corpse for decades, and no one wants to work with him except people who were in desperate need of money. Schon approaches Mike Love levels of assholedom. Though they may never have anything on the radio again (see also: Styx), the band would be long dead if it weren't for Amel. There is still a big draw to their live shows, and that is where bands make their money anyway. Though Neal is/was a great guitarist, most people listen to Journey for the singer, not the solos. ANY decent guitar player can replace Schon, considering nothing memorable is being written by the band anymore. But not many people could do lead vocals for Journey and make it work.

The first time I've heard Arnel was in Shakeys Pizza in Ali Mall Cubao, Manila. The band name is Ihos he was just a kid with a high pitch voice and I told my friends that one day he will be famous. I live in the Philippines, in every bario r tons of mimics of Steve Perry or Air Supply; n why not, it's a poor country, n most of the people don't have the money to see these famous singers of their favourite songs, so they're being entertained, by their own. An example of that is when Journey came here with Arnel, ticket sells were poor, because the locals were Jouney-ed out, because of the local talents, but im happy for Arnel, he made it work for himself, n when he's not touring with Journey, he's on local shows, n also Apple from Black eyed Peas, doing those variety shows, Kudos guys!

People really forget who Arnel is, they just come to think of him as the new Journey guy. They say he can't replace Steve Perry...well duh who can. No one can replace Steve Perry as Journey lead singer because there's only one that's Steve himself. With that out of the way, no one can replace this guy Arnel Pineda. As far as singing is concern, at least Arnel can sound like Steve from time to time. As for Arnel, I haven't heard one that can replace this guy. Listening to all the covers he belted out in the Philippines, this guy can really cover for many band groups...I'm talking about Gun's n Roses, Bon Jovi, AreoSmith, Sting...the list goes on. This guy was born to sing is all I can say.

Arnel Pinada is known to many US Navy guys of Subic Naval Base Philippines way back in the mid-80's til 1991 (if i'm right). Their band was regular at California Jam Club at Magsaysay Drive Olongapo City where Arnel is the lead vocalist. During those times, a place which is only some few meters away from the main gate of Subic US Naval Base. His band was known as the AMO Band. With his great voice range, he was popular on singing AirSupply, New Wave, Heart, Starship, Nilsson and other mellow/pop/rock songs.

In my opinion Arnel does a fantastic job of being the front man for Journey, and is so close to having the same voice as Steve Perry, but I also have to say that I have to make it clearly understood that I said very close to Steve Perry, because in all reality, there "WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER STEVE PERRY"!!! And he's still the only guy who truly is Journeys voice!!! And evey vocalist that ever was the original voice for any given band, or whatever type of music group it is, but especially in rock and metal music, that original voice can never be replaced with someone else who might happen to sound like the original in any way, shape or form!!! So with that mouthful said, I absolutely do not want to take away from the replacements if they truly are talented people, but whether it's replacing Steve Perry, or whoever, the fact is that no band will ever be 100% the same without their original front man or woman no matter what!!! You said Perry left journey in 2007 but he left on May 7 1998 for the 2nd and last time . Perry left the first time in 1987.

Arnel Pineda came from a tribute band to Journey, in the years between 2007 to present day Journey itself became a tribute band to her own songs, as it said in the video here Neal Schon was impressed by the close voice of Pineda to Steve Perry voice, it is something that i knew already before from other sources, although Neal Schon haven't said that, he was looking for a clone to Steve Perry, today there are 3 clones vocalists of Steve Perry in Journey, Arnel Pineda, Deen Castronovo, and Jason Derlatka, all these three sharing the vocal duties on live shows, it seems that Pineda can't sing some songs properly so Deen Castronovo sing them and what Deen Castronovo can't sing properly Jason Derlatka sing them, Journey of the last 17 years is a tribute band to their own band with clones and clowns in the band, it's a circus, a parody of themselves, such a shame cause i really love Journey untill 2005.
