Well done Vanessa! You are an inspiration to us all. I truly believe that you and Big Buddy have bonded well through thick and thin on this epic adventure. You both made it!. I am greener than a green thing sitting here wishing that I had taken the chance to do just a part of what you have accomplished. That would have had to be quite some decades ago though as I feel I'm almost ready for recycling after the last few years. I may not be able to ride a bike anymore but I sure love watching your adventures on the bike and your unique warts n all presenting style. Whoop whoop! I loved the Blue Peter style camel back water filling bit.

Congrats! I did a lot of extreme things in my 20's and 30's on bikes and bush walking, I understand the addiction. I'm a bit slower now in my 60's, too many broken bones, but I still ride practically everyday, either on my Pan Am or my hotted up 1988 Lowrider sidecar. You have to keep riding. It is tragic when someone dies at a race or rally, so sad.

Yey, keep on riding! Yes it was heart breaking but still we take risks to do the things we love

Awesome job Vanessa. You asked about opinions on this series. No microphone- Could hear you just fine. TMI moments? Nope, just showing the reality of doing a rally. Filming not always pretty? Life never is. Refreshing that you share your experience vs putting on a show. Really liked your "Kit" video and how to stay cool.

You are one h*ll of a fighter, Vanessa! It takes immense strength and determination to do what you (and all the others) did. So much fun to watch your escapades here on video - just following a blip on screen while the race was ongoing didn't give the full picture, even though I could see your speed and the surrounding intense heat and knew it was rough on any human being. Best of all: You had fun, and you can live to tell and continue to inspire others. ⭐

An epic effort indeed! I guess your videos are a very precious resource to anyone who considers going on a rally, for none of the flashy videos ever show the flip side of the coin. Some do show their bruises like Noraly after her nasty crash at the Baja Six days and recently the Dinaric Rally, but that obviously is not even half of it. And yes, you do get back to all. I don't know how you do it, I suspect there's some Pratchettian-Discworld-Magic involved, but you do, and it gives your social media homies the cosy feeling of not just being a follower but a wee bit of a fwendy, and this is smiles and pride inducing and uplifting and more, and all at the same time! So lots of love back atcha, you are a most amazing lass! Pure thunder!!1! 🤗😍

I trained extensively in extreme heat. in Arizona. I would frequently ride up to 6 hours on a mountain bicycle in temps up to 115 F. May I share some tips? 1. Adjust to the heat. My body, it would take 5 to 7 days to acclimate to the heat. At first i would vomit up to days 2 to 3. Then, weakness and nausea. Finally after a week, I'd adapt and my endurance training could begin. 2. Rest is critical to prevent injury. Don't try to do it when you're sleep deprived. 3. Hydration is critical. Dehydration makes muscles and ligaments prone to tearing. Most pro bodybuilders rip these things right before contests when they are dehydrated. 4. Mild headache indicates heatstroke coming on. Stop immediately and douse your head with water. This will literally lower the temperature of your head. 5. Douse your clothes with water and as you bike, the evaporating water will cool your body temperature considerably. When your clothes dry out, douse them again and repeat. Wrapping your head in a wet t shirt tie it around the back like an arab head towel also helps a lot. Never had a heat injury doing this!

Honestly, your wee journey in this series has been... emotional. It seems like it was more significant than the hardships of desert racing :-). Have you ever investigated a Shewee? It's designed to allow women to pee al fresco without needing to moon the local wildlife, & I've heard nothing but good reports, as long as users practiced before trying to use it for real...
@TheGirlOnABike Жыл бұрын
Yeah I have but on a rally bike I really don't have space for a plastic cup. You still have to pull your trousers down so doest really save anything other than the squat and then requirea carry a pee covered thing haha
@fat_biker Жыл бұрын
@@TheGirlOnABike Oh! I just googled Shewee [my search history is going to be fun] & it's suddenly got huge... when did that happen? It used to be a little plastic funnel for festival goers, not a two handed wind instrument! The one I was thinking of you can use standing up while dressed... more dodgy searches on KZbin says the one I was thinking of was called the 'pstyle' - google it for some reviews, but it's basically a glorified plastic gutter that you can shove in through the flies of your trousers, rinse with a squirt of water, & karibiner in its little bag onto the back of your pack. If the videos are to be believed...

Hi there! Loved your post about protecting your butt. Just wanted to give you some advice back: try not wearing cotton underneath your cycling pants. The cotton actually stores moisture and makes things worse. I used to mountainbike a lot, and that would be the main thing any push bike person will give you as advice to prevent rash (pedaling it's mainly the rubbing on the upper inside of your legs you need to worry about cause they are constantly moving opposite ways) Thanks for sharing those insights again, hope to help you to perform even better! Ride safe!
