I bought 3 dozens of bottled lime water from Vietnam (because it’s tasted pretty unique and I loved it). I’m lucky the officer let it go through, he asked for one bottle tho, and said the drinks come from his hometown so he totally understand why I loved it so much.

Just like any other place you work and also steal from; your fired for “lack of candor”. Stealing speaks to your integrity, depending on what it is you’ll be criminally prosecuted. But what’s worst is you’d disqualify yourself from working in the government having been fired for stealing. TSA agents are no different than any other agency if the opportunity presents itself and the risk/ reward is there people of any positions or rank will steal. This isn’t exclusive to TSA. Humans fill these positions and steal no matter what agency they work for. You see the stories all the time of people in power stealing. It’s happens in all levels of all agencies their are bad apples. It’s not exclusive TSA agents.

@@MattM0201 ["they're fired"] I'd never seen the word "fired" used as a synonym for "promoted". Only half joking; they're unionized and wear a make believe police uniform; they'll be "promoted" to paid leave while they're investigated for several months, and be won't be required to repay those funds even if later fired, tried and convicted. Theft would be rewarded with more theft.

The problem is the existence of a special process. An unloaded firearm in checked baggage is no hazard to anyone and doesn't warrant any diversion from the usual procedure that would be followed for someone checking a 6" hunting knife. Transporting ammunition I can see such a process, as it could be considered hazardous and subject to cooking off in a fire.

Some nail clippers have a blade on it with a point like a small pocket Swiss Army knife or an expensive wine bottle opener…if it was that design it falls under the knives rule. Knives of any size are prohibited. I do see your frustrations though, a would be terrorist or disgruntled passenger isn’t going to do much damage if any with it. If you disagree with something an agent takes ask to speak to a supervisor be calm and nice they have the digression to permit certain items. Sadly most TSA don't even know their own rules. Me and friends frequently travel with airsoft guns and read the rules on how to store but they always freak out and make us treat them like firearms. We aren't allowed to bring batteries or gas for them so even if we wanted we can't use them and we only fly with ones with orange tips. We get so much trouble for obeying posted rules it's annoying.

@@lucasgillard67 firearms are prohibited through a security checkpoint unless your a working LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER on duty. Period. You’re misinformed. You’re referring to checked luggage. Thats what I said at the end (checked luggage) in order for a regular traveling passenger who wants to travel with a firearm you must stored it underneath the airplane; unloaded in a locked box. It must be declared (giving notice to the airline) that it’s in your CHECKED LUGGAGE and the bullets can be in the same case as the firearm, however the bullets just have to be secured in a box not loose in the bag or gun case. ONLY working current Law enforcement officers have exemptions in which they provide the appropriate paperwork for said firearm. If you try to to do what your saying you’ll definitely be arrested and fined on a federal level, depending on the state and if you licensed to carry will determine if you arrested on state charges.

One day I complimented her on a piece of jewelry she was wearing… a necklace I think, and she told me it was something her dad had confiscated at work and that it was one of the perks of the job. I wonder if the rules changed, (this would have been over a decade ago,) or if maybe her dad was just corrupt, or if she either lied or misunderstood the situation? Like maybe he just bought it from the surplus or something but just told her he got it from work, and she assumed?

I actually went through the airport many years ago. I had at Lear 25 lighters in one part of my very large purse. The airport employee asked me if these were okay to use. I told him that I hadn’t cleaned out that part of my purse in a long time and forgot they were there. He asked me if I minded if he took them. I said sure, I’m glad your getting some use out of them.

Weapons can be checked in unloaded and locked as long as you take it to TSA when you check in, it only depends on what state you are going to and you can't take them out of usa

Firearms can be check through on airlines. I'm active duty military and fly with weapons often. An average citizen can check a firearm as long as it is locked in a case and no ammo is in the firearm.

How is it literally not considered stealing when the TSA makes you hand over something like a $300 knife (because a lot of high end pocket knives can cost this much or more) but they never give it back to you.

TSA never takes anything from anyone. You have options …… 1. You can put that item in your checked luggage underneath the aircraft. 2. You can return to your car and secure it there, give it to a friend, family member or stranger out side of security seeing you off. 3. Mail it to yourself. Some airports have companies that will mail your prohibited item to you. 15-35$ Or finally 4. you can voluntarily surrender it to TSA. TSA will do YOU the favor of disposing the item for you.
