We sneak a banana in nkw and then. I dont think you habe to be 100% keto. I preach that meat, greens ans low carb fruits (berries, grapefruit, passion fruit) are the only real food. Kids pack on fat just before they have a growth spurt so don't worry about it. My best friends brother got really chubby around 14/15 and then had a growth spurt from his 5'3" to 6'4" in about 8 months . . . had his parents worried about his fat and made him adjust, he wouldn't have had what he needed to grow that much . . . so be careful.

Most of the time she eats 2 meals that include some veggies, protein and fats. We use monkfruit as sweetner. We have protein bars if she wants a snack sometimes. Megha, I agree 100% with you regarding sweeteners. If I restrict myself to sweetened foods, no matter if they’re considered Keto-friendly, to just one or two fresh berries (sliced up to prolong their departure from my plate) but small-portions of homemade chocolate pudding or custard with a few items (like homemade cookie crumbles or even better, a few salted, chopped nuts) work great for that texture you’re wanting instead of thinking you’re eating baby food. Have either of you ever tried making your own clotted cream? I know, the name is somewhat revolting, but seriously, please try it. You’ll be, like me, quickly addicted as it can easily transition from a great low-carb scone topping to standing in for cream cheese on that slice of frittata or omelet to subbing in easily for sour cream for your homemade enchiladas or tacos. I’ve used it as a trade for mayo for various salads (tuna, chicken, etc.) to combining with hot sauce for an alternative to Sriracha Mayo on those slices of sashimi. Heavy cream (I use the entire half-gallon carton - 40% milk fat from Dairygold here in the Pacific NW) in an oven-safe dish. Place the dish in a 320 degree Fahrenheit oven for 1 hour (or 30 minutes if you’re only using a quart) then cool on your counter for 20 minutes before placing in your ‘fridge for 4 hours at minimum. Using a large, sharp-edged serving spoon, scrape just the top layer of the now risen and solid fat from the surface of the baking dish. That’s your clotted cream. You can whisk it into a smooth cream or simply place in a canning jar and turn it upside down before placing in your ‘fridge to keep it as fresh as possible for as long as possible. I’ve had a pint jar last six (6) days inverted to prevent oxygen from causing the cream to turn sour...obviously, if you like sour cream, for even longer). The “whey” or separated liquid will be SO INCREDIBLY SWEETH and smooth. That’s what I use for my Creme Anglaise for my custards, puddings and ice cream base. Flavor as you want, place in small containers and refrigerate. I top with clotted cream, sliced berries and a drizzle of ChocZero chocolate syrup to accompany a fresh cup of black coffee or tea for an after dinner treat. On another topic, thank you, Megha for advising your feelings on carrying. As a former police officer and having worked in law enforcement/criminal law legal field for most of my life, I found your explanation of how carrying makes you feel as a woman and a mother was perfectly and profoundly articulated. Matt, my friend, you hit the nail on the head with regard to “prepping”. If you have not had an opportunity to read the “Deep Winter” series by Tom Sherry, I encourage you to do so. Yes, the books are $30 each from Amazon. I reached out to Mr. Sherry via his blog and received his permission to read his books aloud online. That is what I’ve been doing for the past couple of weeks but I gave myself a hiatus for a few days after receiving something in the mail that truly helped me focus on what matters in my life right now: my husband. The mail was my 11/18/2017 pathology report stating that all of the tumors in my breast and side had been diagnosed as scar tissue. Dead. No sign of disease. I was diagnosed on 04/18/2017 with HER2+ Inductal Carcinoma, Stage 3, Class C...one small step from terminal. When your oncologist looks you in the eye and tells you that he’s happy to sign off on curative treatment instead of palliative care orders, it’s life-changing. So, back to my point, if you want to follow a story that changed my prepping life back in 2010 by reading Mr. Sherry’s first two books “Deep Winter” and “Shatter”, that really drives home the point of preparedness for what may come. His books, while fictionally based, have incredible information. He’s a true Christian and just wants the message spread about knowing this life is temporary, that our true home is elsewhere but while we are here, we should do our best to protect ourselves, our families, and our neighbors as best we can. If you want to listen to my horrible narration (yep, I’m really selling it, aren’t I?), feel free to listen to the first book that I recorded live on FB in our guest room with the aid of a kerosene lantern. It’s COLD here in the PNW and that Aladdin provides both light and the warmth of a 700watt light bulb. May God Bless you, Megha, Theo and your families. Take care and yes, #KetoStarvesCancer, #MeatHeals 🙏❤️🌸🥓🍳🧈🥩🍖🍗🧀🥑🥦🥬🍆🥒🧄🧅🫑🫐🍓

Ok, early to the post! Having a pre-teen and a 17 old, the older started having keto as a regular thing along side us. Out youngest is hopelessly addicted to sugar, and so we limit the processed stuff that is allowed in the house. But for my wife and I, we have see-saw’d in weight due in large part to undisciplined outlook in Keto being too restrictive. Led to a slide back into alcohol and carbs. Thanks for reminding us of why we chose to do Keto in the first place. Bravo!
