Thanks, been hammering about the ball issue. Remeber the first pink ball Test in Adelaide, longest inning was 72.1 and then none more than 65. It seemed nobody knew how the ball would behave. India didn't expect a rank turner, did they. One could argue they only selected (and bowled) 2 frontline spinners. Not waht you would do when you expect an indian turner.

Well, personally, I think the whole pitch stuff has garnered a lot of false media attention. I think it's pretty obvious what happened. India wanted a pitch like the Chennai one and the curators tried their hardest to replicate it. But one thing they didn't account for was the SG pink ball. Unlike the red ball, it skidded on straight due to the difference in the texture of the outer covering. It didn't seem intentional and, following this quite average display of Test match cricket, the Indian team management would ensure that this doesn't happen again in order to keep Test cricket alive in India.

@@sampathkaushik89 I think it also has a lot to do with the fact that Rohit's back foot play is better than other players in the current Indian team. Very interesting video with some nice insights again Jarrod. Excellent point made with regards to the DRS. Was wondering why the commentators didn't mention it during commentary. Well, there were no craters tbh. And i totally differ from the opinion that it was a bad pitch. Certainly was a challenging one but not a bad one in my opinion. A pitch should be called bad only when it's dangerous. And Ahmedabad one wasn't dangerous at any point. Just needed better application from batsmen of both the side to score runs
@aviralsharma77443 жыл бұрын
@@mohitwardhan4878 Well I also don't really accept the fact of pitch being bad but certainly extremely spinning or damaged pitch is a game changer. Well I don't agree by the fact of a dangerous uneven bouncing pitch to be only unfit, I think the definition of unfit needs to be updated by adding over spinning or deteriorating pitch with cracks or too much depressions. I think this can be a factor too and the curator knows better, he should be enquired but I think this was overall a mixture of everything. I mean WHAT IF England batted well against the spin or India batted bad than the performance, If England had won would the world accept this fact or the Indians pointing the pitch would have done it ? It's all about a perspective of oneself to either blame the pitch or blame the performance or have a percentage of both by just accepting what just happened. But definitely ICC needs to venture into the facts of how pitches need to be designed or made. I think the home advantage can not be converted into a monopoly wherever the place is.

The Mad Test The pitch assisted turn but the pink ball tends to skid through. The ball stays low but also bounces high enough to go beyond the hawk eye frame. Rohit thinks the pitch was ok to bat on, Kohli thinks batters didn’t defend well and Root thinks the pink ball was a factor. India choose to go with spinners and England with pacers. The end result is a 2-day Test Match more thrilling than T20s yet considered bad for Test Cricket.
@maiyankasinha8323 жыл бұрын
So the real culprit was Pink ball + Motera pitch. I felt the bounce on this pitch was more consistent and low (compared to the Chepauk pitch). Though the Hawkeye @6:37 tells a different story. Had this been a Red ball Test, I think we would have seen 5 more sessions. Whatever be the case, will BCCI prepare such a pitch with Lyon in opposition or against Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. Probably No. Day-Night Tests were to bring more viewership. Last two such Test matches in India have produced less than 5 days of play. This is bad advertisement of Pink ball Test.

We need to discuss the pink ball here. The ball akidding straight on definitely had something to do with it. Can't see the match ending within 3 days, had it been a red ball game.
@JarrodKimberYT3 жыл бұрын
I mean we can't know that, but it's a fascinating thing. I should point out that many of the pink ball games in INdian FC cricket were draws. So it's not as if the pink ball has been doing this in India before.
@abhinavnair7903 жыл бұрын
@@JarrodKimberYT But for how many of those pink ball fc games did they actually have a dry turner? I think this is one of the first if not the first pink ball game that we got to witness on a dry turner. I think nobody knew how it's going to behave in conditions like these. There were times when the stock ball, even from Ashwin, just didn't spin and skidded straight on. This inconsistency and unpredictability in turn perhaps might have been the real challenge for the batsmen. A rank turner generally will spin consistently. It can have variable bounce, yes, but variations in the degree of turn to the extent that we saw in this game? I don't think that's really possible. This indeed is very fascinating.

It was definitely a difficult pitch to bat on but imo in no way a 2 day pitch. It was just this perfect storm of the pink ball skidding more than the red ball and not getting softer as the red one does after 25 overs, the batsmen not having enough practice on turning tracks ( there was no Ranji Trophy20-21, so none of the Indian batsmen were prepared either). Most of the times the scoring areas on turning tracks are square of the wicket, where you cut and pull the short ball and sweep the length ball. Whereas in this game the scoring areas should have been extra cover to mid on to the balls pitched short. If you try to play square or your head falls off you will be trapped leg before as kept happening.

There was no uneven bounce. Its not like the pitch was breaking apart so much to where it was unplayable. It was just spinning. Why cant we have a spinning pitch? Like this guy said, it was more the pink ball skidding than anything.
@JarrodKimberYT3 жыл бұрын
There was uneven bounce. I tracked it all game. It was worse with the seamers (for all 17 balls they bowled), but there was definitely inconsistence bounce. We can have a spinning pitch. I mean we don't really have a choice, it spins in Asia.

Hard to find fault with your analysis, Jarrod, but you did miss one point. All said and done, England lost 20 wickets for 193 runs, and India lost 10 wickets for 194 runs. So this was NOT a case of "both teams found it equally difficult." To me it seems to show a big difference in batting and bowling skills. Factor in that England won the toss and that Rohit, Ajinkya, Rishabh and Ashwin were all still trying to score a lot of runs on the morning of the second day instead of playing balls on the merit, and my point becomes clearer. Perhaps if India had batted more patiently and scored around ~250 runs and England had suffered an innings defeat we wouldn't be talking so much about the pitch.
@JarrodKimberYT3 жыл бұрын
No, I skipped the second innings because a chase of 49 is not a proper innings. And I never said both found. it equally difficult, they both found it difficult. India averaged 14.5 per batter in that first innings, and that was with Rohit playing well. I have no problem with the fact India is better, I think they're making that clear.

It's called "The Test" for one fuckin' reason. A test of technique, patience, partnerships and character. Not a fuckin' one sided game where the bowlers have to actually keep toiling for 100+ overs waiting for the batting side to declare. We've seen enough of the batsmen dominating bowlers in ODIs and T20s. It's about time the bowlers get to show their game, break some bones, let the balls and not the bat, do the talking!

Yeah, it was like a perfect storm with the pitch and the pink ball. This pitch was bad, but I have a feeling that it would have seen better scores than Chennai's on a full day-red ball combo. Makes me also wonder what tests do the ICC conduct on new balls before they are commissioned. Do they have certain measures of - I don't know - friction through the air or off a standardized pitch that need to be met other than the obvious ones like weight and circumference?
@JarrodKimberYT3 жыл бұрын
I don't think they look at it that scientifically, which is part of the problem. Yeah, would be really interesting so see what the red ball did here, I think it still would have bounced odd and spun a lot, but the straight ball wouldn't have been kryptonite.
