@@Nick-qf7vt idk music doesn’t matter I can’t stand instrumental guitar solos like EVH not to take away from his musical genius. I just didn’t like the mainstream 80’s style of rock n roll. But I like the singer songwriters like Dylan and Young. Also like a Johnny cash type of person. When they make a song it could be a complete throwaway but it still has something about it that just is a step above all the noise in their music to me. It’s all about personal taste and what you like. But EVH was just a guitar player(not average) just didn’t really grab my attention listening to Vanhalen at all just. I didn’t really care for an hair metal besides like GNR and that was only for songs like My Michelle. Not saying any of it isn’t good music just not my taste.

It's funny that Roger mentioned Eddie Van Halen and not being interested in his music or rock music in general. Eddie was the same way as he was always busy with his own music. Eddie did think Peter Gabriel's song Red Rain was brilliant as he brought it up in one of his last interviews before he passed away. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

EVH really validated my sense of taste when he said that about Peter Gabriel. “So” is a great album.
@darrint35737 ай бұрын
Difference being, EVH had an open mind and actually listened to other artists. Roger criticized 2 classic hard-rock bands without giving them a thorough listen. Had he criticized today's horrible music no one would fault him. The ears do not differ much when it comes to catchy pop/rock. Roger's logic in choosing those 2 bands makes about as much sense as his 20+ year crusade against Israel. BTW, Floyd had plenty of songs that can be categorized as Hard-Rock.
@georgevanderlaan50286 ай бұрын
@@darrint3573 Thank you, finally someone said it. It's well documented EVH enjoyed many other artists including Allan Holdsworth, AC/DC, Cream, The Ventures, I could go on and on. EVH was a musician. Roger Waters is more of a political provocateur/message songwriter, more of a poet that happens to pluck on a guitar now and then. Note that Roger's favorite artists, 'that end of the spectrum' does not include any instrumental music. It's all message with him. Even during his time with Pink Floyd, Roger simply did not care about doing more than one take or honing a part to get it just right, whereas David Gilmour did very much. Because in Roger's mind, the actual performance of the song is secondary, it's not necessary to the message and therefore does not deserve as much attention.

Artists rarely listen to peers or what comes after, EVH loved Clapton and a few of the stuff from the 60s but he probably hated Punk, dismissed Prince, thought Heavy Metal was a joke and i doubt EVH liked Motley crue and Glam LA poser metal.
