I did A level history! found the essay style so difficult at first and the discussion side of the subject - I got an A* in the end but the effort I had to put in was so immense. Far harder than maths and physics

As someone doing GCSE History, you 100% need the facts!! No matter how good your essay is no DEPPS (Specific facts) you loose marks. If you don’t use them you can’t get a 7/8/9.
@namename81206 жыл бұрын
I'm not going to lie I was lost the whole year, getting a 4 in mocks, constantly overwhelmed by the whole course I revised well on how to answer the questions from this teacher in my school who wasn't mine but was soooo good Then I learnt main overview fact and random dates as I only had a few days until the test Also this guy from old gcse on youtube (podcast) helped me soo much on the Germany paper! You can use them that are awesome! Anyway I somehow got a 9?? Im so shocked but thats how I barely revised throughout the year, didn't know any dates nor did practice questions constantly
@justrhiannon6 жыл бұрын
Yes for gcse you definitely need to know facts but facts aren’t as important as having a good judgement and opinion at a level :) xx

This video was really interesting as I'm doing the 9-1 Edexcel history GCSE and from what you described, it seems like a scaled down version of the A-level. Some questions are just about knowledge but most involve sources, interpretations and constructing an argument. There is quite a lot of content but I've made flashcards as I go along and just learned them. I do plan on doing A level history and I think I'd have to do mindmaps for that because there's too much content to rely on flashcards.
@jadelauren22696 жыл бұрын
Everyone who took history at school always complained about the workload! That kinda put me off. Although the subject itself is very interesting x
@ttwiig6 жыл бұрын
The new GCSE sort of includes your own opinion, like the big questions are opinion based, you just sort of have to give both sides of an argument but then come to your own conclusion. You can get high marks with little facts in the writing, but some questions rely on you including your own knowledge to access higher marks. For example, an 8 mark question on one paper would require you to use your own knowledge to get 7/8 marks, but you could still get around 6 marks with a good answer but no extra stuff. I ended up getting a 9 in history (edexcel). 148/168 marks so not to bad.

I did Edexcel 2018 exams. History is undoubtably a hard subject but I found completing your notes well in advance of Easter and then sing that time for essay planning really helped. Also the course has a number of themes- so for each topic do a plan where you write the introduction in full (criteria) and then 3 paragraphs in bullet point structured form and then finally the conclusion. Is time consuming but useful as I found a lot marks are awarded for STRUCTURING an argument- Especially source questions which I found the hardest. Hope it helps anyone!
