www.audiolabs-erlangen.de/resources/MIR/FMP/C1/C1S3_Dynamics.html To sum it up They use something called Threshold of Hearing. at 0 decibels you have 1 threshold of hearing. at 1 decibel you have 10 thresholds (so it's x10), at 2 decibels you have 100 thresholds (so it's another x10) etc..
