Wow, never saw this comment until Brian replied to it. And he's basically right (coming from someone born and raised in Cali). They passed a law (AB5) that mandates how 1099 truckers have to be paid and it's completely not in line with how OTR trucking works. Many fleets have pulled out of CA because of it and last I heard, they're looking at pulling or revising the law, but TBH, I haven't been keeping up on it.

Been there buddy. The worst ones I went to was Connecticut. They were so dang rude at the subway. Down in Carolina they have dressing packets with their salad they sale. She cussed my wife out and asked why do all of us people in the south think they do that and not the dressing from the bar in the bottles. Crazy man. Stay safe driver

I find the travel plaza food options to be even more expensive than the overinflated truck stop prices.
@JJtheTrucker4 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are. They know there's nowhere else to go. That's why I take advantage of the free showers, and at least the laundry is a lot cheaper.
@missy40424 жыл бұрын
I've always pictured the showers as a row of stalls, so glad that's not the case! I am not sure about this year, but normally, starting in April, PA 76 Service plaza MM 172 E&W bound (Sideling Hill) has a farmers market in the pk'ing lot. Pick up some fresh veggies and fruit. I would like to think that other Service plazas have that as well. Stay safe driver!
@JJtheTrucker4 жыл бұрын
Same here about the showers. That'd be terrible. So far no farmers markets this year. Hopefully they'll be back next year.

Vending machines are for introverts like me. If I just want a candy bar and I don't want to talk to anyone (and I don't), we introverts are who those vending machines are for.

intresting to see there are other options to the large truck stops,over here in the UK most truck stops are charging £25 /31.50 DOLLARS a night to park and you can use the showers but not a patch on those you showed , keep the vogs coming

Because of your great info and positive thoughts I’m seriously considering the lease purchase option since I have the financial stability to do so

Excellent, especially if you're OK financially. Here's another reason. I delivered to a bad part of Philly yesterday. No way I'm going to deliver there again. As a company driver, too bad. No choice. As a lease driver, I can turn down loads. I generally don't, but I've turned down 2 for good reasons. Just knowing I can turn down that load in the future if needed, is a huge relief.

@@JJtheTrucker Yes I agree I never liked driving the bus in Washington DC and did that alot. I wont mind going into a city as long as I can get out of it quickly LOL. My recruiter is working with me have all mt DOT physical done and ready. My appointment with VA DMV is Monday the 22ond hopping I will be in Springfield Monday the 29th I'm so excited to start this new chapter. Being a single man no kids my brother will be taking care of my house. Plan is to more or less just live out on the road with the truck

That's nice. Thanks for the tour. I'm about to pull the trigger on a new career in trucking and have narrowed it down to 2 places, Prime being the most likely. Do you know where I can go to get information on Benefits? Thanks. I saw the video of you in Dallas (my stomping grounds) where you showcased your truck. You can tell you take a lot of pride in it and you should, it's really set up nice.

Hey Frank, I hope you choose Prime. I'm really happy with them. For benefits info, you'll want to speak with a recruiter. The options are different for company vs owner/op. Go to driveforprime.com/?r=PAUJAJ There's a number there to call a recruiter. If you sign up, tell them JJ Paulson (Driver Code PAUJAJ) sent you.

@@JJtheTrucker You got it man. I really think Prime is it. Their Training time in a truck is longer than most and it's difficult to think about spending that much time in those close quarters with someone else. But at the same time, I know when I'm done with it I'll be ready for the road.

@@JJtheTrucker Well, I contacted Prime thru your link because I decided they were the company I was going to go with. Then I called the number they told me to. About 20 minutes later I got an email saying that they weren't hiring from my area (I live in Fort Worth, TX). I can't say that I wasn't disappointed but hey, I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. I've done quite a bit of research and I contacted Roehl Transportation and they will hire me from this area. I've heard great things about their school and when you're in your trainers truck there is no team dispatch, they are in the passenger seat the whole time. They're CDL school is highly rated and they teach you on a manual transmission so you don't have to get the auto trans restriction on your license. Anyway, thanks for your help and keep the videos coming man. They have been instrumental in me making my decision to get on the road.
@JJtheTrucker4 жыл бұрын
Frank, I'm really sorry to hear that about Prime. There are certain areas that they don't hire from, but is just a few places. I am very glad to hear about Roehl. There were on my final 3 list when choosing a company to work with. They have a lot of great benefits and I haven't heard anything bad about them from the Roehl drivers I've spoken with. I'm glad you found them and I wish you the best of luck. 👍

JJ,Hey driver are you lease ? If you are how long do you stay out? Thx JJ.
@JJtheTrucker4 жыл бұрын
Hey Big Dog, yeah I'm lease. For me, since I basically live in the truck, no wife or kids, I stay out quite a bit. I take days off here and there while I'm out. As for actual vacation time, I have 2 full weeks planned this year. I'll bump it up to 3 or 4 weeks next year. Most lease drivers with a family choose to go home for a few days a month or every other month. Depends on how well you're managing your money to afford the time off while still making the truck payment.

They're supposed to, but you'll want to check. I bring in my own clorox wipes and wipe everything down at all the truck stops, even if they've been cleaned already. Can't be too safe right now.
