As a collector i loved meeting Stan and getting my books signed. He is a legend. I would buy his signature books anyday.

If you want a 9.8 major key you don’t want it defaced with a signature. Add signatures to lower grade books to boost value.

On the Iron Man Stan Lee Signed 9.8 - I think it didn’t get added value as he wrote right over the iconic BIG PREMIERE ISSUE banner and made it unreadable. Placement was terrible. The other that sold he used a silver pen and was able to write in the black area so it didn’t make the banner unreadable. I was bidding but dropped as I much preferred the location on the other that did not detract from the Big Premiere Issue

thanks, this was a great video and very insightful. Did you have any view on the sales of the CBCS Showcase #4 and Batman #1 that were also sold on the Comiclink auction?

Great video, I enjoy this comparison content. I noticed in this ComicLink auction they also sold 2 copies of Special Marvel Edition #15’s both in CGC 9.8 WP for approx $3,800 & $3,700 in consecutive order! Would’ve liked to see the comparison on those books! 😮

I was hoping someone would break it down like you did, thanks for the analysis. Surprised that iron man 1 went for that, it had two added rarities with the pedigree and the Stan Lee signature so someone got a great deal honestly. The pedigree alone commands a higher price. For lower priced keys, in the $300-$500 range, a Stan signature almost doubles and triples the value.

I have a Stan Lee and John Romita signed 4.5 asm 50. I like the Romita signature on a book that is a key for people collecting romita’s work. I don’t like anyone signing my grails though! Just like the book to stand on its own and have nothing obscure the book.

I like Stan’s signature on lower-graded comics below 6.0. As you mentioned, he signed tons of comic over the years. The story is he signed basically any book that was put in front of him. Although he signed so many books, it’s now a finite number. To me, his signature adds more on big keys like AF #15 and FF #1, and the position and quality of the signature are important. The only Stan Lee signed comic I have is a Sub-Mariner #46 CGC 7.5 that would be worth only about $100 but is worth around $300 with the signature.

To each their own, but for me the only signed books I am interested in are the books where I met the artist in person and had them sign something. I want a signed book to be a souvenir of an experience I had.

Great show as always mate! Just for the record you can add me to the blue label group! I view comic covers as art and prefer them to remain unblemished! Cheaper for me in the long run I guess!

I was at one of my lcs' one day, oh around 2018 I think and I was about to check out and this customer ahead of me signed off on his purchase and then I put my stuff on the counter. The guy running the counter started laughing as he was looking at the previous customers card receipt and I was like, "What's funny?", and he showed me a perfect Stan Lee sig on the receipt that customer wrote on there! Before it was the guy's short scribble sig to make it a legit sale. He said he does that all the time. But it looked like a dead on SL sig!

If Im buying five-figure books today, I'm definitely looking at GPA before bidding. Of course, nice presenting books will attract stronger bids. Like any collectible, a comic is worth what someone is willing to pay. You can get lucky at an auction where there aren't that many strong bidders and get a steal.

I got Stan to sign my Daredevil 1 in front of me, along with my friend's AF 15 that came back half a grade lower than when I submitted it. I mentioned to Stan I worked on the first X-men movie as a storyboard artist. He said that was great and slid the book across the splintered table toward me. Ugh.

I love the signature-series. That being said, I'm not paying extra for a stan lee sig unless it's on a book he wrote

So...I know who many of these signature books came from. Former customer of mine, I was getting books signed for him, until he very recently told me he was liquidating his collection through ComicLink. He gave me his CLZ log-in, in order to know what books he still needed, so I'm confirming some of these books from his collection as you go over them. lol

Who got a Venom #1 signed? I'll never understand why people had Stan Lee sign books that he had no creative input on.
