I support TM Krishna for his bold move to bring Carnatic music to a wider audience.He had tried to bring lot of changes in the lyrics which include the words of great social reformers like Periyar,Narayana Guru and others.He broke the traditions of music.So it is quite natural that traditionists protest that they think it will shake Brahminical supremacy.Music is for all.

If you say Ilayaraja, msv, and old music directors has taken Carnatic music to a wider audience I agree. First of all this art for is not enjoyed by all type of audience. One nation,one music rule cannot be applied in India. Many like cine music, Only a minority like carnatic music. That minority consists mostly of Brahmins and a few other castes. Most Christians like western. Taste differs. Let Brahmins flourish in carnatic style. What's wrong? Let others follow their type. Why Criss cross and intervene? Here's why your premise itself seems flawed: Among others, why shouldn't the music academy select whomever they see fit to be awarded? And why shouldn't the timing be now? And why should it not make a political statement? For afterall political choices are made to be consequential! Besides, if TMK as an insider of the higest rungs of the carnatic music ladder finds a bias, then on what basis are you so tritely dismissing his charge. Your point firstly mixing politics to music itself is wrong. Then how can a fair decision be taken or a deserving candidate be chosen . It's clearly seen that they are using Carnatic music and this situation as a tool to get some Hindu votes to favor the party which TMK is supporting. How long do these guys survive by using the same old strategy( Brahmin opposition) and deceive people. This is the time we need to speak aloud d and say carnatic music is for everyone. No one is protecting from others. There are many teachers out there who can teach this musical form. But if anyone tries to shake the very core value of this art form ( bakthi) it's like they are misusing the knowledge .
