Turkey has so many famous LGBT people as singers, actors, athletes, poets, literary figures, etc for ages. They have their own shows on the TVs. Even some of their dating life was in the magazine shows. So many of them were revered by Turkish public. In Ottoman Empire, LGBT activities were quite open. Famous people had same sex lovers. This was the same in Roman times and in ancient Greek times in this land. Abrahamic religions of Christianity and Islam now could not suppress those traditions for thousands of years. Today's government is temporary! Even famous LGBT people were invited to the special dinners of the today's president of Turkey. The elite tried to apply Evangelical Christian backwardness from USA to Turkey, but it won't stick!

You are definitely Turkish, yes sir, we are very advanced sir. We are secular sir. My friend, yes, when it comes to celebrities, people respect them. There is a certain limit, Kerimcan does not hear, how many times has he been attacked in our country? Millions of transgender people have been victims of terrible murders. Religiousness and bigotry still continue heavily in our country. Türkiye is perhaps the best of the worst compared to Russia and Middle Eastern countries, but for an LGBT individual, it is hell.

As a Turkish listener, I listened to your podcast but there were some points that I had difficulty understanding. The flag you shared is the first time I have heard the discussion about the flag seen at 00:28. I have not witnessed any discussion about this flag in Turkey. We are not even aware of the existence of this flag. Turkey's first criticism of the Olympics was about the strange show at the opening ceremony where we did not understand what kind of message it was trying to give and what it was trying to symbolize. Even from the point where we do not have the same worldview as Erdoğan, this opening ceremony did not mean anything to the Turks like the rest of the world and we found it cringe. In addition, who exactly is this broadcast addressed to? The video includes languages such as Russian, English, and Turkish, but even the English subtitles do not progress harmoniously and the sections that I think you mostly reference are not even related to the relevant parts. Who is your target audience? If you are addressing a global audience that is fluent in English, why didn't you share the English subtitles of the resources in other languages that you added to your podcast in foreign languages? You are right in the section you made for Ebrar Karakurt and the section you made on behalf of the government, but as much as you shared, you did not mention the policies and oppression created by the people and Erdoğan's government in the unnecessary polemics around Ebrar Karakurt, and the endless love and support given to Ebrar in society.

The Olympics is meant to be a sporting event bringing people from all over the world together. The ceremony should reflect this. Its shouldnt be used as a platform to promote any agenda. Regardless on where you sit on this debate it wasn't appropriate content . It also wrongly portrays people in the gay community as over sexualised and perverted which couldnt be further from the truth. There is a line as to whats appropriate for children and men in g strings from any background is not that.

Conservatives are foolish because they do not understand that the only constant thing is change. When I examine the history that extends to Turkey, which continues from the Ottoman Empire, we actually see that Westernization began during the reign of Mahmud II, at the end of the Ottoman period, with the Hat Law and some reforms taking place. These changes were preserved over time, and later, during Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's era, the Hat Law was enacted again, and the people labeled Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as "infidel," just as they did with the sultan, despite the generational changes that made them passive recipients of this transformation. They began to defend the Ottoman fez without realizing it. Today, the fez has become a symbol for neo-Ottomanists. This example I mentioned illustrates how conservatives fail to understand the changes around them.

Most people in Turkey don't care about these issues at all. That also means that most Turkish people, in real daily life, don't go around hating lgbt people. In comparison it's pretty common to hear unembarrassed racist remarks in Turkey. Erdoğan would like this to be a controversial issue but in real life, it isn't. People have bigger problems like rising poverty. The economy is crashing and Erdoğan talks about gays 🧐 Gay people also need to pay their rent. You say lots of gay people want to leave Turkey but that's exactly the same for the population in general, a large percentage are actively planning to leave, especially young people. By the way no one cared about the Olympics opening ceremony, did anyone even watch it here? It's only an example of Erdoğan trying (and failing) to make a polemic about something irrelevant.
