The Hannah/Joe interaction regarding the bum bag had my husband coming over to determine what had caused the raucus laughter! He and I had a similar interaction recently when I applied what I thought was a new lip gloss but was actually a new liquid lipstick. There was a tiny smudge on the corner of my lip that I attempted to brush away and subsequently ended up with Strawberry Kissed all over my chin, cheek, forehead, teeth and t-shirt! I was laughing so hard, I couldn't explain to him what had happened. He calmly let me know that he thought I was probably doing it wrong! :)

Also, I recently put all of my makeup into separate storage. I then envision the look of the day, shop my stash, and whatever I actually use goes back into my active collection. I call this my Rebuilt Boutique experiment. I imagine towards the end, once most things are back, there will be a thing or two I don't want to ever wear again, just like I did with my clothes, and I'll be able to sell/trade/donate again.

Your content makes me happy. You want to put up more fashion videos? Do it. Please. Your style is so elegant and your attitude toward consumerism is refreshing. It gets old hearing "look at these flashy new things I bought that you have to buy too to be happy, links in the description!" You always remind me to shop my own items and make the best with what I have, which is sometimes a needed reminder when we are all constantly force-fed New and Flashy Happiness in advertising. You're a creative inspiration. ❤️

In Minnesota we suddenly woke up to late fall, which means leather jackets, blazers, ponchos and raincoats all need to be put away and the winter clothes need to come out. I am trying to revel in it, a bit, but it's undeniably bumming me out, especially with the time change and the less daylight. I have purchased some Vitamin D gummies and put this years tea harvest (I make my own foraged tea) in a container and am trying to push through it. To deal with the shopping impulses I bought two dresses on poshmark that were two designers that I was sized out of when I was heavier (DVF and Pucci). They are definitely minimalist pieces in that they are neutral colors, in bold prints and they can layer. I'm going to move my summer clothes into storage and see what treasures are in the winter clothes totes....All of this to say, I'm going through it and BOTS and some fashion content is just the ticket to cheer me up....I did Daily Dracula which ended this week and I'm pretty excited to go and watch the adaptations again....

Cheering me up: a slew of professional development books that are progressive and exciting, talks at my job of a shift that I've been evangelizing ever since I've started, reimagining my makeup routine with more cream products, learning to do something with my hair (!!!), Handmaid's Tale season 5 (super weird to equate that with joy), the results of an amendment vote in my very conservative state, doing a stem project with my students where I'm rotting pumpkins in the library and the kids are TOTALLY PUMPED! And cozy season. Always cozy season.

I LOVE Young Royals and was likewise pleasantly surprised by the season 2 drop! Which reminds me of a more long-term "thing that's been cheering me up": in early Covid days when lockdown began, there was not a lot going on in my life other than video chatting and reading, both of which I love, but I was stir crazy and in need of variation to keep me sane. So I gave myself a challenge to only watch foreign language series. This project really brought some interest and fun into my life at a crappy time. I discovered so many great shows that I otherwise would not have encountered, and have continued to do about a 50/50 split on content in English and in other languages.

Things that have been cheering me up lately: severing a relationship that was no longer adding positively to my life, the new haus lab’s foundation& melt cosmetics Gemini pallet, my daughter being aware& caring about the use of cruelty free beauty products at 9! Blows my mind! & her passion for things that matter to her, that my son has developed a funky fun personality and has begun doing similar goofy things that I do. That my new glasses are actually flattering on my face. With my insurance I had limited selection. Most of the options just felt too popular& unlike me. In those situations I go for “What would be the style most repulsive to most?” Or in clothing “What is the most hideous bright color?” And I love those pieces the most because either I can enjoy roasting the product with others or in this situation it just suits me really well. I had tried the frames on briefly& didn’t even take a selfie to show others! Very unlike me. Pleasantly surprised. Also I found a vintage winter puffer mixed with windbreaker material Buffalo Bills hooded jacket on sale where I work for only $25! I felt bad not paying more for it, but it fell perfectly in budget& I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve also begun listening to music again& have been enjoying Taylor Swifts new music. I also watched her Miss Americana documentary on Netflix & really enjoyed it. I found it very much humanized her for me. She’s always been this being on a pedestal that some have attacked& to me that reads these people see something they perceive as better than them and instead of rising to the occasion and bettering themselves they’ve chosen to try and bring a star down. Dull someone else’s light instead of fostering their own. Last month I decided to utilize Pinterest for outfit inspiration to help me utilize my existing wardrobe and begin pulling myself together with intentional dressing. My goal this school year is to not show up every day in gym leggings and crop top to drop off the children. Since I’ve changed occupations this year my work allows that I can do that. & it honestly has helped me mentally sooo much. And probably the last thing has been taking time& investing in myself. Doing my makeup, taking the time to have my nails done, showering more regularly& using the nice hair tools I’ve had gifted or bought over the years. Just taking the time to put myself together.

So I’m definitely not alone in loving Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. We also recently have taken a deep dive into Bargain Block on HGTV. We love the couple, partners in life and love, who pick a whole neighborhood full of abandoned homes, and fix them up with such design and style, and sell them. They are wonderful guys. And lip gloss is cheering me up. I went to Arizona to see a friend without gloss or balm and seriously regretted it. So I came home and panic-bought a whole bunch and I’m happily pawing through them. And finally, HLP you are very much cheering me up. Watching you feels like visiting with a very special and important friend, and I appreciate you so very much!

I'm not minimalist but I have embraced the idea of Capsule Wardrobe so I always have basics in black, white, grey, dark & light blue denim. The rest of my closet is organized into the colors I wear most (red/coral/peach, burgundy/plum/wine, purple, blue & green) It makes getting dressed much easier. Depending on where you live in Calif, the seasonal change thing can be challenging for sure. Unless you live right on the coast on in the mountains, Autumn barely exists as a season in NorCal. It was in the 90s for most of Oct & now it's cold & rainy. Fall showed up for about 5 mins...(not complaining, we need the rain but I would prefer some cool, crisp but sunny days after a summer of triple digit hell) I love pulling out my small "Winter Wardrobe" after months of hot/warm weather :D You're so right about longing for/embracing change & newness. I think this is pretty SOP for creative people.

Hey Hannah! Thanks for the video, I’m going to definitely try young royals- excited to check it out :) I’m also glad you enjoy doing fashion content because I absolutely love it when you do that! (I’ll watch anything you do but agree with you that variety and change is the spice of life!) That’s so cute that you had a premonition about it’s release time too! What’s cheering me up is almost the opposite of you- non sweater weather. It has been a long wet winter here in the southern parts of Australia and the increasing day length and sunshine that has been around this spring is bringing me so much joy! I often say my happiness is solar powered… that brings me to the second thing that’s cheering me up now- gardening. I’m spending so much time in my garden with my greyhound noodles and I find it so immersive and fulfilling! Even when I don’t intend to spend time gardening I will be out in my beautiful garden taking something to the bin, I will bend down to pick out a weed and all of a sudden hours have passed and I couldn’t be happier!

BotS had me blushing in my car driving to the grocery store. It’s 🤭. What’s cheering me up right now? Crochet, cozy blankets, and crocheting cozy blankets. Candles. Comfort food in dreary weather. I charged my switch to get some gaming in. Mostly just being a homebody. Oh and I almost forgot: Only Murders in the Building! It’s sooo good

The Locked Tomb series has been my top literary hyperfixation for years!! the wait for new books has been k i l l e r, esp since the final book was split into two installments. fair warning, each book is super different and patience will serve you well. Gideon the Ninth is the most… easily digestible and commercially appealing?? and it gets w e i r d from there (in a good way imo! but ig some other people don’t love weird shit like I do lol). the series is m e a t y. Muir does *not* hold your hand and just throws you into the fire for book two. the first, like, 2/3 of Harrow is beautiful but baffling-but it *really* picks up in the final act, like, I was screaming for so much of it 😂 if you’re invested by the end of G9, let that investment drive you through any frustration because it does pay off in glorious fashion!! not at all trying to put you off the series! I just get nervous recommending it to people bc I’m scared that people who love the first book will DNF the second bc they want more of the first book and it’s not like that at all. Harrow the Ninth is an incredibly ambitious feat of writing and it’s so so good, i love it so much, I would die for gideon and harrow, just… strap in and have patience lmao 💀⚰️🛸✨

Is Nina going to be in two parts??? I preordered it and it’s still sitting on my shelf because I know I’ll need time to hop on Reddit and figure out what in the world I’m reading as I go along, haha. It’s strange that I get so lost and baffled with this series and yet absolutely love it. Your description of the books completely resonates with me.🖤

(no spoilers here!) there was originally only going to be one more book after H9, Alecto the Ninth. the story goes that Muir’s editor checked on her progress through Alecto, and Act 1 clocked in at like 140k words. editor was like “tamsyn that is a *whole book*” and so Alecto was split into two, with that big fat Act 1 becoming Nona the Ninth. so now we’re waiting on the rest of what Nona set up, as it was originally planned as one book. it… definitely makes sense when you read it that Nona was planned as an Act 1 to Alecto. but it’s also funny that it happened this way because it’s like… Book 3 also just fell into that pattern of just being completely different from both the other books in the series lol

I voted and I hope it cheers me up, but I live in KY, so I'm not extremely optimistic. As for media, the Rings of Power impressed me, and I'm glad there's a new season of The White Lotus! I'm so happy your recent fashion content has been faring well. Love to see it!

Your videos cheer me, thank you! ❤ Siren Queen Book by Nghi Vo, is the best book I’ve read all year. A young Chinese American girl in early Hollywood, beautiful storytelling, gorgeous characters. Oh, and did I mention the Magical realism? In this Hollywood, they really are buying and selling souls for fame. For my staff meeting today I had Name That Tune as our icebreaker. I love getting to play with my colleagues, it brings me great joy. I get to go to the American Library Association conference in New Orleans early next year. I’m over the moon. Life has had some dark and difficult moments. Thank you for regular reminders to take note of the good stuff ❤
