nice review...question...so I already have a power cable ran in my truck from the battery, looks like the same connection at the back of the radio. Are they pretty standard? should just plug into what I have now I assume? Thanks!!

Greetings. I just bought this radio and installed it recently, used two antennas, the MXTA25 Ghost Antenna, and the MXTA26 Whip Antenna. Both work well with this radio. Here's a few negatives: The handset mounts are kind of bad. Don't bother with the magnetic one -- it's just too weak to hold the handset properly. Just screw in the metal one. I found out that the handset also fits the slot of my previous MXT105B mount. It's annoying to program via the keypad, but can be done. Consider getting a cheap laptop to program it in the car, because, otherwise, you'll need to buy a separate power supply to program it in your home next to your PC. (Unless I'm wrong about this, never actually tried programming it without a power supply.) Installing this thing in a 2017 Ford Fusion was a HUGE pain, especially considering that there isn't a really good place for the handset. Getting through the firewall of my car involved disassembling my passenger vent and removal of the glove box, followed by puncturing the grommet in my firewall, then using a coat hanger to fish the cables through. Taped up the cables with duct tape to protect them, then lubed it up with WD-40, and SLOWLY pulled them through. Crimped the O-rings, hooked up the red to the battery and the neutral to the chassis ground (do NOT connect the negative back to the battery!). The radio gets ~14v. There IS some parasitic drain on the battery, even when it's turned off, so, if you're going to be gone for several days, disconnect the power source. The positives, however, far outweigh the negatives. The range is excellent, but is very dependent on line of sight. I can use this radio to talk to my colleagues at work. Great for communication on the golf course, road trips, hiking, emergencies, weather monitoring. The speakers on the KG1000G+ are decent. You get two of them, one for each channel being monitored. They can plug into other speakers, too, if you want to set it up that way. Heck, if your car has an aux input for audio, use that if you want. A very solid radio and a good purchase. 8/10.

Hey Matt, grat video. Learned something new again today about the KG+ unit. Do you know if the software when using the cable is compatible with MAC?
@MattKester4 ай бұрын
Not that I know of, I believe they have this thing locked down fairly tight. I’d be curious to see if others in the community have an answer though.

I wish the 1000G Plus had a Dimmable Display or a Dimmable wire For when headlights are turned on to dimm the display as well as color change options for the display

Whats the differences between the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Vs The Wouxun KG-UV980P ?
@TheJayGreer Жыл бұрын
Not sure why they say it's 50 watts... Mine and two other friends that have them are only putting out 40 watts. I love mine, but that should either be fixed, or quit advertising them as 50 watts

Can it RX on CB frequencies? If custom programmed or modded? If not then which similar wideband radio can RX on CB (other than a much more limited CB-only radio) ? By the way if you want a DIMMER screen then just place a piece of mylar space blanket over the screen, cut to fit the screen size, cost less than $0.50. Or a small piece of cloth shade fabric velcro'ed to the top of the radio which can be easily flipped down over the screen.

Can the KG1000G Plus be paired with a KG1000G for a repeater? I have a "new in box" KG1000G that I have never installed, but have not been able to find a second matching unit to make a repeater with it

I’m new to GMRS. Is it possible to jump repeaters like Shaw Butte (phoenix) to GreensPeak (Show low)?
@MattKester Жыл бұрын
Yes, there are quite a few repeaters that are linked together and Shaw Butte happens to be linked to Greens and several others. Shaw uses two different input tones, one is for local transmission, the other will key up in the link. Check out the description for Shaw at mygmrs.com, it will provide both sets of tones.

I thought I was on the wrong channel. LOL I still love my original Wouxun KG-1000G and you're right, not enough to make me upgrade. I'm also trying to fight the urge to Mars Mod my HAM and be done with it. :P

As someone who's been struggling with self discipline as of late, I'd say, go ahead and indulge yourself. But then that little angel shows up on the other side of my shoulder and thinks better of it, LOL.

I believe it's a the Swiftland T from REI. They are ridiculously comfortable, think a lighter weight version of the looser fitting Under Armor T's. here's a link - www.rei.com/product/202656/rei-co-op-swiftland-running-t-shirt-mens?CAWELAID=120217890013260396&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=111102782577&CATCI=pla-1019565934984&cm_mmc=PLA_Google%7C21700000001700551_2026560020%7C92700058729007559%7CPB%7C71700000075849551&gclid=CjwKCAiAy_CcBhBeEiwAcoMRHIq4nBSwc1rtbkaF3KJiSY-Tf5LiSXDsF9Tjl9IDjEYZP0QQ52UuRxoCECMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Cool to hear a review from another Arizonan. I’m on Towers 600/575 quite often. Probably have heard you out there. I’ve had looooong conversations with Nate, lol. -WRVG584

Screw that! I won't pay $20 more without the biggest flaw for this radio being fixed. They need to figure out a way to dim the damn screen.
@donmontalvo12 жыл бұрын
It's my only gripe about KG-1000G. Not happy that I can't dim the screen. Such a basic function, critical to avoiding night time accidents.
@linuxman02 жыл бұрын
On the non-dimmable display, I suppose it's probable they're working on a completely new display. Perhaps a subsequent iteration of this display will be color with different modes and will include a dimmable display.
@MattKester2 жыл бұрын
One could hope. Personally, it never mattered to me, but there were quite a few in the comments section who were outraged by it!

no backlight fix = no sale for $400, the thing should have color adjustable, dimmable, heck, autodimming for that much money.
@freedomseeds47132 жыл бұрын
Same hardware, same chips. This should be a firmware update with the option to purchase a new faceplate. Why do they not simply offer a firmware update for the menu label changes in the software?

Great solid radio, use mine everyday. Wish I knew the problem they had in repeater mode, I wouldn’t have bought 2 of them, but Still a good radio.
