Great summary, we also lost a really good defender in Gabe Osho who left after last season

Ross Barkley was the ONE they could not lose, he was the only reason we stayed in the fight as long as we did last season, his talent ability and workrate inspired those around him, Luton should have offered him a top level player coach contract with an eye on the main job at the end of his playing days, been watching Luton ofer 50 years, he is as good as any player I have seen at the Kenny, shame, he would have become an absolute legend
@TheChrishoughton2 ай бұрын
As a Luton fan, I have to say your views are pretty much spot on. Doughty is the only player from last year, performing to same, if not better, level. However, we are too predictable and we try to get the ball out to Alfie a lot. The crosses are not varied (not Alfies fault), they go to the back post, for Morris to head back across goal. I'm struggling to remember a low cross into the box, with at least one player going to the near post. Krauss has been very good, but as you say, he is on loan. We now sit deeper which has created a gap between the midfield and back three, putting us under immediate pressure, when turned over. We did well with a high back line, when Bell and Mengi were in the team together, but without Bell's pace teams have got in behind us and so we now sit deeper. Bell is back now and yet we haven't pushed the back three up and therein lies the problem. When turned over, we can't regain the ball quickly, as there is a gap. I hope Rob sorts it out, as he is a likeable person and maybe we could go on a run.

There is a fragility with the mentality of the squad, the transfer situation started to go wrong when Paul Watson left for Swansea. We became indecisive on player recruitment looking at the difficulties of bringing in a new Goalkeeper to replace Horvath, we got lucky in the transfer window no one wanted Barkley and I suspected Arsenal were offering Sambi out. The board needs to get a grip on recruitment ts not solely Rob Edwards who recruits players it is the recruitment of which Edwards is a part but player identification is done by others. Something needs to change quickly but who do you bring in when many players' heads have gone since our relegation and seem to have lost the fight. Personally have been unhappy with the results and the style of play, Rob Edwards has back tracked over the last few weeks and played a style similar to the way we played two seasons ago. Rob Edwards does deserve a chance to lead us out of this down turn. What we must remember this is the first down turn the club has suffered in the last 10 seasons. The Championship is easy league to exit if you're not up for the fight.
@ethanchauhan99732 ай бұрын
Pretty much spot on with you analysis. Although RE has made a lot of mistakes recently, the club I feel haven’t set him up entirely for success with proper backing in the windows. After a relegation, you need fresh hungry players to push others to get promoted and I think the whole club has gone a bit flat

Lockyer's loss has left the side with no organiser and spur at the back... with Osho gone too it has amplified this problem..The back 3 has changed with almost every game..Mengi, Burke, McGuinness, Andersen, Holmes, Hashioka and Bell have all been used due to constant injury problems.... The entire midfield has changed, as not only did Barclay leave, but also Loconga who was on loan from Arsenal... and Nakamba who backed them up as the midfield ball winner has so far not recovered from the long term injury which saw him out for most of last season... Our recruiting was lackluster, especially in Midfield where Krauss looks to be the only player in the middle to add to the whole...The question is, is this down to Rob Edwards, the board or both?... and in the January window, are remedial steps going to be taken or not?
@SoulfulHatter2 ай бұрын
Spot on. And the board don't come out of this smelling of roses....a 4 year contract for Edwards. Really? And diverting disproportionate cash to the new ground and massively under investing in new signings. And Luton have had a history of players over performing. This season it's the reverse - being played out of position, poor game strategy and resultant demoralisation. As you suggest time for Edwards to move on without the board dragging their feet in spite of the long contract. Trouble is with the exception of John Still and Nathan Jones Luton's ability to pick decent managers is woeful.
@stevesims2662 ай бұрын
Most of the defence have been out injured until last couple of games. Defenders are mostly back now, so no more excuses. Can't agree that Kaminski has been at fault for "quite a few goals". Can't think of any real errors. He's been one of the better players despite the crumbling backline in front of him.
@paulstillwell38742 ай бұрын
I feel the main reason Luton have shipped in goals during the second half of last season, and this season, is losing Tom Lockyer half way through last season. He read the game superbly and completely bossed the defence. Told them where to go and what to do in each game. Without having such a great leader at the back, its become boys against men.
@benthornhill79032 ай бұрын
I know Edwards was let go from Watford partly because the fitness of the players was well below that of their counterparts at Udinese come the end of a full pre season and 10 league games. Also didn't want to play anything other than 3-4-3 even when it wasn't working and would play players out of position. I was gobsmacked how well he did when he left.

Fully agree with everything you said, don't think any town fans would say otherwise, except to add a few Fs in. Summer transfer business was poor, Gary Sweet came out and commented on it being a strange window more than once. But despite that as we more or less kept the backbone of our squad nobody expected it to be this bad. Gonna need a big Jan window to rescue anything from this season. Changes need to happen even if Rob stays. He's tried a few things and so far nothing has really worked. Or it seemed to work for one or two games then suddenly didn't. I feel like the coaching staff, Rob, and players are full of doubts and don't really know what to do right now.

Decent analysis except : 1.) Don't agree about Alfie Doughty, his delivery has been abysmal this season. And if we don't get a new manager soon ( Mark Robins ?) we will almost certainly go down....!
@711honved2 ай бұрын
He rarely gets the ball past the first man. Is Doughty the only player we have capable of taking a dead ball kick? I believe Gary Sweet hoped we could survive the Championship without any major investment. A disastrous preseason led to poor panic spending.
