One of Jamerson's finest for sure, and a bit of a mission! Or should that be, a labour of love... I like this lesson. And if I may be so bold - I like you, teacher. ::thumbs up:: ... you could do with a bit of foam under the strings though. :)

Most important thing for learning this song is keeping to the feeling. It's impossible to keep to the rhythm without the slow jazz feel.

If anyone is looking to get that Jamerson sound... You can cut a piece of foam or cut a portion of an unused kitchen sponge wide enough to cover the 4 strings and tall enough to fit under the strings near the bridge to get that muted "Motown" sound. Carol Kaye uses a strip of masking tape over the strings down near the bridge for her sound, which is very similar. She plays w/ pick. Jamerson didn't. I believe he was initially un upright jazz bassist.

Great work, a bassline unlike any other! Like you said, it’s complicated so only managed to stay with you for a bit.

in the sixth bar you play an open G. Since it's in Emajor, im wondering if this is supposed to be an G#? it's kind of hard to hear because it is muted and therefore probatly not really important.

Why do you write this with sixteenth notes? Isn’t it a kind of cut time with swung eighth notes? Your metronome is even set to the correct quarter notes in your video. You can really hear it when you (and Jamerson) play 4 sixteenths in a row - it’s totally swung. Don’t get me wrong, you’re playing it right, it’s the way it’s written that I’m wondering about.

Kudos for your taking your time to share. Precision Basses back in day, came standard with foam strip glued to the interior top of the bridge cover. Your bass sounds cool, but, it’s a far cry from Jamerson’s tone. And it’s not all about the notes with Jamerson. The muted sound, the thud, his use of just his index finger, are elemental to his sound. You’re just letting things ring out like a bell. That’s not Jamerson. Get some foam, and do it right. Cheers.

ummm... it would be great if you showed us the notes that youre playing inthe fast parts rather then show us the tempo... we can work on accents and staccato later but first we need to learn the notes before we can learn to run chief
