We are sandwiched between Van Buren and Madawaska in a little sliver of a place called Grand Isle. Beautiful wilderness and the great Misty Meadows farm and restaurant.

Is there still a restaurant in Grande Isle??? I was in Van Buren a few years ago and there are no restaurants in that town. I had to drive to Caribou to eat.

Did you know that Van Buren has the ONLY dedicated Pickleball courts north of Bangor?? ALL other courts are lines added to tennis courts… not ours. Come by the Town Office on your next visit… we’ll give you a tour of EVERYTHING Van Buren has to offer.

Yes, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Van Buren, and many of the hamlets along the St. John River. There are some in Lewiston, Sanford, Biddeford, Augusta and even Brunswick, though the usage is dying out there.

Towns between Van Buren and Madawaska would make a nice drive. I have driven all of US 1 and 1a from Fort Kent to Key West Fl the coast of us is beautiful

Borderview Manor has changed a bit. Not the same family atmosphere in there as was in the 1980s. Both my Grandfather and Grandmother ended their days on earth in that facility back in the 1980s. It was the best old folks home in the world back then.

@@Stoshic Super, it may take a bit of time as I live in Bangor. I will check on Wednesday to see if I have any video or photos of Hamlin. My camp is a half hour south of there in Fort Fairfield so it wouldn't take much effort to zip up there and get some footage. .....if it will ever stop raining!

My grandparents’ home (and my grandfather’s office) was on the corner of Main Street & high street, from what I understand. My 93 year old father, Marcel, is the only one left of his siblings. I’ve never been to Van Buren, but I’d like to see it someday. My dad has so many stories about growing up there.❤

Thank you for sharing. Over the past 40 years I have seen a lot of the small towns in the County shrink in size. I just moved back to Fort Fairfield and am loving the peace and quiet. The people here are so genuine and nice. The best time to visit here is the third week of July when all the potato blossoms are out and you can drive for miles looking at flowers.

My family and I went there when I was 12 from CT. visiting friends in '96. Lifelong memories. Stop signs were in french and if you went on their front porch and looked a certain direction you'd see the Canadian flag. Crossed the border one night just to say we went to Canada. On our way back home we got caught in a whiteout and had to turn around and wait out the blizzard. I was just thinking about that time so I decided to see if there were any videos posted.
