From all across the Country people have been facebooking me and asking what's going on? The Gobblers disappeared, they aren't gobbling, why did they stop gobbling or coming into the same areas? There's no denying it's tough this year out there.
There's only one thing we can really do, here it is!

I appreciate your uplifting message Dale! I am a rookie myself. Turkey hunting public land by myself and learning as I go. Finding signs and roost sites but no bird in the tree yet. Been at it 7 days and put in about 60-70miles hiked. I have seen birds on the ground but I’ve bumped them all 😑. Hard birds fly off 5 ft from me when I set gun down for a millisecond. Hard lessons learned but finding less loud helps late season and more clucking. But I’m not great at eaither but working on positioning correctly then mastering my calls. Hope I get one. I have 10 days to hunt.

Early season they gobble to gather hens , mid season don’t have to gobble because they have their ladies with them, late season is when their hens leave them to go nest this usually happens about the last week of turkey season, this is the time to really hammer them.

2019 season here in Ontario was really hard. Roost gobbling then nothing or very little after flydown for the entire season. 2020 was totally different here with crazy roost gobbling and steady ground gobbling most of the morning. I think the winter of 2018-19 had huge bearing on the season and breeding started early with consistent breeding before season. Picked up for 3 days the last week but not as well as usual. 2020 they gobbled we’ll start to finish. Crazy birds!

Turkey hunting is turkey hunting ha ha. They can frustrate you and lower your confidence when they are kicking your butt. One year I asked a buddy if he knew a good turkey psychologist lol. I was down and striking out. I ended up scoring a few days later. you just have to be persistent, never give up.

Kentucky season goes out today. it's 3:02am and I'm up in hopes to get in there well before daylight to the only spot I've heard any gobbles in the last 2 weeks which is where they're roosting. Problem is it's all open field with no cover, tall pines where they roost, and mountain laurel thickets and cliffs after that. The cover of darkness is my only option. End of March I watched 5 or 6 gobblers get into an all out brawl two weeks later these 10 and 11 year old kids smoked em during youth season and yes I'm jealous but I was excited to see there was birds in high activity. Opening day they gobbled mediocre but I've got little to no reactions after that. Box calls, gobble tubes, crow calls, owl calls, slate calls, mouth calls, wing bones, flopping my hat behind cover like wing beats, running my hands in the leaves in that swish swish flick pattern that hens scratch in and virtually nothing. I've done every trick in the book that I know of and cannot get anything within shotgun range. Seen hens galore. Saw three small Jake's together on the opposing side of the creek they completely ignored me. Ive racked my brain on what in the corn bread hell am i doing wrong? Nothing is working. I'm not a decoy man nor do I care for pop up blinds but this might sway me. It is the only thing I haven't tried and do not have. My logic is if sound don't work use visual but that might not work either if the gobbler has a flock of hens with him. After season ends today and turkey hunting items goes on sale I think ill invest in some decoys for such situations. It is going to pour the rain on me today but I ain't taking no for an answer. If I come home again empty handed it will not be for lack of effort. Worst year I've had hands down.

Here in north Florida every thing is way behind like a month the season is over but they never really started good.the shellcracrackers didn’t go on bed on the moon in April like the should so it will be in May this year month behind I think the turkey will really turn it on in the middle of May after the season, the bull frogs hadn’t started bunching in April like the supposed to.so that tells me every thing is way behind.might because of the bad hurricane we had come through I don’t really know maybe that once every 10 year cycle as my granddaddy would say cycles comes around every 10 years.

I’ve always said turkey season mimics whitetail deer hunting leading into the rut. Like you said I have seen the three phases myself every year. They’re is the chasing ,or gathering, of the hens, then the toms hen up for the second, and the last phase is when toms can score one last opportunity to mate with a lone hen. I’ve killed all my birds in the first and third phase and it’s like clockwork. I think to be successful in the second phase you have to get real close to where they’re roosting...almost on top of them.

Last day here in SC. They tend to fly down a lot earlier and get to the valley in heavy shade where the creeks are because of the hotter temperatures. Hope this helps somebody if they’re having a hard time in the mountains. Took little over four hours to locate him but the box call on flaming loud yelps did the job. I start out soft and then build up. Had to leave midday but if I hadn’t had to, may have killed him. The foliage really muffles their gobbles and had to really have ears peeled back to catch him responding.

I harvested my 7th birthday Bird on May 2nd, 2019. I always questioned the seasons in the 3 states I hunt and Ohio is one of them. Ohio and Kentucky are my secondary states so I usually only have a day or 2 in them and I do the majority of my hunting in WV. I know the gobbles start in the first week of April in WV and I cant understand why season doesnt open the first saturday of April. Even if they ended it on May 4th instead of the 2nd week of May.. I honestly believe those making these dates have never hunted in their lives.

All Things Magnum the hens in my area by now have all the eggs they want an they are nesting I'm not experiencing the quite toms that you are talking about but they haven't been real vocal all year an the hens where mostly going to them like they are soppost to so the toms haven't had to go to them. but from around now til the end of the season will be a better time for them to come to your calls if you call an you get one to answer try gettin up an meet him halfway. keep calling to him so you can keep an idea where he's at an it lets him know that the hen is coming.
