Huge regression for me. Speeds are very erratic - mostly under the posted speed limit and then sometimes WAY over - extremely hesitant; sometimes it signals a lane change but then never takes it - just stays in the lane with the turn signal on; sometimes makes very sudden and unsignaled lane changes, other times it makes the lane change in two stages, first getting halfway into the lane, straddles the lane marking with left wheels in one lane and right wheels in the other; when a single lane splits into two or more lanes it will weave back and forth like a drunk driver trying to choose where it will go. I did a scroll wheel reset and then even reset the DAS computer but I've gone from using FSD 95% of the time to zero and waiting for an update that will hopefully fix this.

We got it on our model Y and it's basically solved driving in our area in the midwest. It's smooth as butter and the speed control is good. I just wish the speed profiles worked on roads slower than 50mph. It's surprising how much it differs by either per car or based off the location you are in. I'm not sure why some people are having not that good of a time. For us it did our routes perfectly (10%, 5mph off sets) in town and on the interstate. I didn't even have to touch the wheel or the accelerator like I had to constantly do on 12.3.6 and more so 12.5.4.2. The in camera for me is also less sensitive. 12.5.4.2 would cry if I looked away from straight on for more than a few seconds. During our drive around the lake yesterday (windy roads) I didn't even have to look forward it let me look off to my left and it didn't really even care. Only when I looked down or at the screen did it get upset. Seems to be less upset when I look at the screen with this update as well, and doesn't seem to snowball the aggression at me like 12.5.4.2 did constantly The only regression if you want to call it that is it seems to be a bit more strict about how clear the cameras are. I just had a tiny bit of condensation on the inside of the glass on the pillar and it wouldn't re-engage it. So I stopped the car, got out and then restarted driving and eventually it let me back in but it kept complaining about it - still drove great

The people getting views on sharing FSD faults are to the point of having just enough at the bottom of the barrel to work with. I know because I have about 40 hours with 12.6.1 in my '23 Y. The vast majority of my drives are maybe one or two minor corrections.

2021 MY here. I can attest that 12.6.1 is a huge improvement over 12.5.4.2. If you think otherwise then you must not have used too much of the 12.5.4 branch or the problems may be specific to your location or car.

I bought FSD in May 2021. On the highway it’s a useful tool. I always pushed the minimize lane change, when I want to relax. Now that that seems to have gone away, I’’ll be in full test pilot mode all the time. On side streets, I’m skeptical, it will be anything more than a toy for a long time to come. Enjoy your content.

I got a huge improvement with this version. Speed control choice is not great (fixed % means I am too slow in slow areas or too fast in fast ones), but other than that it has been great. Super smooth, decisive when needed, patient when needed

Profiles don't have any effect on the city driving less than 50. Speed control is separate for those roads.

@bushwookieadventures When a traffic light turns yellow, you're required to completely clear the intersection before the light turns red. In this case, @iowatesla's tesla failed to clear the intersection after the light turned red -- so, FSD v12.6.1 did an illegal left turn.
@gameboy46963 күн бұрын
Unless you're driving a bus or a heavier vehicle, entering an intersection on yellow even if the turn was completed on red is allowed. So yes Tesla did a bad move and you should have stopped instead of entering the intersection.

I've had 12.6.1 for a couple weeks. For me it's far better than 12.5.4 which wasn't bad. It's especially better on the highway and the steering wheel stutters are gone, it's very smooth. I use chill mode and keep the speed offset low, then it's easy to adjust to the desired speed with the scrollwheel. Much of the problem with speeds is a signage issue. Slowing down for small towns works fine. Coming out of towns is the issue because around here instead of posting a speed limit sign there's a sign that says "end speed limit". What does that mean anyway, that I can go 100? That said Tesla needs to do something about their map vendor. Sounds like they may be in the process of trying to build their own maps from their driving data but that's just a rumor at this point. I am looking forward to 12.6.2 which is rolling out. Always happy for progress.

Thanks for the video. For me, 12.6.1 is a minimal improvement for these reasons: Speed profiles not staying at your set speed limit, car not staying in centered in the lane, running red lights. It’s confusing to me why FSD seems to have some issues, like lane centering, perfected, the a new update comes out and it now can’t stay centered???

Yep, saw lots of issues with speed control. It likes to slow down on local, rural highways, and interstates. Yeah, it wants you to take over going into parking lots. Also did that to me turning onto the short stub road to the Dows, IA Supercharger. Less hesitation at intersections with wide stop lines, but it's still there.

Thanks for the quick video. We are still on v12.5.4.2 in our 2020 M3LR. Your observations with this version sounds like no difference or actually a regression from what we are currently using. I have updates turned off and will wait for more reviews and possibly a future release. My biggest complaint is speed and hesitation issues and I am not a fan of the new driver profiles.
@markcarlson35014 күн бұрын
I only had 12.6.1 for one day before I canceled the FSD subscription in my 2021 MYLR. From what I could tell, the new version didn't provide any improvements over the previous version, and maybe a little worse. However, the reason I canceled was because when the sun shines in the pillar cameras, FSD won't work due to glare or condensation on the inside of the glass. Aside from that, FSD seems clueless on lanes when the streets are snow-covered. I had service replace one of the cameras and clean the inside of the glass a few years ago, but it didn't resolve the issue. I heard new versions have heaters to prevent the condensation? But I'm not sure if glare is still an issue with the newer HW4 cameras.

Could change its “mind” half way through the turn and create dangerous situation.. I use to mainly drive on FSD, now I can’t even use it. Why is it so different for people??
@ekaa.31894 күн бұрын
I dialed the over speed limit to 15% and think I should set it even lower. One can use the scroll wheel to modify faster or slower for a stretch of road. I kept finding I needed to lower the limit at county changes. I even had problems with it wanting to keep at rural highway speed as it entered small towns. It was totally ignoring the speed limit drops. Not even registering the signs. Exiting towns it was often very late in accelerating.
@dennisschlieckau87234 күн бұрын
Ignoring speed zones coming into small towns is a major issue with Auto speed period. I had to turn it off. This has been the case from the beginning of the Auto speed feature rollout last spring. The problem with small towns is also lack of other vehicles on the road. If don’t have a lead vehicle to make the car slow down it won’t. It seems like the neural net training is heavily biased to large towns and Metro where people tend to drive well over the posted limits all the time.

A terrible step backwards with the new driving profiles. I hate it to the extent I just cancelled my monthly FSD. They eliminated the ability to minimize lane changes, eliminated the optional warnings upon lane change and for highway driving you can no longer effectively dial in the speed you want. You can but the profiles decide for you now. It needlessly changes lanes and you cannot stop this. I've reverted back to AutoPilot which is much better for highway traffic. I was really disappointed in the new approach that seems to mold profiles into one size fits all. Also it nags more than ever. Yes the speed control has gone backwards too. Hesitation is still a problem.

A little off-topic here, but I wondered if you could comment on my current situation with my new model Y. I've done some research and I'm losing 15-20% of battery capacity over night due to the cold. ….. around zero. Apparently, This is normal, but it is a daily loss of about 59-60 miles of range. (20% of 337 miles). That does not seem very efficient. Apparently, most of this is to keep the battery warm. My question is what kind of power consumption will I see if the Tesla wall connector is hooked up to a fully charged battery over night ? How many kw (Apprx.) are used to keep the battery warm. It is not garaged and this situation is with it not hooked to a wall connector. I hope to have that hooked up next week I’m currently super charging.

It went down to -6°F with 20MPH winds that night and parked outside. That battery % gauge shows battery available, as the battery warms up you gains some of that back. If you set the precondition interior and battery on a schedule you will have re-gen on deceleration a lot sooner, unless it is really cold out.
