The cool thing about your videos is that they are real and authentic which is why I love your channel so much. I have enjoyed watching the growth you have made on your land from the very beginning. And the growth of your family has been a joy to be a part of virtually... I think you are wise to let the twins do their own thing...very smart of you to do in this weird climate of youtube-isms.

We are in Australia with a 200ac homestead. Your channel is by far our favourite US homesteaders channel. Some of the bigger channels are just difficult to watch. Love the way we see you both and the boys actually doing the work without having employees/interns managing it for you, not plugging books, vlogging about health issues etc. You all do an amazing job and it great to see you teach your boys, and others’ children, the skills they can use for life. Meg is a kitchen wizard and also a wonderful, calm and loving parent. Absolute pleasure watching your family and property grow. Thank you.

Have to congratulate this reply. You, Meg & all your family on the honest, living blog that ALWAYS shows through. I’ve followed you through all obstacles, and victories, your videos are a very REAL honest approach. Even when things don’t go ‘RIGHT’ you are still there waiting for your life to show you what’s next. Meg - you are the kitchen master cook. Love little “Buggsy” interaction.

Hey guys. I’m in the UK. Had “extras” just like you. Planted most out : Tomatoes, squashes (no point Sweet Potatoes here), kept last year’s bolted carrots, leeks and parsley, this year’s bolted onions and cilantro… zero honey bees but now there’s an abundance of wasps and hover flies that are pollinating everywhere and predating aphids and other harmful bugs. Spare starts are obviously a boring necessity, but heck! Don’t they just save the day in ground anywhere rather than sit there taking up our time. Anyway, sweet potatoes in the woodchipped orchard could well become a permanent volunteer sweet potato bed like in Back to Eden. If nothing else, the rotating cattle will love the vines next year. 😃👍🏻👍🏻

Your as real as it gets and I enjoy that! 😊 Family and what is best for your family and showing us what has worked or not for you with your gardens. Thank you! 🥰 My parents would every year grow this squash that climbed up and grew to look like a baseball bat. It is one of the yummiest squash and very versatile. Let one grow to a huge size and get next year's seeds from it. Just hang it up and let it dry out until next year for the seeds. Wish I knew what it was called. But I'm sure you'd love it.

seriously dude. "regular watermelon" isnt a thing: just babble bro. the yellow moon and stars is a variety that does well in all growing zones in US, you should do a cut open, and a taste test, cause they rock. much of the rest of your narrative was babble. you are inspecific, and not doing show and tell testing. this will not age well, its just a yearly rant at this stage. quite focusing on what "I" did. she's better at this than you are. you seem, irritable, short conversationed, and inspecific.

Egg shells need to be ground into a powder for more bioavailibilty to the plant, for faster calcium absorption, that way you don't have to wait for the egg shells to break down, that could take months, I make egg shell powder by using a mortar and pestle and grinding it down and as far as Magnesuim deficiency you can apply some magnesuim sulfate (Plain ole Epsom Salt, which isn't really salt) around the root base of the plant and water it in, or put about an 1/3 cup to each gallon watering container and water it in gradually! It is good to keep Epsom Salt on hand for your gardens and applying it twice during the lifecycle of growing Tomatoes, Peppers, Night shade plants! Then reammending the soil again MG SO4 with your other ammendments (Compost to supply your Nitrogen and Micronutrients, Calcium, Phosphorous from Bone Meal, Potassium from Potash, etc.) during crop rotations! Another way to create natural slow releasing nutrients to the soil is by making your own biochar, then taking to cooled down char and add it to your almost completed compost piles or by adding it to the compost tea bins, letting them soak up the nutrients in the soil, as mini nutrient storehouse for the microbes to convert to your plants, every time your plants get watered and them biochar pieces get wet, they will slowly release those nutrients back into the soil with the help of the microbial life in your soil to then break it down for the plants to absorb, a very good symbiotic relationship for your plants, keeping the microbiome alive by giving them little nutrient hotels to live in. That is what BioChar will do for your soil! Word of warning though, if you was to put the unsoaked up nutrient biochar directly into your garden beds, they would actually atart robbing your beds of nutrients, because they hadn't had all of the pores filled up in the charcoal with nutrients, which could hurt your plants and microbiome! So from a person who has tryed this David the Good method, you absolutely should either have your CHAR charging or filling up for at least 2 weeks in either the WEED Tea or Soggy Compost, to fill them pours up the nutrients and microbial life! Just thought I would share these tips to immensely help your gardens to retain the nutrients and in the soil for longer! Now after one growing season if the Char gets depleted they will recharge by you ammending your soils after the growing season! Making BIOchar is a good winter Sport for getting a head start for your yearly growing season! I have an aerobic compost tea method using a 55 gallon garbage container, with a lid and placed in the shade, filled up with water, with tons of weeds, seeds and all, Egg shells, a little Epsom Salt, a little Borax, potash, cooked chicken bones, seaweed, Old milk, fish when I get it, but I don't put in any meats! Then after 2 weeks of stirring occasionally, it is ready and never goes bad! I soak all of my biochar before I add to to my beds, and pull from compost tea to fertigate and then add water and more biomatter back into the bin over time to make sure it stays filled up to the last 3 inches from the top! I dilute the tea to about a 1 over 10 parts water ratio, and fertigate the garden plants, on their leaves and soil! This is my Natural Fertilizing regimen doing this every 2 weeks or as the plants show that they need it, as some garden beds are richer in nutrients than others!

Here is a recipe that my family and all of South Texas loves that is a great use for cushaw squash specifically. Please try. Feeds an army. CALABAZA CON POLLO Y ELOTE (Chicken with Squash and Corn) 1 4-5lbs. fryer chicken, cut up 1 large tender cushaw squash, peeled, seeded, and cubed (1 to 1 1/2 inch cubes) 1 tablespoon cooking oil 1 tablespoon salt 2 cloves garlic 2 teaspoons mixed spices (comino and pepper corns) * *we use way more than this lol ** 2 large fresh tomatoes diced 1 1/2-2 cups fresh corn off the cob 1 tablespoon flour 1/3 cup water 1. Wash and cut off ends of squash, peel, and cut into cubes. (1 1/2 inch cubes) 2. Grind mixed spices and garlic. Add a little water to make a runny paste and set aside. 3. Brown cut-up chicken in oil. Add salt. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes. 4. Add squash cubes, spices, and diced tomatoes. Simmer for 30-40 minutes, covered stirring occasionally. 5. Add corn. 6. Mix 1 tablespoon flour and 1/3 cup water to make a paste. Add to mixture. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. It's amazing I promise.

When I first began roaming around in Thailand years ago, eating mostly at street markets, I made the mistake of actually eating a little Thai pepper that I think may have been called something like 'pha krit'. Found that it was in the food to provide some flavor, but was not intended to be chewed and swallowed. WOW! One trial learning about that thing... Probably would have blistered the paint off a Mercedes.

Your garden is absolutely amazing! The food in which you grow is astonishing, I wish I had you're a green thumb. Beautiful is exactly what your garden is. I order my seeds from HOSS TOOLS I always get around 98%-percent germination they are a great company and I've had to learn the hard way by purchasing seeds from other companies give them a try, YOUR GIANT BEETS FROM HOSS!! I'm going to get your email information and already you a few seeds and send them to you this way you can give it a try yourself. can give you the same information that I was given regarding my tomato"s, under each tomato plant as you're put an egg and break up some tums (crushed) and put them under the plant spread your soil around the plant. This should help you with your tomatoes. There is another KZbin channel the name of it is "Roots and Refuge" that is amazing KZbin Channel which is a great teaching tool on different ways of resolving issues with plant.
