Gatekeeping is an unfair accusation. No one is saying people can't play Hunt, just that we want Hunt to not loose its identity and become something else. That is not gatekeeping. I do not mind Post Malone or whoever else Crytek collaborates with but I DO mind if they sacrifice Hunt's identity and try to make it Call of Duty or Fortnite. If that is gatekeeping to you then I got a bridge to sell you.

hunt's identity was destroyed long ago. they constantly remove skill-based mechanics, appeal to the lowest common denominator, alienate long time players while making a game that is unwelcoming to new players. hunt is horribly managed by crytek. the QA is completely unacceptable. the game stability is a joke. the leadership is completely out of touch with what the players want. the player base is full of toxic casuals that despise the slightest concept of improvement or skill. the only reward for being good at the game is empty lobbies, shitty sbmm, or the utter hatred of the average player. i come back to the game every couple of weeks, stomp a few games, get bored because it's been the same game for 5 years with significant content updates, get unwarranted abuse from a bunch of random low skill players, and eventually uninstall for a month until i try again later just to experience it all again. this game is slowly dying and it's said because it has the best gunplay out there.

Gatekeeping the last ten years seems to be slung the most as an accusation by people who end up gatekeeping the original audience out of their thing. Abuse of other people’s moral standards to impose their otherwise unpalatable demands.

TLDR: if a argument is well thought out and has explanation sure fair play, but sometimes noise is noise. I mean yeah I almost always fall on the side of listen to the other side of the argument, and reducing a argument to whining, complaining, ect is not helpful it's worth considering the latter can be true. Hunt Showdown has one of the most toxic fandoms I have ever been part of and without pointing fingers I can safely say that is no mean feat. A good portion of dissent within the community can be boiled down to what I call Schrodingers cowboy meaning when the purpose serves it's a cowboy game and deviation should not be tolerated, but when it doesn't it's a "extraction shooter" and the means doesn't matter so long as you extract with token. The latter is generally used to justify the less than savory play styles that enrages many.

All the points your brought up are more than valid, I've been having similar feelings since 1896 came out. Hell, even before that with some of their events. I think the people working on Hunt care about it, but I think those in control see it as a money pot. *Edit: I miss all the lore the game used to have. If I remember correctly, shit had gone down all over the US and the notes were being read by people trapped in NYC or something. It had a post-apocalyptic feel to it. I could be misremembering that though. I miss all the gothic horror we had, and now all we have are silly events with the occasional legendary character who acts out of character for both the time period and game.

Hunt showdown originally caught my attention due to how unique it was. That gothic horror mixed with a small battle royal was perfect for me. I can't complain to much on what has been going on but that is due to me not being on it lately. However if they're adding crossovers then I might as well play COD. Not saying there's something wrong with crossovers, but they need to stick to that gothic horror theme and only do it once a serpent moon.

I was a massive fan of your video because it's all super valid critism. They put out the trailer for "Post Malones Murder Circus" earlier today. This game is falling apart, playercount is hemoraging right now. Don't believe me? Check the steam charts. When an event isn't going on there's less than half the playercount. FOMO and events are the only thing keeping the game alive at this point. Veterans are quitting and the newcomers aren't staying. The devs are killing their game chasing the casual audience.

I'm in the same stance, I am critical of the game because my sheer love for it. I played hunt so far back to the point Scrapbeak was considered new content, 2-4k peak players at the time and there was maybe like a dozen legendary hunter skins. Up until three years ago I used to own every single skin because I loved the game so much and wanted to support it. Now when I criticize parts of the game that from my experience is broken, glitchy or not enjoyable I will get chewed out by dozens of people. Their disagreement does not fix the cursor bug, their disagreement doesn't fix the crash issues, their disagreement does not make the UI better to use. When people often criticize the game it's meant as feedback to improve the overall experience, Cryteks job is to collect that feedback and find the right path forward. I'm all for disagreement but people need to learn to be tasteful about it. Not sure how to some people complaining about cursor bugs or bad UI/UX gets me called a "German WW2 soldier" lol (the word gets censored)

I understand performance issues are a hinderance for continuous play and engagement. My exp on PS5 has been rather stable since I’ve been playing Dec 2023 so I can’t relate to your frustration. When it comes to artistic/creative direction, it’s hard to get past subjectivity. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the events and additions since Dec 23. Ghost Face is a bit odd imo but I’m not mad about it. The only place I can agree Crytek has objectively dropped the ball is the UI. It does feel generic and poorly executed. Otherwise, I think Hunt is as good as it’s ever been and I’m excited to keep playing!

Hey there! Thank you for commenting on Hazmat's video. I want to express a bit about how I feel on the matter here if you'll let me. I don't necessarily WANT hunt to chase industry trends. My main feeling is that it is unavoidable. I feel it is inevitable for any modern live service game to chase dollar signs. No matter how passionate a dev team is, someone in a nice chair above everyone will be holding the budget in their hands and need to get someone paid. I find that at the very least, I appreciate crytek's efforts in doing the shilling as faithfully to their world as possible. We could have just had ghostface in a black robe from a Halloween store out in the bayou. Or peter griffin lmao but they huntified things. Ultimately if these trends get more players and more money (which they have, ratings are very positive on the DLC), then this ultimately increases the budget for development in the long run. For the record, I've criticized Crytek many times before. I don't have their meat in my mouth 24/7 😂 Regardless, I've gotten to read a lot of opinions like yours in the last day and it has been very eye opening for me. Thank you for taking the time to comment Visible.

Really, the game is still fine, but there's just so many things that were handled in such an awful way that I would just not recommend Hunt in its current state. Yes, they are finally communicating. Yes, they are being more open about changes, but there's still so many strange and downright terrible decisions being made to appeal to a broader audience. All that I want is Hunt's identity back, and they are just. not. doing it. They removed the lore books for no good reason, they made quite possible the most awful UI I have laid eyes on that it actually made me quit the game, and they're doing crossovers that just doesn't make sense to the theme of the game. I really don't like to gatekeep on this game, but its just the worst that it has ever been. This is not the game that I remembered playing in college.

However, either though they seem to be open to the community's feedback, they really do not put any effort into changing their gameplay accordingly. Imo, traits like necromancer hurt the game and diminish the game's quality, as it frustrates the players. They are multiple valid ways to change broken mechanics, but Crytek does not seem to be interested in nursing a "healthy" playerbase.

And ran into server issues a only couple of times. (It was twice over 4h play session to call the latest). Is the game is fine? Yes. Is there room for improvement? of course. It is far from perfect. I understand your criticism and share it in part, and would also like to discuss topics worthy of criticism in a reasonable manner. My main problem with the whole discussion is the constant shouting and screaming. (Not in this video, but on reddit/discord/etc.) It's always all the death of Hunt, EVERYTHING HAS TO BE WRITTEN IN BOLD, every text has to be peppered with insults towards Crytek and every argument has to be exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness. Not to mention the attempts to use everything as a meme template or to troll. This also applies in part to both sides. I'm also dramatising a little here. That was my biggest criticism with HuntersLodge's message. Rules for thee but not for me (at least that's what it felt like). Dismissing common game-breaking bugs that happen every other match to someone in a premade group as nitpicking or just whining/complaining doesn't help anyone. It was valid for him to call out some of the people altering or cherry-picking data on the Reddit to make it fit their overly negative or doomer narrative about Hunt. However, on the complete other side of the pendulum swing, he minimizes peoples' experiences with the negative technical aspects of the game that people are experiencing on a daily basis and just tells them to get over it and stop complaining for a bug they might encounter "once a month". That just seems to me like he's doing the same thing those redditors are, but on the other extreme end; altering the reality of the situation in favour of an overly positive message. Crytek needs to be held accountable for their neglect when it comes to the technical state of the game. I know they've been addressing bugs, but it's the same old story that's been going on for years: fix current bugs and replace them with new or older bugs that were previously fixed. I think for a lot of veterans, the hope was that the relaunch on the upgraded engine would alleviate some of these issues and the exact opposite seemed to happen.

@@HuntersLodgeOfficial it's actually good to know there's a first-hand account from someone not experiencing these issues. One of my biggest concerns around these issues is that it can drive away players that are trying it for the first time, so hopefully there is a good chunk of players that are spared these issues. I also think the nature of the game being an extraction shooter just makes those moments when it does happen all that more sour. I'm hopeful the Post Malone event will feel more polished since it has the potential to draw even more people in than the relaunch did. Depending on how they handle this, it could be the lay-up hunt needs.

I have a few issue with the game right now, MAINLY cheating shit heads and ping abuse. That's the worst of it, but not even close to other issues; there are still egregious frame rate drops, gear goes missing, ammo doesn't load in when you select it, the UI freezing STILL. There are a slew of other issues, and I know that Crytek is working on things, but frustration mounts when new event drops, but problems go on for months and they're still there. And while that's not fully a bad thing, for me personally as soon as I really realised this and the illusion was broken for me that it isn't the same game entirely anymore that was the point where I decided not to play anymore, which is sad because the game used to play was great the game I could play now feels off in an eerie kind of way. Its definitely interesting you bring up Reddit as an echo chamber. I'm part of many many different Reddit communities for different games as I am sure you and many other are. If you compare each community there is one thing they all have in common. "This game sucks." "This game is dead/dying." "This game is trash for xyz reason." "Fuck the devs." It doesn't matter the game. It doesn't matter progress. It doesn't matter communication good or bad. Reddit isn't the place I'd want to pay any attention to if I was a dev of any game... Discussion is important and there aren't many spaces to have discussions that are positive in nature. For every good post with valid criticisms and ideas to make the game better. There are 50 just calling the game trash. Wishing ill for the devs. I hope that they ignore Reddit and instead do more surveys and actually give a comment section for people to provide their feedback and then act on the major feedback points they gather from those surveys.

Here is the thing and this is my theory but Crytek does not give a shit about its old players. Crytek feels that they have gained as many players as they could with the way the game was, and that might have been good enough for some companies but obviously not for Crytek. So they are changing the game to attempt to attract a new audience. They are betting that the new players they can bring in will out weigh the players they loose from changing the game away from the game you purchased. They would be happy if you stayed but ultimately if you leave all crytek would say is don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. They arn't in the business of maintaing the game you love they are in the business of making money and if that means us leavening because we don't like the game turning into cod with a supernatural western flair then so be it. They ran the numbers and they think this will make the most money. Nothing we say or do will change them from this course. So either learn to love post, ghost face, quick pace, and less customization in weapons or move on because the only person who cares about how we miss the game when it didn't crash constantly is us not Crytek

It's harshly worded, but I would say I somewhat agree with the sentiment of that statement.

Yeah, I felt it was very tooth and claw, and contradictory. Saying he loves the community and in the same breath asking "what the hell is wrong with you people!?" He said himself it was a very rushed and unscripted video and it shows. I hope he maybe changes it a little because hes content is genuinely alright.

im a new player that isn’t new. I tried hunt in 2022 with friends who were obsessed. I didn’t give it a chance because no one ever explained it was a game tailor made for me. With the relaunch I decided to give it another go and immediately fell in love. I was deeply interested in the lore and was sad it wasn’t in the game but found wonderful creators like yourself. I honestly think the lore helped me immerse myself more. I love this game, it’s the perfect game for me and I’ve never played anything so captivating and unique. Love the in game interactions and how cerebral it is. I understand how people can be passionate about it and understand the criticisms. I do wish there was a place to go to talk about my passion and enjoyment with other likeminded players. As it stands now the community locations just make me sad because im not feeling anything but love for it so there’s not really anywhere to contribute to memes and entertainment. I hope the old players get what they want. I am not perturbed by stuff like post Malone but after 2 events, I find vanilla much more interesting. Maybe that’s the biggest issue but I still play every single day.

Gatekeeping is not necessarily a bad thing - just look at MtG. And crossovers are a thing now is not a very good argument, even if true.

Began playing weeks ago. It was amazing. But it feels quite like they are in the process of selling out now that they've grown a bit more popular. What the f happened to the lore? Ghost face is lame. Sad crossover. Not sure whats happening.

Very fair comments. In particular about listening to everyone’s opinions. We all want what’s best for the game and should listen to each other. It’s sad that an innumerable amount of people can share hard evidence of issues and then be labelled as complainers. There should be empathy and a joined willingness to insist Hunt is as good as can be.

Again, reducing people's opinions to "crying" doesn't help the conversation in any way.

I'm relatively new to hunt. I started playing about 3 years ago off and in over the last year and half I pretty much mailed hunt and ever since "serpent moon" event I noticed the game was changing and not for the good. I personally feel like the game isn't the same I feel like it too "easy" I feel like the game doesn't take "skill" like it used to have. I also don't not like the addition of Ghostface or post Malone this isn't DbD I really hate the idea of crytek adding post Malone to the game dude doesn't care about the game imo but since he's a celebrity he's gets a skin and event in the game just for the cash grab and it so infuriating that crytek doesn't care about the game or the fans and they only care about a quick buck

You obviously didn't watch the video with Post Malone in it. He knows the game very well. Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean they don't know anything you do. Stop complaining and actually bring a valid argument to the table
