In today’s video, we will be traveling through the Midwestern United States to explore a huge historical abandoned courthouse, with several courtrooms, jail cells, and other law enforcement related facilities. The stately structure was truly an ideal explore, mainly because this spot had so many interesting features with its pre-depression era details proudly on display through out. There were a couple of different wood-paneled courtrooms, the halls were lined with giant marble columns, and the original doors featured etched windows, letting people know what offices are behind each door.
The beautiful beaux arts styled courthouse opened back in 1912 and was an immediate hit with both city officials and the people, who showed up in large numbers and crowded together to celebrate the opening of their cities stunning new municipal building. The highlight seemed to be the interior architecture, which was designed by a prominent local architect was long seen as a true craftsmanship masterpiece.
The newly built colossal courthouse replaced the much smaller original city courts building, but was specifically designed to house a number of different civic agencies and various other municipality offices, in addition to the court rooms, the district attorney and prosecutor offices, and other law-enforcement departments. The building was also constructed as part of a great political plan to develop a center of public service buildings within the city’s downtown business district.
The building operated as the city’s primary center for justice and community services and continued to serve its original purpose for nearly 90 years until the new turn of the millennium in 2000 when the federal courts moved into a newly built modern state of the art facility, which still operates today.
As for the century old courthouse, it has sat abandoned since the day it closed some 24 years ago. There have been several proposals to renovate the place, however, nothing has ever passed the planning phase. Today, the old courthouse continues to hang in peril awaiting for another chance at life. We can only hope that city officials can help save this beautiful beaux arts gem.
And that will bring us to the end of the video, but you can always see more photographs from the courthouse and our other locations, at our website AbandonedCentral.com. And don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe to Abandoned Central on KZbin so you get all the latest content. Thank you for the support!

I know this building! Unfortunately the city won't release it's grip over it to allow a developer to convert it to a hotel, would be a great location considering the nearby venues

So cool! I am fairly certain the place is filled with asbestos and lead paint so the cost of building a new facility thats up to modern standards will cost much less than doing abatement and renovations to such an old place that served its purpose.
