I think the true hero of that fight would have to go to Deku's gloves. I mean, if his gloves didn't work on his phone's touchscreen how was Todoroki supposed to come. If he didn't come, we woulda had dead people. And dead ppl r not nice. 10/10 luv dat glove

That’s the wonder about MHA as a whole Literally everyone in the world is a normal person, they just happen to have a QUIRK (ha ha) about themselves that allows them to do this and that Once they bust out their power they’ve got all the attention and recognition depending on who they are but otherwise they’re exactly like Midoriya which is why I always found it odd why there’s such prejudice against those without quirks if everyone is normal until they use their quirk I’m rambling, sorry

One thing that I kind of took away from the fight is that even to the end Stain backs up that belief in a truer form of heroism, because he is the only one to step up to save Deku. As you said, he finds him worthy not only of just letting live, but worth saving, and that is why I think he becomes so enraged and willing to take everyone on. Gran Torino and Endeavor have moments of internal thought shown doubting what they should do. Stain was the one bound and injured, yet with so many "heroes" around, nobody acted without thinking to save another. This parallels him even further with Deku, as Stain acted without thinking too, as he could have easily escaped without saving Deku or right after he killed the Nomu, but didn't, choosing instead to face those he sees as Villains behind him. Such a great character for someone who looks straight out of Image Comics

I didn't even think of it like that until now. In that scene, even though a pro as experienced and skilled as Gran Torino doesn't think he can save Deku in that moment; He WANTS to save him, obviously, but he actually thinks about it for several seconds - seconds that the flying Nomu takes to fly further away. Same with the other heroes there: They're thinking of their odds of actually saving Deku as well as how the Nomu even got there. Stain doesn't give a damn about ANY of that. He doesn't care where the Nomu came from or what it's doing there. He doesn't care about the fact that saving Izuku will still result in him being confronted with several Pro Heroes, each at least as skilled and effective as the three kids he was just beaten by. He's not thinking; He's DOING. He actually frees himself, licks the blood of the Nomu off the heroine's face and takes down the Nomu, all of which happened way too quickly to chalk it up to plannng or much thought. He saw someone who matched his ideal of what a true hero is, and saved him. As stated by several others, he went from the Hero Killer, Stain to the Hero, Killer Stain. Even if for only a brief, glimpsing moment.

Yeah Izuku is the only one who could give Todoroki real help and was able to break his walls, and Todoroki isn't an ungrateful person and from his perspective he definitely started considering Izuku as his first true friend. The light novels by the author delve deeper into the Izuku - Todoroki friendship :-)

One thing you didn't point out is how they reacted after it was over. The adrenhaline was still pumping and they were still a bit freaked out, just like any normal kid with no experience in this would be. I thought this was a nice touch since most shounen like to have the protagonist(s) be inhumanly ok....I guess what I'm saying is it really humaized the characters.

That's something I also love about this fight and MHA; Horikoshi the mangaka never forgets that our main characters are children. A lot of high school anime, namely in the battle Shonen series, I find often neglects this. I can understand why, as more often than not, it is the spectacle of seeing these teens and thus most audiences can suspend disbelief. But this take is "realistic". As in, in given how the world has setup with professional heroes and how they are often seen as experienced to take on villians; for three high school children, even from an elite school, can manage to do this is a big testament of their prowess and defies expectations. So really, in that light, this entire fight I find is brilliant.

Thank you. But really, in my view, what makes this fight so great as one can look at it through different lenses. And really, why I love Horikoshi, namely his ability to do this while working within the Shonen genre. And this isn't me slighting the genre. I find there are some out there who don't give him and another quality mangaka enough credit. it is hard enough to pander to a set audience with expectations, but presenting new, complex ideas while working within the boundaries of the genre that is hard. And really, there is a reason why mangaka like Togashi, Oda, Araki are so renowned as they have done this.

I also like how they closed the whole fight off by pushing in their face how they esentially broke the law as much as Stein did. They almost killed Stein (his lung was punctured, that's not exactly a minor injury). Up to that point they had made it seem like they could just use and abuse Quirks at will but we are finally reminded that heroes had to earn society's trust by not abusing their power.

@@Avarn388 I doubt anyone gonna read this, but i agree with your statement a lot. I love how the students in MHA even though they are teenagers, are portrayed are more as children and not as adults; which is the other way around in series like Bleach and Naruto. It just feels a lot more compelling when children face fear, danger and the cruelty of people and try their best to overcome these hardships; afterall, it is naturally harder for them to do so than for adults.

You never talked about why Stain doesn't just use poison on his blades, and I think I have an idea why (Stain does not use poison that is). His kill count is way lower than his wounded count. This is because (I think), he does not want to kill heros that gives him the right answers. His quirck does not stop you from speaking. He only wanted to kill Ilda after he spoke about revenge. While with Deku, if he used poison on his weapons he would have killed someone he accually did not want too. I beleive he wants to hear Hero's out before killing them. If they goes with his values, then they live. If they don't they die. Poison the way people have been talking about it would not give any Hero a chance. He would never be able to question them, as they would die regardless of what he wanter. But loved the video and will check out more of yours in the future.

@@dracoaquariusphoebe3487 plus its not like Deku automatically gets the skills to control it. We're 4 seasons in, and OFA is still on (a realistic) 20%,, and I also loved the way Horishiki got him to win against Chisaki by upping his powers- thankfully Not by "willpower" or some shit, but w the help of Eri's quirk. Finally a power-up logic I can get behind. Deku has a long way to go, and I hope the pacing stays this way- along w a good storyline so that it doesn't become a drag.

One thing I am upset about after this fight is the fact that- endeavor got the credit of defeating Stain..... and that if the kids were acknowledged as the true heroes they could have been arrested for using their quirks in public , even tho they defeated one of the biggest threat at the time...... Correction Stain is only HALF right, yes he hates the money and fame hungry heroes but he also claims the very IDEA of a hero earning money from their work is wrong, but the world wouldn't work if that were the case, we don't ask our police and firefighters to work for free.
@jasonreed7522
@jasonreed7522 2 жыл бұрын
Technically some areas (mostly rural/small towns) are only served by volunteer fire departments because there just isn't enough "need" to justify that expense on the very limited town budgets. Where as major cities are very willing and in need to have paid fire departments constantly on staff. (Volunteer departments usually always have enough firefighters hanging out around the station and they all come running with everycall like cats to a can opener, and i believe that the dispatcher is paid) I think the same idea applies to hero settings, basically if you only have a couple incidents a year they aren't worth having on staff, but if its a constant problem and they have to work full days like the police then obviously they need to be compensated. And in MHA the heroes are basically an extension of the police for catching superpowered criminals.

I really like your analysis of the fight. The only thing that was missing imo was the fact that Todoroki tanked 80% of the whole fight without getting paralyzed even once + he created the stress/opportunity situation to "defeat" Stain. One of his first actions in that fight was also to save every other hero with his ice before charging in. Just my two cents since I think he was even more impressive than Deku in that battle.

One of the many flaws in Satin's ideaology is that is ignores an important aspect when it comes to heroism: At the end of the day it doesn't matter if the hero is selfish, a jerk, in it for the glory or is being paid to do the job, all that matters is whether or not someone was saved thanks to their actions. If the hero's flaws are an active hinderance to that than yes they shouldn't be heroes, but if it doesn't hinder their ability to rescue innocents than what does it matter if they aren't ideal super heroes like All Might? And the whole "Heroes shouldn't get paid" mentality kinda insults Firefighters, Police Officers, and other public service organisations that pay their workers.

On the Firefighter point, many smaller towns and cities in America have volunteer fire departments, of course in the event of a call they are basically free to drop everything and go save people. But in larger cities a paid fire department is mandatory, likewise in stories where heroes are basically only needed a couple times a week then they can usually get away with being volunteers, but in MHA heroes have to do hero work constantly. Of course they are more analogous to police than firefighters but i think it works. Basically if you have say 3 incidents a year that are hero level then they can be volunteers, but if incidents are a daily problem then you need heroes properly on staff and compensated as they can't hold a "real" job when they have to go deal with the joker every 30mins.
@willnelson9906

it's also just, like he ignores that some heroes could be financially motivated AND seek to be a good hero. in stains world, someone with a quirk that could save lots of lives/stop lots of villains, who faces economic hardship, shouldn't be a hero if their main motivator is for the good money it provides them and their family. it doesn't matter if they plan on being the best hero they can be, who doesn't abuse their station. stain was a wonderful villain, who opened the door for us to think "hm, maybe hero society is flawed" but, he himself is flawed. it'd be a much more difficult pill to swallow if stain was like, a red hood esque villain. he hunts down specifically evil heroes, people who use their station as a weapon against regular folk. (Hell, if that were the case, stain may not of ever become an antagonist in the first place)
@willnelson9906
@willnelson9906 2 жыл бұрын
stain can't see that, with the way quirks have evolved, and society has evolved, being a hero is basically as important, and as common-place, as being an emt, a firefighter, or a police officer. it's a normal job now. stains war would've never ended not cause hero society is corrupt from the top to the bottom (even though there's some corruption there that can be explored and discussed) but because his views themselves were corrupt.

It's not in the fight, but I think the aftermath deserves some recognition. When the 3 kids are recovering from the fight in the hospital, they are told that they'll be punished because they unlawfully harmed someone with their quirk. This honestly always quite bothered me because of how easily the situation could have been justified as self-defense, and I found it strange how Todoroki and not Deku was the one to step up in order to defend their actions. It helped put into perspective their characters, and how Deku is more interested in what is lawful while Todoroki has a much stronger personal moral compass as to what he thinks is right.

I read the manga, and I love how this one character, stain, affects so many other characters in the series. New criminals are made because they look up to stain, like Spinner, Dabi and Himiko. The same with Deku, when the other characters are in a tough situation, they think about deku. He affects them in a positive way. Like Mezou, Minoru, Shouto, Momo, Ochako, Kouta. Heck, Deku unknowingly gave Tenko (Tomura) a conviction, so he’s not just bad because “I don’t like good.” His new goal is to kill All Might, and prove just how fragile society really is without him. He says that people laugh because All Might laughs. I know what he said but can’t really repeat it since it’s from memory, and I would have to go back to that chapter. I know what he means though. I loved this video.

@SeiferVII
@SeiferVII 6 жыл бұрын
For some reason I don't find Bakugo fights as compelling, and considering how many fan votes he wins, I think I might be in the minority on this one lol. I just generally find he wins by using his power at full force, while Deku has to think around the weaknesses of his power and the opponent's. Every scene he seems to be trying his best to both win and improve himself. I gotta give credit to the animators for displaying this with as little as the pained look on his face as he tries to control his quirk with a mere 5% power. Bakugo is obviously trying his best as well, and they tell us this by having every line be the same rage-filled scream about needing to be the best, but doesn't really have to because he's better than every other student at his school, with the possible exception of Todoroki at full power. IMO His best fights are when he's used as a foil to a character that isn't so naturally talented or powerful, like Uraraka and Deku. His fight against Todoroki looked awesome, but there wasn't enough emotional context for me to root against or with any of them. They have the two strongest student powers in the school, so we don't get any cool underdog scenario like the fight against All Might. And any emotional growth drawn from a heartfelt backstory was already done when Todoroki fought Deku, which I think looked cooler and had better storytelling. But not everyone needs that, and people prefer different stories from characters. Deku has to think ahead, and so fights more like, let's say, Batman. Deku's fights usually have just as much action being done in his head and heart as it is on screen. While Bakugo is more like Vegeta. He fights with overwhelming power and speed, and wins by fueling his already natural aptitude for combat with anger. His fights have more yelling and explosions, and are usually better from a straight combat perspective, since Deku is starting so far behind everyone in terms of control and experience. Deku has to build up his ego from a lifetime of emotional abuse, Bakugo has to tear down his ego from a lifetime of inflicting it and being the best. Different styles, so people can prefer either. There are more reasons I like Deku's fights more so far, relating to their themes and such, but this has already gotten pretty long and it would probably get too personal. It just tells you what a good show this is from how much analysis can be done with these essays, and how heated people get over it.

1. 6, not 8. 2. Not new, they're from the previous OFA holders. 3. Not out of the blue, OFA was introduced as a power-stockpiling quirk and the theory fans have been predicting this for years.

1. Mineta wasn't in Hosu. Most of the people on his contact list probably weren't in Hosu, since they all had their own internships. 2. As he mentions in the video, Todoroki being in Hosu can be traced directly to Deku's actions during the Sports Festival. It's less about luck and more about good storytelling. 3. Mineta could have been very useful - his balls could effectively lock down the Hero Killer, and they would stick around (and thus still be useful) even if Mineta himself was incapacitated. He could also serve as a fantastic distraction / bait, since he's the physical embodiment of everything Stain hates about heroes.

The All Might exam was my favorite moment from the show thus far. There were some REALLY solid hits, and it was actually really intimidating seeing All Might display his true power.

Hey, Jeff. One concept you briefly brought up in his video that stuck with me was the concept of redemption being a process. When I watched the fight and the aftermath, I noticed that Iida had indeed fallen of the path of a true hero and was soundly defeated by Stain because of that, but I hadn't noticed that simply realizing the error of his ways in that moment didn't grant him the right to call himself a hero again (as I had originally assumed). Like you said, he still needed to redeem himself for his prior failings and doing so would take both time and effort. It's a lesson and a word of admonishment that I actually needed to hear today, though I won't bore you with the details. Anyway, thanks for making this video and all the other ones you've made. I haven't watched them all, but I've enjoyed every one I've seen so far. Keep it up. I look forward to seeing what you create next.

Bro, I love this show but I don't understand how Deku can't one-punch him since he could do that to the *giagantic* robot in season one, can someone please explain that to me?
