I think one thing that makes this fight stand out even more is that it gains an unusual bit of tension because the good guy fighter isn't the protagonist, and the fight is nowhere near the end of the story. Not only does this fill the audience with the knowledge that the story could continue if the good guy loses the fight, but given that said good guy is the protagonist's old mentor, if anything it becomes MORE likely that the good guy will lose. The fact that All Might not only wins but survives comes as a pleasant surprise to the viewer as well as the characters, because victory was legitimately in doubt in a meta sense.

All Might did die in that fight. Toshinori Yagi survived. I have a lot of theories as to why All for One was so underwhelming in terms of strategy. 1. He has less room to stockpile quirks as a result of his fight with All Might previously. 2. He has been feeding the favorable quirks for killing All Might into the various Nomu he has crafted so he has less to work with. 3. AS YOU ADDRESSED (Thank you for that). He is the type of guy who likes to create despair so he had a win win scenario to fighting All Might. He either beats All Might down at his own game (no "cheap tricks") thus proving to everyone that All Might isn't the strongest. Or he loses and All Might is sapped to later be destroyed by his maniacal protege who's job is to decay society with his own hands (symbolism in Shigaraki's quirk). These are my headcanons that seem to have a lot of groundwork in the story itself so I accept them as accurate.

@@nicholaskling2425 That's not necessarily true, anybody he stole a power from basically becomes like a husk for a bit as shown with Ragdoll, so it's not much of a stretch that maybe he stole some powers then just killed the hero. Can't find out that a quirk is stolen if the person whose quirk was stolen is dead. If he was smart with Stain he could have had him kill whatever heroes he wanted to and then before they died taken their quirk as a... insurance policy, that no one will catch Stain unless he wanted to be caught.

When small Might is revealed, I think it was so impactful because the author had seperated the two forms of All Might, not just on physical appearance, but also through personality. So when we see Small Might's steely gaze it's shocking because, even though we know they're the same person, we fully are confronted with the fact that All Might embodies his ideals no matter what form. His determination comes from his own resolve, his inner strength is his own, and what makes All Might the greatest hero, has only partially to do with his power. The facade of All Might was stripped away, but the same man remained. And some of the questions this fight asked went beyond good and evil, this was about legacy. For both of these men. Passing on the torch to a new generation, struggling to impact the future one last time, and preserving their place in the history of this struggle. When All Might say's "you're next," most people I've seen break down at the point. Because All Might is done. The greatest hero of all time, has finally fought his last battle. He left it all on the line and now there's nothing left of his power. And the sorrow of this is amplified because we feel the weight of legacy being shifted to Deku's shoulder's. And it's crushing. It weighs more than any one man can bear. The weight of the entire world now rests in Deku's shoulders. And the whole world remains oblivious to both the loss of the greatest hero and to the loss of a child's innocence. The aftermath also felt like a callback to the shows title. My hero. As amazing as Deku's fight with Muscular was, All Might played hero to the entire world. As viewers, we fully realize why All Might is the number 1 hero in the hearts of many. Why a small Child would spend hours watching his videos. And why he is the pillar of peace. And he does this all, despite just being a man. We relate to All Might because he embodies what it means to be a strong adult. His Small Might form is his real face. He's slightly cynical, he's fragile, he doesn't seem like all that much, and he wonders if he is doing the right thing. Even though his power form is essentially what makes him his world's Superman, it feels more like a metaphor for a strong front. Faking it till you make it and takling your problems head on. Being a pillar of your community, mentoring the future, and being the standard. An ordinary man, doing his best. In the end he loses his powers, but he also reconciles his two forms. Small Might still has all the things All Might had, he's still the same person. He still is the tape that holds society together, and he still is the hero of all his loved ones. He's definitely still mine. My hero.

Andrew The Mighty I believe it was because Muscular took the attack directly to the head, while he absorbed most of the force from the first smash with his muscle. If you observe Muscular as he gets up from the first 100% smash, you'll see that his entire body is surrounded by extra muscle, before he retracts it back into his skin.

Like, if bakugo could just fucking become a missile at any point why tf didnt he do that the second he was in the open. I'm sure he could have put enough force in stopping power to not injure himself too badly considering he has like partial flight with his explosions. I feel like they really overdid how strong bakugo's actual power is in this scene massively and thats the exact reason that scene WASNT in the manga.

SulfuricDrake When Todoroki formed that giant ice pillar behind the league of villains all of them, and I mean ALL of them Shigiraki included (Though only for an instant), looked first at that gigantic show of power from Todoroki, that to them came out of nowhere, to Deku, Iida and Kirishima flying through the air at ballistic speeds. The only villain who realized what was going on fast enough to do anything, Shigiraki, only came to his senses after seeing Kirishima hold out his hand for Bakugo. The window of time caused by Shigiraki's initial surprise, coupled with his current position on the battlefield gave Bakugo enough time to 1) recognize the escape attempt, 2) decide to take it and 3) create a big enough blast to rocket himself away from the field. This gave him time to gather/produce enough sweat (His quirk) that had been building up over the short fight with the League, and combine it with the desperation he felt before and the moral boost he gained through seeing his friend give him a way out, to create a big enough explosion to quickly get out of reach before anyone grabbed him. TLDR: Everyone looking at Kirishima gave Bakugo the time and the fact that Bakugo's quirk is stated to get more powerful the longer he fights/sweats with the "Morale Boost" **cough** power of friendship **cough** gave Bakugo enough Blasting power to pull it off at all. Sorry if this sounds condescending or anything, it is not my intention to be.

A lot of people say that All for One's use of his powers were uncreative. But he did say that he depleted a lot of his quirks in his fight with All Might, which means he would have to start over again with his power set. Mastering 40 different quirks and mastering all these creative combinations is not something he would have had the time to do. All for One needed to gain power as quickly as possible. So stacking a bunch of quirks on top of each other would be the most effective way to do that.
@realitysmasher6192
@realitysmasher6192 5 жыл бұрын
I disagree. It will be an insult to say that. The biggest reason for all for one losing is that he's an amazing mentor. He didn't take jeanist quirk and let go of other like that cause it doesn't fit with shigaraki's views of sheer power and destruction. He is smart and creative enough to learn to master all these quirks or at least use them in a "smarter" way. But he didn't. This is why he's a better mentor than all might.
@captainmarvelous7678
@captainmarvelous7678 5 жыл бұрын
@David Braun I respect your viewpoint and agree with some things you said. But one rebuttal I will offer is that All for one may not have had the time to get all those different little quirks and combinations to fight in a variety of ways in the manner you spoke of. Remember hes obviously not in the best of health here. His plan was not to fight All Might here, he was putting together quirks to give to shigaraki, not to power himself up. So what quirks he could have gotten to use for himself we dont know, but whatever the case we know the ones he has now, at least some of them were intended for Shigaraki to have and he wasnt going around collecting hundreds of quirks for himself anymore. It doesnt appear his plan was ever to give himself the best set of quirks and go at All Might full force anymore. He was retired from that role so to speak, ready to let Shigaraki be the one to have that climatic clash with All Might. Only his plan got cut short when he had to come save the LOV here and you flat out says he didnt come there intending to fight All Might tonight, but since they were both there, and they had already started the fight, he'd stay and finish it. Therefore it makes fine enough sense that he doesnt have quirks that are ready for every situation imaginable right now. He had several powerful ones on hand, and he'll use those to try and Kill All Might if he can.

To everyone wondering why All For One didn't use any more of his quirks: who said he was done entirely? For someone supposedly "out of the commission", he's sure been mentioned and brought back into the story a lot. In one of the latest episodes, he even had a very interesting talk with All Might about the aftermath of their society which was dead accurate, despite being said evil villain being confined. He also really likes bringing up the fact that "I'm confined, what can I do?" Sure, he's been locked up in Tartarus, and supposedly has no contact with the outside world. But remember that he has the perfect counter to this. In fact, didn't he just steal it? Ragdoll's Search Quirk. Search allows him to monitor up to a hundred people at a time. If he chooses the right people, that's a LOT. That's way more than enough. All Might. Deku. Endeavor. Shigaraki. The League. His contacts, his enemies, his allies. I mean... he's a mastermind. I'd assume that's how he knows about everything going on. This man is centuries old. He's been around since the beginning of quirks; of course he's always ready to play the long con. That's exactly what he's supposed to be doing. The world doesn't know that quirks can be taken, given, passed on, et cetera. All For One wouldn't reveal all his cards at once. Remember, the public doesn't know his quirk. For all they know he's just some dude with muscle enhancements. And they definitely didn't hear him, or else Deku would be fucking dead. So if you can still use a number of your quirks that nobody knows about, and if you have a lot of helpful invisible quirks... You'd probably be using them. Right now. He could also be saving his best quirks for another rematch with the heroes at their lowest point. T h i s i s n ' t e v e n h i s f i n a l f o r m. To end this, here's a little something more to think about. In the event of the inevitable Jailbreak arc, I'd like to think that the entirety of Tartarus, all the worst villains in the world (or at least Japan) would escape. In there, we have a wild card that could inadvertently help the heroes or be an obstacle to the villains during All For One's escape: Stain.

I just realized that All For One is literally a nameless, faceless villain, and it's fully intentional in- and out-of-universe. In-universe? He can't reveal too much. But the interesting thing is out-of-universe. He obviously represents the threat against heroes, and the public doesn't really know a single person behind it. As a result, it's more of a non-human effect. This is also why Horikoshi designed Shigaraki to wear a hand over his face, at least I think so. You need to hide his face in public. Additionally, Shigaraki is known as just part of the League of Villains in-universe, but we know his real name well because we need to know him well. And we literally do not know All For One's real name. He needs to seem as inhuman as he possibly can. Classic midnight symbolism revelations from your boy.

No matter how much you justify the great animation or narrative impact of MHA fights, the show is popular so people will always hate on it and call it overrated. Personally, I don’t think it’s rated highly enough. People insult it for relying on shonen tropes, but it is a shonen to the core... of course it does. Even beyond that, this show is a refinement of all shonen that has come before - it uses all of the best things we expect from a shonen while subverting other expectations when those things didn’t work. For one, filler has been slimmed down to nearly nothing (no flashback episodes) and the anime has moved at a blistering pace compared to some other classic shonen. The tournament arc has been done to death in shonen at this point, but MHA broke the mold by using it to tell narratives about side characters (Todoroki mainly) and doesn’t end in the generic way we’ve come to expect. This fight has the generic “world onlooking and cheering” moment, but as MB pointed out it is different in MHA because it’s a cry of desperation more than of support/prayer/confidence we’ve come to expect. It’s similar to other shonen, but different in all of the best ways.

Some people think that cliche is always bad, but that's not necessarily true. It creates a sense of familiarity, then the author feels confident about including stuff because he knows that the public will "get it", so to speak. To create something completely "new" is always risky, after all. However, cliche's bad fame arises from the abuse of its use, which makes that scene once familiar seems lazy and repetitive. Hence it's important to put new ideas and reword that boring cliche, let it more interesting. That's what MHA does and does great. It's no surprise to me it's popular; people can recognize the show as a shonen because of the cliches, but they're so well used that it isnt, you know... Black Clover. Or, (this comment in a nutshell) I agree with you.

It makes me somewhat sad One Piece doesn't have this. While Wano is an improvement on what came before it's still bogged down with awkwardly drawn out scene's and repetition. In fact Wano has had some of the worst instances of this in the whole series. They use a lot more Sakuga than before but they pay for that with some really cringy and unwatchably awkward filler scene's. The budget of One Piece and MHA is about the same but MHA is seasonal and usually less than annual. So they can invest the same amount of money into 1 episode as OP has to put into 2,5.

I think MHA is a breath of fresh air in terms of shonen anime, because it is unabashedly shonen and wears its heart on its sleeve. It makes me think of Parks and Rec or Community, mainly because of how it's evolving the genre. Back before seinfeld, sitcoms were goofy moral of the week shows that essentially told everyone that you can solve most of your problems with good friends and family. Then we got Seinfeld, which was famously about not solving problems, and they even had a rule in the writers' room for Seinfeld that said "no hugs, no problems being solved." It was a kind of ironic detachment meant to deconstruct the sitcom as a genre, to make us think "Wait, why is so much value assigned to X, Y, and Z in these shows?" And then The Office, Community, and Parks and Rec came out. They were sitcoms that were kind of an answer to Seinfeld's cynicism, and the answer they arrived at was "These things are important because we choose to give them value, and it's okay to think that friends helping you solve problems is a good thing." The characters in these sitcoms chose to value friendship and the relationships with the people around them, and that is what helped them get through each day. To tie it all back in, MHA is a show kind of returning to those shonen roots of never giving up, trying your hardest, and the good guy winning, but it does it with the knowledge of things like one punch man already having been considered. In some ways All Might is an answer to Saitama. Saitama gets really bored and only incidentally solves problems, and is almost never shown as being heroic in terms of contests of strength, but All Might is about as supreme as Saitama when it comes to fighting. Nobody can really touch him outside of a guy with the most bullshit quirk you could think of, even when he's running around with a hole in his stomach and half his organs missing. The difference between the two? Saitama is being a hero for selfish reasons, because he's bored, but if he wanted to he could 100% choose to be a symbol of peace, to go public and announce that he would protect the world and kill any monsters that want to get some, but instead chooses not to. All might made that decision, and in doing so he decided to value the relationships with the people he knows and even the ones he doesn't know. He chose to value friendship and to place the burden of the entire world on his shoulders. He is an answer to the cynicism of shonen shows like OPM, JoJo's, and even DBS, all of which have main characters that generally do things for selfish reasons, be it vengeance, boredom, or, in goku's case, just being a fucking idiot and causing problems because he's an idiot. tl;dr if you wanna know why MHA is so good, take a look at some of the criticisms of postmodernism and how art is evolving beyond it. It's not bad because it uses a bunch of tropes and the good guys win. It's good because of those things.

Fuck yeah. I consider the trend of Reconstructions following all the deconstructor fleets of recent times to be a very positive one. I feel like this is... somewhat disingenuous to Saitama as a character. Yes, Saitama selfishly seeks out a challenge as his first motivation, but he VERY clearly has no intention of letting innocent people be killed, either - did you see how legitimately upset he seemed before killing the Sea King, for example, sparing no time whatsoever for playtime or challenges, or how legitimately somber he seemed when he realized that all the destruction he let Boros amass didn’t bring him the satisfaction he saught? Saitama IS absolutely a hero, he just doesn’t need to religiously dedicate every inch of his screentime to it - this is a point he explicitly addressed when a bunch of degenerate heroes were picking on him partway into Season 1. I get the comparison you were attempting to draw, but there’s no need to dunk on another series to make that comparison.

Only one thing I disagree with is the Bakugo getting away on his own part, because its Bakugo. Someone who rather than think about how to get away safely would use all his brains to think of the best way to *fight* his way out of the problem. And seeing Kirishima, someone who he knows is exactly the same, who rather face his issues head on crushing them with pure strength rather than trying to work around them smartly, offering his hand in escape, not only opens up that route to Bakugo, it *forces* him to look at something he was not focused on at the time. The possibility of escape without having to beat all the bad guys to a pulp.

In most cases yes that would be Bakugo's thoughts. But he knows that he is at a disadvantage number wise and he realizes that him being there is a hindrance on All Might. We all know our eyes were in tears.... When All Might vs All For One
@sanfransiscon
@sanfransiscon 5 жыл бұрын
All For One uses his amassed quirks in a very straightforward, simple way. While he does have a few tricks like using Gran Torino as a meat shield or evacuating the other villains, AFO's style is to just nuke whatever is in front of him. He doesn't bother mastering any of the quirks he gets,and at first I thought this implied that he loses a stolen quirk after using it. Shigaraki uses video game terminology, so let's use it here: AFO stacks buffs onto himself and then spams whatever does the most damage. I have a feeling that later in the series, Shigaraki will have AFO's incredible power but put it to use in strategy, meaning Deku will have to use his own analytical prowess and strategy to counter it.

I think there is a reason why he uses them in a straightforward way. And it is just that, simplicity. I get the feeling a good chunk of his stolen quirks are very basic in terms of power and function, but sense they are so straightforward, he can stack them and make use of them simultaneously with minimal draw back. Many quirks have logical drawbacks, especially if there power is complex, so he possibly avoids taking those sense it would require potential work around to be used optimally with all the other quirks.

To be fair, I highly doubt Bakugou was sure he was going to escape on his own. He was pinned down. Deku & Co made a bit of a show, gaining everyones attention and Kirishima was needed to give Bakugou not only the incentive to follow, but the trust to succesfully execute the escape. He's so hotheaded but in that part of the fight he was insanely careful, since any error would mean that All Might was going to be screwed. So he really needed a plan that he'd be sure would work, and with all the rubble around i doubt he was able to find a good escape route between all the attacks he had to dodge. But, amazing video, absolutely cannot have enough of that fight and you analyzed it amazingly. Good job!

Honestly though, the saddest part of this whole thing is All For One actually won the fight. He achieved at least part of his goal by completely decommissioning All Might. He's only locked up in prison, so I'm sure he'll easily be able to break out when the moment is right and all of his pieces are already in place to keep his plan going even without him. Now All Might is in a very vulnerable position and couldn't fight back if he needed to, plus his title and position has been stripped from him. All For One is probably the most brilliant and malicious villain I have ever seen, a villain to fear for sure.

So, after looking back through the manga, the good guys believe that at some point All For One stole a longevity quirk that basically gives him eternal youth (explaining why he's lived so long without ill effects). Given that All Might also BELIEVED that he KILLLED All For One, we can thus assume that All For One 's quirk list includes a way to survive lethal blows (though this Quirk may have been lost, as All For One does mention that it would take him a while to actually amass enough Quirks to be competitive again). So if he most likely has a Quirk(s) that gives him long life, eternal youth, and durability/regeneration enough to overcome DEATH, doesn't that mean he is essentially *IMMORTAL* . I'm not sure if he's still Immortal, as I said before that the Quirks he had amassed were lost at some point, likely as a consequence of being killed by All Might and "using up" the Quirk(s), in the same way that All Might eventually "used up" the power of One For All.

My only complaint with this battle sequence is that Momo ended up not really doing anything. It was so cool to see a plan that incorporated the powers of all four of the boys (yes I am counting Kirishima's friendship as a power) but it made me wonder why she was there in a narrative sense. I get that she was playing the part of trying to keep everyone from breaking the law but Iida was also doing that, and with a most established character reason to. Hopefully this ties into her larger character arc, but after her development in the practical exam arc I would have hoped she would have been able to do something to contribute to the fight, even in a more symbolic or emotional way.

It's not the first time someone has been included in a plan without being vital for it's success. When Deku and Co were trying to intercept Mr Compress before he escaped with Tokoyami and Bakugo, They needed Uraraka's Zero Gravity to levitate them, Tsu's slingshot tongue to launch them, and Shoji's great bat-like arms to steer them through the air - but Todoroki, despite being the most objectively powerful person there at the time, was just along for the ride.

One thing I'd like to add to this, AllMight didn't continue fighting just because the world was cheering for him, he did because *one* civilian begged for his help. He can't hear the crowd. He can't see how he's being broadcasted. Just one civilian being in danger was enough to get him going again. That's why he's the symbol of peace.

Great breakdown. Honestly one of the best parts of this was that desperation scene of the country if not the world crying out for All Might to win. They do capture that different feeling from the norm. The world is so desperate and need him to win. Not simply wanting him to win because they like the guy. And yet it perfectly fits. For Deku and Bakugo especially they want him to win for so many reasons and don't want to see their ideal and hero fall. And yet in a lot of ways it works because All Might willingly established himself as that pillar. He knew society was weak and needed it. And so long as he possibly can he'll rise up to meet their desperate hopes. But it still brings a great smile to see the other pros arriving to help. They can't match this guy and they know that. But they have been so inspired by All Might's life and career that they want to help him in any small way they can. And that does mean something at the end of the day. It helps just a bit and that's enough. Fully agree that anyone saying this fight was lazy or mindless is just wrong. So much thought and effort was put into the story for this fight and presenting it to the viewers. It's a really good fight.

Even if people say it was poor on choreography or anything like that, I have to remind you that Gon vs Pitou fight was easily the poorest in quantity, yet one of the best in quality. Watching a good fight in TV doesnt mean how flashy a punch and movements are, but the stakes, the emotions, the strategies, the psychology, etc. If it was just "flashy", then one piece or fairy tail or stuff like that would have the best fights :P
