I hit up the Bass Pro Shops spring sale for a few new items! Some of these things I had never heard of!? I'm excited to try out some new baits and test a baitcaster that a lot of folks wanted to see. Some lures I purchased will have me reminiscing about the past.

The best thing about Bass Pro is you can return things to the local store in your area. This also is true for Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart sells affordable rods, reels, and lots of good stuff. Bass Pro reels are good solid reels I only have one a Jonny Morris signature model. I do have a bunch of Bas Pro Crakin’Sticks, I like them because they have Power-Hump Grips and the blank collapse into the handle making them easier to store. I used Sammy style lures a long time, mine are Japanese baits but did not sell so they put them in the bargain bin at Dick’s. I got them for $3-bucks a pop and bought bunch. They catch fish as good as Rebel-Pop-R’s do and that means something. When a big bass takes one it looks like someone flushed the toilet. I think the plop when it hits the water makes bass come running. The bad thing is Mr. Pike loves them too and so does Mr. Musky use wire or say by-by to your lures. Lizards are great and just catch fish. I have used the ones you bought but are prone to the Zoom flavors. The bladed jigs are interesting but those big black blades look like the flapper in my toilet. Good luck I hope they catch you a whopper. If those big fat worms don’t catch fish, I will eat my hat. I caught a 32-inch hybrid striper on that exact shad color worm a couple years ago. I was fishing for Bass of the green kind but that monster didn’t know to leave it alone. I am not an umbrella carrying kind of guy, and draw the line at something that crazy looking on my fishing rod. My top suggestion for your spring Bassin is buy a couple of Bill Lewis’s (Stutter-Step 4.0). They look like Sammy’s fat girlfriend in stretch pants walking the walk down the street. Check them out on You-Tube. (You’ll Like It)

I just go the bass pro pro qualifier 2 limited edition. I love it super smooth. Good casting distance. I paired it up with 15 pound fluorocarbon for crankbaits and jerkbaits.

The PQ reels are great, I have several of the 1st gen, little weighty but bullet proof. I picked up a couple more of the 2s to put on empty rods that I had laying around. I gave the old ones to my GF, never used a baitcaster before and in 10mins, she was casting like a champ.

I love my Pro Qualifier Reels. They have held up really well, and keep pace with my Curados in most measurable ways. I recently bought the reel you did because of the $49 price and a normal PQ2 in a lower gear ratio for cranking. As far as replacing the snaps, I have never had problems with the duonlock snaps straightening out... even when catching 30” redfish.

Good stuff debo! The flash mob jr even works great in ponds especially in the spring time. You gota try it. Also a good tip would be changing the snaps out for owner hyper wire split rings. Alot better quality and a cleaner appearance instead of bulky snaps

I got one of the qualifier reels too but I couldn't get any distance out of it for the life of me. I took it back and got one of the bionic reels on sale for 54$ an that sucker throws a mile great quality reel aswell. Maybe you'll have better luck. Also we throw the Alabama rig here in the south this time of year religiously, put one of your 2 hooks on the center wire with no blade. It swims behind the rest they usually hit it the most. And the quick clips that come on the A-rig are fine, they're alot stronger than people think. I've been throwing the same rig all winter for the most part an have caught over a 100 on it easy. they hold up to these big spotted bass, tight lines!

You have to turn off most of the braking system off to get anywhere on those things because of the dual braking system! I only use one friction break and the magnetic breaks all the way down.

Regarding the pro qualifier. That was my 1st bait caster reel I started off with. It's an OK reel for Beginners mainly because of the price. After about a year of use the line guide worm thing AMA jigger went out. Had it replaced. Now i have a Tutula Wouldn't go back

No matter what time I get to a good tackle shop, I tend not to leave until closing. LOL! One reason I generally try to shop online. Welcome to the dark side! honestly I only throw medium sized Rapalas (nothing wrong with that) but I love the big baits now. Just picked up a few Savage Gear lures that run 75g-85g (that's about 2 1/2 oz to 3 oz your side of the pond) so much fun. in fact the "Super spook" at 3.30 looked pure bad Pike medicine :-) Re the reel review, wait till you've had it on the water gets my vote, that way we get to see you talk to some feeeeesh ha ha.

The Yumbrella jr definitely need to replace the keepers. The swivels are good but the keepers will bend out. VMC KVD is what I like. Would work for the terminator as well.

Just a little tidbit of information, the BPS reels are now are made by the same people who make Lew's reels. If you like the feel of your lews reels the BPS reels including the PQ2 should be no stranger to you. As for the internals, I can't comment much on the PQ2 as I haven't looked into it much. However, look across the BPS line, you will notice some of the reels are slated as "New for 2019", which I believe is a change in manufacturing or the fact they are using a new footprint (aka Frame) as the Lew's reels. What I found is you can find comparable features between both reels.... just , I believe they word some of those features differently. These are just my observations. In anycase, nice haul of gear, and look forward to your review. I too was eyeing up that reel.

Thanks man, I figured they were. I personally don't care where a reel is made, as long as it's quality. They may be made in the same factory but each company has different standards/specifications when it comes to quality. Guess I'll have to get it out and test it. I've been eyeballing that shudder bait thing lately I'm just not %100 confident in that plastic blade that's what's kept me from pulling the trigger. So yeah I'd definitely like to see you compare that thing to a chatterbait !

Otto Defoe uses them so I can't see any reason to worry about that part of it. Maybe like Debo said change out the connection clip.

Hey question maybe a dumb one but what do you fish those huge stick o worms with? a wacky hook if so what size I got some stick o worms as well just don’t know what to throw them on.

You could wacky rig it. I'm going to Texas rig it with a 6/0 hook. Wacky probably a 4/0? I'd be throwing it on a baitcaster so I'd want it on a tad heavier setup with a hook that could hold up to that.

You should! I watched an underwater video comparing most of the more popular stick baits, and found that I, personally (and many others agreed), that the Bass Pro "Stick-O's" I think they're called actually fell a bit slower and with about the same action as the senko, but more durable and cheaper. Stocked-up on some right away to use for most daily use and certain situations, and will prob keep a few packs of senkos around for tournaments and other situations. Just my two cents! But def worth trying, imho... :)

@@MaxOstrov1 I use the stick-o a lot. Just never seen the 7" the little 3" split tail has become one of my favorites. Ned rig, shaky head, even on the dropshot. Probably pick up the 7" this weekend

I had a gold and silver pro qualifier reel back in high school i bought every rod and reel combo bass pro had to offer me. Being new to baitcasters i wanted to find the best quality to price, obviously i returned them after using them once or twice on the lake haha. Decided to pick up the pro qualifier and a graphite rod and fell in love a year later my truck gets rear ended and there went my reel so i bought a abu garcia revo s and disliked the way it felt and just not being able to cast as far as my pro qualifier i took it back and bought a daiwa zillion sv off of tackle warehouse and 2 years later im still using my daiwa zillion

i love poppers, but can't seem to catch much with them. tips would be awesome! would you also think loop knot will make it walk/swing too with some left and right twitches? or is that movement not necessary?

Poppers are great when it's a little more calm. I try to focus specific spots because you can fish it so slow (vs covering a ton of water like with a plopper). I don't walk a popper most of the time unless I'm covering water. It's a slower approach and I focus on that big chug/spit. I'll definitely do a vid on one this spring man! Appreciate you watching and helping with trout questions! I want to do more of that this year.

I picked up a BPS pro qualifier 2 limited edition for $50 last week...same one you have. Noticed some binding when turning, or spinning, the reel handle. Followed the included lube instructions for initial setup that are in the box. Problem solved. Another online reviewer had the same problem and obviously didn't do this because he just slammed it. Looking forward to getting out with this reel tomorrow. For now it looks to be every bit worth the price.

@@DEBOSFishing I can tell you now, after spooling with braid, and taking it out yesterday, this is the most comfortable palming reel, best and longest casting reel I have ever used. No extra fiddling to dial in different baits and no, as in 0, backlashes. Makes me want to toss my others and get 4 more of these. Seriously! I want to sleep with this thing 🙌

I heard BPS reels are made by Plueger. I have an ancient spinning model that still works perfectly.

No, bu they could be made in the same factory. Pfluger is owned my pure fishing (they always own a number of other companies including Abu Garcia). Their service HQ used to be in spirit lake here in Iowa. I believe their major HQ is now in SC. I'm digging the reel for $49

I am really intrigued to see what you think of that BPS reel. I thought about checking out some of there reels myself this year. I have bought 5 new rods and reels so far this year and not one is BPS. Semi-adventurous, I guess. Lol You said you are planning on changing the snap locks on your A-rig and the Terminator vibrating jig. Have you ever used Spro snap-lock swivels yet? If you haven't, you may want to consider them? They aren't cheap but they are worth every penny. I begrudgingly paid 6.00 bucks for 3 of them at Big R last year; now they are my go-to snap swivels. All I can say is they are beastly! Hey why not try that bass pro stick o 7 1/8 cut in half and use it on that shudder bait. I’ve seen guys use the senko switch finesse jigs. Maybe try it ?
